"character deserved better" (but they were never going to get it that's the stuff great tragedies are made of) vs "character deserved better" (but the writers really blew it)
spider man would have a tumblr i think
he made a tumblr account back when it was more normal for celebrities to be on tumblr and just never deleted it. nobody believes that it's the real actual spider man but it is. long time followers are like no no he's posted proof here are the receipts. occasionally he shows up on posts where he's mentioned to jumpscare people.
#i agree if we’re talking spider verse peter#a peter old enough to have read homestuck back in its heyday#that feels right to me
spider man occasionally jumpscares people on posts talking about him and also on posts about Homestuck
unraveling at the seams thinking about how graces reaction to remembering that he was drugged and forced onto the mission was to come to the conclusion that he was a coward. like on some level sure he was angry at stratt but he was far angrier with himself. he built up this story in his head that somewhere somehow along the way he developed the courage and bravery to choose to sacrifice himself for earths sake. he clung to this story when he didnt have anything else. and it wasnt real. not only was he a vicious coward but he threatened to sabotage a mission to save the entire world because his desire to live was so overpowering. there was nothing that couldve convinced him otherwise. not his kids, not the rest of humanity, nothing. and he tears himself APARTTTTT for this. if you want rocky to get this secret out of grace youre gonna need twelve hours, some elbow grease, and industrial grade lube thats how deep the shame lies. i think grace is incredibly angry about how it all went down and i also think that if you told him he didnt deserve it he'd probably bite your head off
#I KNOWWWWWW I KNOW. I KNOW#i keep fucking thinking about it I KEEP THINKING ABOUT IT!#when he loses his memory there's multiple times where he drags himself out of despair thinking about his kids#the best thing about amnesia tropes is they keep accidentally recreating the most gut wrenching depictions of a narc crash#how much they mean to him how much they are HIS kids. lets the dread of their future on earth settle in his gut to propel him forward#and when he remembers he prods at the memory until it bruises but there's nothing there. worse than that he cowered behind them as an excuse#it's stratt that has to beg him to remember them#“Not for earth or humanity or the children. For myself. Utter panic”#SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!#phm#ryland grace#meta#also you can skip a few hours of elbow grease with one simple trick (have him scream about sabotaging the ship during a nightmare)
genuinely I'm so sick of people wanting all fiction to be ethical. can we all just get a little gross with it. the point of fiction is that it's not real. we can be unethical in fiction; same goes with being perverted with fiction, being unrealistic with fiction, and being grotesque with fiction. not all fiction has to be ethical, not every character has to be ethical, and that's okay. can we stop with the puritanism. be gross. be unrealistic. be whatever. if I don't like it it's not my business as long as we're all clear that its fictional.
via ered.bsky.social, the only kinds of unethical fiction:
people in the replies are going "what about books glorifying unethical things" and "what if it's propaganda" and you, my friends, are who this comic was made for
