Saudi rape VICTIM sentenced to 200 lashes 'admits to affair'.

Oh, she had an affair? Well, then, she certainly deserved what she got! And I'm sure there was no untoward methods of "persuasion" used to get her to "confess" her adultery. 200 lashes and 6 months behind bars is too easy for that tart! Personally, I'm amazed they didn't just drag her out into the middle of the street and stone her.

I used to wonder why the women don't rise up and beat their men to death with frying pans; you'd think they'd get sick of being treated with less respect than a cow. But eventually I realized that we're talking about generation upon generation of women who have been raised to believe that they don't have the same human rights as men, that they are less than men, that the very tenets of their faith decree that men have every right to treat them like shit and get away with it. So, after centuries of brainwashing, why would they ever fight back? Shame, really. If anyone really deserves a frying pan upside the head...

And if the US Gov't was serious about their disapproval of what has happened, they'd do a lot more than finger wagging and 'tsk tsk'-ing. They'd boycott...ah, but wait! Thats where the oil comes from...never mind.

Gads, when did I become such a rabble rouser? (tosses soapbox) Done grumping. Its not like my bitching about it is going to change anything anyway...

Hurry up December 7th!

I'm currently listening to the audio book of The Golden Compass during my commute, and I'm loving the story so far. I'd seen the previews for the movie (OUT DECEMBER 7th!!) when we went to go see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and remembered that I'd bought the series for my niece a couple of years ago for Christmas, but never had the chance to read them. Well, after seeing the movie preview, I borrowed a friend of mine's audiobook copy of the first book and I can only say that its a thoroughly entertaining, intriguing and engaging book. The world the author has created is thoroghly unique. The previews I've scoped out (and I've looked up as many as I could find!) are dazzling, along the scale of Lord of the Rings - and I can only hope that the movie is every bit as good as the previews make it appear to be, and not a massive let down the way Eragon was.

Shut up, brain, so I can sleep

So I'm nearly into my second week of not smoking, and, as I'm laying in bed trying to go to sleep, my brain decides it needs to unload all the mental garbage it can at me and keep me awake. I did, finally, go to sleep, after suffering through snatches of goofy songs (crevette is to blame for the Benny Lava song), bits of books and conversations, my mind finally settles on one thing: what if the medication I'm taking to keep me from wanting to smoke is addictive?

Would that be ironic, or what? Yes, I gave up smoking, but now I'm addicted to these pills. (snortle) We'll see in another month or so if THAT is the case, heh. Interestingly enough, one of the side affects of the medication is some pretty vivid and strange dreams. I've actually been enjoying that. The other side affect is gas - not so much fun. Heh.

My kids are driving me crazy. Now that we're hurtling towards the end of the year, its dark by the time we get home from work/daycare, and consequently, my youngest is a rabid ball of energy. It doesn't help that his older brother is hyperactive, and has no sense. I'm two seconds away from grabbing the duct tape and taping them together.

William Shakespeare

Fear no more the heat o'the khylarenelf
Nor the furious winter's rages.

Which work of Shakespeare was the original quote from?

Is it Friday yet? Is the year over yet? I'm tired of 2007, and I'm ready for some snow, or something besides the rain and winds that are typical of November here. November always sucks here. Its cold, wet, windy, rainy, gray, and miserable just about most of the month, with occasional "sun-breaks" (ha) in between the drearyness. Granted, I realize this is the price I must pay to live in such a pretty, green state, but sometimes it just gets to me and I feel like I gotta move to the Mojave. Then I remember how easily I sunburn...

On a happy note: my other half sent me flowers today for no reason at all. :)

Rant ahoy

Grrrrr.....

Not to offend my friends who are Christian....but I'm so fricking sick of the attitude of some Americans who happen to share that faith. They are one of the main reasons I gave up on Christianity: I refused to share a faith with lunatics. Sorry. Just. Can't. I cannot follow something blindly and I cannot take part in an "I'm right and you're wrong" belief system. There are literally hundreds of faiths out there that all share a common belief in a creator/deity, or whatever you want to name them. Can you stand there and tell me that YOUR god is the only right one? That takes serious ego.

My mother-in-law, intending well, I'm sure, forwarded me an email regarding the Muslim EID stamp, with the accompanying rant by the email's author (Not my mom-in-law) about how evil and bad, etc. the Muslims are, yadda yadda, and how outraged they were about the USPS putting out a stamp celebrating the Islamic holidays, etc.

Kitty wake up call

Anyone who has ever owned or lived with a cat can relate...especially the bit where kitty pats the guy's face.

Pondering thoughts of writing again...just not sure yet what I want to be writing.

Where the heck have I been?

Busy, yes, mostly, but also just not in the mood to do any journaling at all. I spent a little time this evening trying to kind of catch up on everyones doings. Not easy! Y'all have been busy! :)

Firstly, thank you sian265 and larianelensar for the lovely birthday gifties on my homepage! And thank you everyone else for wishing me a happy day. And it was a good one, despite the fact that I'm currently battling a cold. Celebrated Samhain with my group, opened presents, ate cake, lit candles and honored my ancestors all in one night. It was pretty great. B took the boyos a-begging for candy at the mall in their scarey scarey costumes, so they had fun as well. My youngest surprised me with his choice of costumes this year. Typically, he has gone with the Ninja or Superhero (a la Spiderman) theme. This year, he went for scarey green-skulled grim reaper guy with staff of swirling-led-lights of DOOM! He was mighty frightening...hehe...

Today marks the 3rd complete day without any form of tobacco. And I haven't killed anyone (or wanted to, for that matter!) My doctor has me on this medication called Chantix and I have to admit, the stuff actually works (as the lack of dead bodies or cigarrettes can attest to). I have a few more weeks to take the stuff, and then hopefully, I should be clean of nicotine! :) Wish me luck! I already feel better for it.
