Woohoo! New Rumiko Takahashi manga: Kyokai no Rinne. Interestingly, Viz is attempting to translate the series simultaneously with the Japanese releases, and is posting the translated manga online. Seems like a good way to beat scanlators at their own game, if they can keep this up.

Kyokai no Rinne can be read here:

Not sure how to judge the new series yet. I liked the first chapter, but I can't tell if this is going to be more comedy-oriented or action-oriented.

Forgot to post my work schedule earlier. Oh well. Not much point now, really, since tonight is the only evening shift I have. All the rest of the week I only have morning shifts, so basically I'm free all week starting tomorrow.

work schedule

I said I'd post my work schedule in livejournal so my friends would know when I'm available, and I finally got around to it:

Today: 5 - 9:30
Sat. 8th - OFF
Sun. 9th - OFF
Mon. 10th - 5 - 9:30
Tue. 11th - 5 - 9:30
Wed. 12th - 9 - 1
Thu. 13th - OFF
Fri. 14th - 5 - 9:30
Sat. 15th - 5 - 9:30

Kind of an odd schedule next week. Almost entirely closing shifts and not very many hours. Nice to have this weekend off, though. My work schedule for the coming week is usually posted on Wednesdays, so I hope to update regularly on that day.

Hey guys. Long time, no post.

I have an interview for a job at the Clay Center on Tuesday. Wish me luck. (For non-West Virginians, the Clay Center is part museum and part arts and sciences center. It's a fairly new institution down in Charleston.)

Man, I really want a Nintendo DS. I just won't allow myself to buy one until I have a job, though.

We got lots of snow last night. It's a little more than ankle-deep. That probably doesn't sound like much to anyone who lives north of here, but that's quite a lot for here in West Virginia.

I'm tempted to go out and make some sort of snow sculpture, but then I say to myself "If you're going to do something creative, you really ought to be painting." And that is quite true, so I'll probably just paint today.

Finally, my Oyuki userpics are season appropriate.

Graduation

Yesterday I received my diploma from Marshall. I am now officially a college graduate. I apparently received the honor of Magna Cum Laude, which surprised me a little.

My current goal is to just focus on improving my art. In a few months or whenever I feel that I've made enough progress, I'll start looking for a job so I can support myself while trying to make and sell my artwork.

Well, I lost the most recent Rumic World quiz. Looks like I'm not the ultimate fanboy I thought I was. However, I did get all the answers right, but someone else just submitted their answers sooner than I did.

Speaking of Rumiko Takahashi...
I just got the Mermaid Forest boxed set in the mail. I absolutely loved the manga, and the anime is pretty good too. Don't let the title fool you. This isn't The Little Mermaid. You see, Mermaid Forest is a dark and violent story. In this series, eating the flesh of a mermaid can grant you immortality, but most of the time it either kills you or turns you into a horrible immortal monster. The story follows a 500-year-old immortal, Yuta, and his teenaged-but-also-immortal companion, Mana, as they search for a mermaid who can make them mortal again. Along the way, they encounter others who have also used the mermaid's flesh, but ended up with far worse fates.

It's only 13 episodes, but they're all pretty good. My only real complaint about the anime is that they watered down the blood and violence a lot. The exception is the DVD-exclusive story Mermaid's Scar which stays faithful to the manga, and is thus much more violent than the other episodes. One of the best things about the anime is that it's in widescreen - I don't know why they made a TV series in widescreen, and I don't really care either. I'm not going to question it because widescreen is awesome.

Overall, this is one of the more faithful anime adaptations of Rumiko Takahashi's work. I would say only the Maison Ikkoku anime is more faithful.

Ha, yeah. No one really wants to listen to me review an anime I like.

I'm beginning to wonder if one of my roommates is a vampire. I got up at 6am this morning like usual, and I heard him in the next room talking and playing video games with his friends. Seriously, did he just never go to bed at all last night? This isn't the first time either. And I don't get the impression that he sleeps during the day, so... when does he sleep?

My friends and I are going to the Mothman Convention in Point Pleasant today. I'll be back later, possibly with pictures.

Although costellofolds didn't tag me for this, I felt like doing it anyway.

Go to http://www.quotationspage.com/ and look through the random quotations until you find five that you think reflect who you are or what you believe. Repost them in your journal (with this information) and tag five friends to complete this meme.

Not gonna tag anyone. Feel free to do this if you want to or not.
