In today's world, you rarely run into a college student that does not currently have a facebook account. Facebook makes keeping in touch easy among a community, other schools or regions. The style of writing in a facebook entry is very informal and personalized by the individual. The facebook revolution has a number of positive aspects; however, it has specific negative aspects as well. With facebook messages and wallposts there are not any rules. A person can spell out all their words or use shortcuts, anything goes in the facebook community. Wall posts are public; however, if there is something personal that needs to be shared facebook also has a message feature in which the message is only available to the person who sends it and the person who receives it.
Facebook most definitely makes keeping in touch with family members and friends much easier, but it also has the potential to make our generation less personal with each other. Birthday reminders appear on the home page of each persons facebook profile, therefore, when a birthday of a facebook friend arrives, nowadays all people do is post a simple "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" on their wall. Verbal communication is becoming less and less evident in today's culture. People are growing to prefer text messaging, IMing, and now Facebooking over a phone call or a personal meeting.
With facebook, there are nopreset rules on how to write, and messages are rarely carefully viewed over for grammer mistakes. All facebook is is communication between friends, and friends hardly ever care about sentence structure and grammatical accuracy.
