It’s 00:05 Friday morning; it’s hot, but it’s not the sort of heat that the suntanned idiots of Guildford love to worship like a deity. No it’s a horrible muggy heat, like a British mediocre version of a rain forest climate, not so hot that it’s unbearable, but annoying enough to distract me.
Below me, someone I know is having yet another mediocre conversation about mediocre musical subjects. This would be tolerable, but the sheer volume in which this guy ‘talks’ is unbearable. Imagine having a conversation with someone over the din of a doom-rock band, you’d pretty much have to shout at each other; now imagine removing that band and maintaining the conversation at the same volume, this is what is transpiring below me.

It actually pains me to write these words, Robert Anton Wilson is someone who has had the most profound effect on my life.
Whilst I was at work at EDF 'Energy' in Guildford I used to be able to listen to my Discman, I used to listen to music lots. Eventually I realised that music I listened to at work could not be appreciated properly anywhere else so I began to download spoken word books to listen to instead. Eventually whilst I was going through authors I admired I remembered Robert Anton Wilson, so i scoured the net and eventually turned up the "RAW explains everything" lectures. Listening to these lectures, over and over again I suddenly realised that what I was doing with my life kind of sucked, I hated my own mind!!
As this was going on my Step Father was dying of cancer and I was also questioning life in general. A week before he died Des (Step Father) said to me (and I am paraphrasing) "I hated my job, if i could have done something differently I would have". So this combination of my step father dying and the pure identification with RAW's work resonated within me and I felt that I had to study something.
As if by Magick I remembered my father knew a Professor at Surrey University and that he had done some pretty exciting research involving a fringe group and I wanted to do that as well. So applying a winner script, optimistic outlooks and general 'Slack' I managed to get myself onto MSc Criminology... and I have never looked back
Thankyou Robert Anton Wilson for continuing to expand my mind after your death, and for showing me a 'maybe' light in the 'yes/no' world madness...
Hail Eris
'God' Bless Robert Anton Wilson ... I love you man! x
Ages since i posted, myspace makes a man lazy when it comes to journals
So i am nearing the end of my Criminology MSc, and hopefully entering my Philosphy BA. I know this sounds a bit arse around face, but hey thats the way my life seems to go, figuritvley speaking anyhow.
I have been reading/listening to a lot of Robert Anton Wilson again at the moment, in all the madness of the world RAW makes the world a little easier to understand, the guy really is a genius in my humble opinion.
So why philosphy...why not, i enjoyed the little philosophy we were taught during the MSc and wish to build on it and hopefully expand it out into a mixed discipline PHd down the line.
Michel Foucault, now there is a man that inspires fear in me, I don't really know why to be honest, perhaps its just that he seems to make a lot of sense, but in a way that you dont want him to.
anyway, im also leaning towards Thelema as one of my other paths of study, so i'll keep you posted as there seems to be a fair few thelamites on LJ!
