2025 has been... one of the years of all time. I've been meaning to write and post a small-ish year in review that catalogues what I've done on the writing side of things, but I kept putting it off because I just didn't want to do it. Now it's Saturday and I've got nothing better to do, so here it is.

Arc of the Suns

The largest change I've done here was change the name as outlined in my prior blogposts. Overall, I wrote on this project for about the first five months of the year. In this time, I made a fair amount of progress as one does. Most of the first part has been outlined in short form and I still don't know how to feel about it. However, despite the short amount of time worked on it, I finished the first drafts of chapters 7 through 11 and took a stab at chapter 12. I even managed to put an older chapter up on Fimfiction, AO3, and FFN, but I sort of regret it now LOL. Now I'm going to hold off until part 1 is done in its entirety which will take time.

Formation of Team Fireheart

What is this? Well, it's my incredibly old and dusty Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fic. My first fic, in fact. A more fun fact is that it's the first fic I took down because I wasn't happy with it! Oops! Last June, I got bit by the "work on this project now" bug and haven't recovered. As for chapter work, I deleted the first one in its entirety because I didn't need it. It felt a little too... close to the start of the games I guess. The real, actual, first chapter is done and up. Chapters two and three are in the first draft phase and I've been meaning to get around to edit them, but that's hard! Life throws in wrenches or my brain decides to continue through the fic. I'm on chapter four now.

Three Sentence Ficathon

I've done a bit of shenanigans around writing and posting three sentences based on fandom, pairing, and situation prompts. The good part about this is that I can still; carry over the 2025 prompts into 2026 assuming that I can remember where I found them haha. The fandom breakdown is below:
Fandom# Works
Doctor Who2
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic1
Original Works2
Pokemon1
RWBY1

This challenge was a fun one, and it's nice that I can continue to fill old prompts. There's a ton of them! It's fun! Try it out if you like weird little challenges.

The Things I Enjoyed on the Non-Writing Side of Things

Gaming

  • Factorio. Dear god, Factorio. Not just Factorio, but one of the longest modpacks in Factorio. I swear I woke up one day and my brain chose violence. Anyway, I put in about uh... 500 hours over the year in it which is insane. That's 500+ hours not spent writing! That's why my productivity went through the floor. Even now I'm still thinking about it as I do with my writings.
  • American Truck Simulator is fun if you like big trucks and landscapes just as big.
  • Trimps? Fun if you like slow incremental games.

TV

  • The Diplomat (Netflix) was fun in the short amount of time I binged it.
  • Did I watch Succession (HBO Max) in 2025? I'm putting it here anyway. It was fun, but it's hard to relate to any of the main characters.

Music

2025 was dominated by cartoon horse artist compilation albums and strangely, video game soundtracks. The Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and Sonic Mania OSTs hooked into my mind and bubbled towards the top of the charts. Albums with large track lists in general just kinda... did that, which is a downside for these kinds of lists. If I take them off, I get the below list (Album - Artist). Thanks Last FM:
  1. Time Is the Playground - Carbon Leaf
  2. Days of the Fallen Sun - Junius
  3. The Pink Side of the Moon (Remastered) - 4everfreebrony
  4. Secret Messages - Electric Light Orchestra
  5. Eternal Rituals for the Accretion of Light - Junius

Top 5 soundtracks for the year:
  1. Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire
  2. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX
  3. Pokemon Black 2 / White 2
  4. Sonic Mania
  5. Bomberman Hero
Honorable mentions are Homestuck (vols 1-4), and DM DOKURO's rendition of the Cave Story soundtrack

Looking Ahead to 2026

I've signed up for the 180 day pledge for get your words out, so hopefully I'll write 180 days. As for projects, I hope to make good progress on the MLP and PMD ones, buuuuuuut another project is rattling around in my head. Really hoping I can properly balance these lol. It's hard, but I'm hoping it'll distract from the horrors.

May 2026 treat you well <3

Okay, hopefully every month from now on I'll post something about my progress through any fic I touch for the specified month. No promises though. It's hard to build up a habit after all.

Arc of the Suns (previously The Fluff Before the Storm)

Oh, that's right, I renamed it. Either way, not a lot was done here. The main issue is that chapter 11 was a big pain in the butt for me because of this whole "will they won't they" thing. Eventually I settled on "they won't because why would they?" and closed out the first extremely rough draft. I'm hoping I'll actually finish the darn thing during June and get a chapter up. Trying to do that while other wips are vying for my attention, however, is going to be a different story.

