mrtechlab asked:

You have so much movement in your poses, any tips on getting better at exaggerating that kind of stuff in your art? I’ve been trying but can’t get past “just stretched and messed up” into “stylized”

Please forgive me for replying to your message so late!
I also apologize if I say something strange, because I don’t know English very well.

I’ll try to answer briefly.

I don’t consider myself a master of stylization, but I can tell you what rules I follow when I draw.
I’m an animator, and my profession makes me think a lot about how to emphasize what I see. If you want to depict an action, you need to enhance it, because in reality, an action won’t look good in a drawing with a stylized character.
I want to say that it’s important to enhance the character’s action by changing the proportions and silhouette.

I highly recommend sketching real people. Sketches are quick drawings that you draw in seconds, trying to capture the essence of movement. They force you to make quick decisions. But when you’re depicting something, it’s important to think about what the character is doing and how they’re doing it
It’s okay if your sketches aren’t perfect or beautiful. What matters is that they capture the energy of the character doing something.

To convey the character’s energy, you need to see the directional lines of movement.
These are invisible lines that determine the character’s direction of movement. They also create a composition. These lines help the viewer understand your drawing in the correct order.

I also recommend that you learn about negative silhouette and positive silhouette (I’m not sure if I’m pronouncing these terms correctly, but they are mentioned in the 12 principles of animation).

These are my sketches. I go to sketch sessions where you draw people naked or dressed. Many of the drawings are done in 10 seconds to 3 minutes

I can also show you an overview of my sketches that I’ve made over the past 5 months. I make these sketches when I’m out and about. I made these sketches as an exercise in storyboards. I was trying to create quick compositions