Formation of Team Fireheart

What's this? A new fic? No! This one is actually my oldest fanfic. When I was young, I started a playthrough of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness on a whim. It had me hooked immediately. I loved Pokemon as a kid, but the thought of actually being one in a world full of them? Looking back that was kinda lifechanging. It got me into fanfiction and I'm sure it played some role in me entertaining the idea of either joining the furry fandom or making a fursona. Regardless, I started to write fanfic in middle school or high school with pencil and paper and wrote up to what I'd like to call the second arc. At some point, I decided to make the transition to the digital space and it did not go well, but I put it up anyway. Years later, I decided that it didn't meet my standards so I pulled most of the chapters down and started to rewrite it. More recently with the addition of Scrivener into my workflow, I pulled the project in and started working on it. In the almost half year since I did that: I axed the first chapter in its entirety, I put up the second chapter (now first), and I almost finished the third chapter (now second).

My plans for this is to use the previously typed form as an outline of sorts. If I can find and decipher the written form, I could use that for everything past chapter 12 or so. I'm sure it still lives in a corner of my head, but I can't trust it.

Where to from here?

I'm hoping to work in the two wips semi-consistently. Ideally I'd alternate between them for each session but life finds a way of disrupting that. Currently my fixation is Minecraft, which doesn't historically bode well for everything else within my hobby space. Even so, the fact that I wrapped up at least one chapter draft is commendable.

Okay not entirely sure what these... update (?) posts are going to be for. I suppose this'll be for any general updates on stuff I've got on AO3 or are planning to post on AO3. Idk. So, let's dig in.

The Fluff Before The Storm

This is more or less a summary of what I put on my Fimfiction blog, but updated to match progress up to now.

Chapter 6

This is essentially done, but unposted. I'll probably post it when part one is done, maybe. Still haven't decided on how many finished chapters I'll have until I'm done posting them.

Chapter 7

First draft is done. Second draft hasn't been started as it's anxiety inducing.

Others

I did an initial outline on upcoming chapters A-F, lettered only because idk what their ordering is. Un-placed, but named, chapter A is being drafted up right now though, which is good. I have a much better idea as to where part 2 starts, and I have an idea how it could end, but it feels more like an epilouge. Blah.

Oh, and speaking of part 2 and beyond...

Part 2 and 3 thoughts

I've been haunted by some decisions past me made. These are usually birthed by me saying "oh cool let's do the thing", then doing the thing. Most of these things blend nicely in to the AU. Some of these things don't (mainly with regards to disability). I want to take these things that don't blend well and rework them. This will essentially be a retcon, but the only people would know that would be the people that read this post, or the people that roleplayed with me. Essentially, the written fic will become the written canon, which is... fun I guess. I'm just tired of feeling like core parts of OC's doesn't matter or they don't face consequences for actions they did or did not take. So... TFBTS will essentially become a fix-it fic for my own AU canon.

Titling thoughts

I've cooled quite a bit on the title of the fic, but it's also out on websites and it'd feel akward to change. Plus, I don't even know what to change it to. Pain.

Misc. Stories

I've done a few prompts for the three sentence ficathon. These will go up through the year on AO3 and other platforms as needed. I'm gonna fo more too >:3

I want to work on my main original works (The Watcher's Call and The Man and his Dragon) throughout the year too. I may, or may not, add a third with regards to a new critter I introduced in one of my prompt responses.

So, this is the first time I've ever really heard of this site, and the fanfiction subreddit discord brought me here. I... saw the get your word out challenge post by one of the discord members, read the description on the main site and went "oh yeah uh that's me". So I created an account and am now here. It's safe to say that my relationship with and history of writing is complicated.

It started in elementary school, where I wrote little stick figure comics. Those still exist somewhere and I remember having a good time. I was given access to use an old Windows 98 pc and I vaguely remember wanting to use it as a writing tool, but that didn't happen. It was merely used for Tetris, Jezzball, Asteroids, and that silly little Jimmy Neutron vs Jimmy Negatron game. I was then given an old Compaq Presario running windows ME. There too, was the vague want to write but nothing came of it. It wasn't connected to the internet so what was the point?

My "actual" writing started in high school on paper. It was an unfinished draft of my first pokemon fanfic and I wrote on my downtime and between classes. If people noticed, they didn't care. If the writing was bad, I either didn't notice or didn't care. It was fulfilling, especially when I put the paper in the little Dale Earnhardt (rip) tin I kept at my house where it presumably sits today. I kept writing it until I decided to transcribe it and post it on fanfiction.net, but that would only last until video games came along and tickled the brain.

Over the months and years, a pattern would emerge. I would focus on writings for a while and promise myself to do better, but some other interest in a game would crop up. I'd proceed to lose myself in it for months, if not years before feeling like playing games isn't productive. I'd then circle back to writing and the cycle repeats. Anyone can look at my postings on fanfiction, fimfiction, or ao3 and see that.

The cycle repeats to this day. I don't like it. I don't know what to do about it. I don't know if the get your word out challenge's habit forming pledge will fix this for good. I can only try.

Thanks for reading.
