Hi! Welcome to my journal!
What's here?
A bit of everything. What started as a place for writing ideas and whatnot in 2003 turned into an actual journal without me noticing. These things happen. ^^;; You can call me Kalloway or Kalli Ashton. I've wandered through multiple careers; currently I'm a robot doctor.

Small Updates 4
Jun. 21st, 2026 07:19 amI may have to declare comment amnesty, but I am still here and reading as much as I can.
I'm heading back to work tonight because I need to get a bit of myself back, if nothing else.
( more stuff )
I am, otherwise, into Book 5 of Heaven Official's Blessing. Book 2 was okay, Book 3 was really bad, Book 4 was really good, and so far Book 5 has promise. I may make it through this time.

Small Updates
Jun. 8th, 2026 09:25 amI am surviving. Everything is kind of in hurry-up-and-wait mode. I am so tired of phone calls.
Currently I'm trying to make my old bedroom into a welcoming space. I don't think anyone has vacuumed or dusted in here since I moved out 14 years ago.
In my plans for the weekend that didn't happen, I was supposed to renew my DW account. At this point I don't even know where my card is for that. In my work bag? Which is? Hopefully at my place somewhere.
Anyway, could someone kindly float me a bit of DW paid time til I can find my own arse without a flashlight and map? Thank you. ;_; Truly.

Mecha Core Oberon [Final]
Jun. 1st, 2026 09:44 pmHere's Oberon, finished! I meant to post last night but DW said no-u.

Yes, his wing-span is basically my washer, and yes, those are quill-pen dragoons.

Nerd Show Yesterday
May. 31st, 2026 01:59 amHad a table at the Hobbyist Market yesterday, which is the local one-day nerd shows. They seem to have started as dedicated Pokemon card events and are still heavy on that. Instead of being down the street like the last couple, this was a couple of towns away in the Mall.
The basically-dead Mall. We were originally scheduled to be down a distant corridor, but in the corridor so we'd theoretically get wandering foot traffic... But then when load-in instructions arrived, we'd been moved to the big shoe store (which is how I found out the big shoe store is gone). Honestly, it was a nice location! Big glass storefront, well-lit, and near to remaining stores. I wasn't entirely sure if people would wander in but they did!
Traffic was steady but sales were meh. Made table, got rid of a bunch of stuff, but it was all low-value random stuff. (This is also mostly on me? I wasn't planning to do this one til last-minute because May was such a mess. So I really didn't have anything new or exciting.)
Aside from some toolbox stickers, I mostly got things for other people. Some stickers for a gunpla server buddy, dice for
taichara... One vendor I've chatted with plenty of times gave me a 3D-printed obscene duck, lol.

WIP, got the wing assembly done and took a quick, badly posed picture:

Oberon and the Blue Estailev tied when I did that poll back in February. A coin flip had me do the Estailev first, so I'm building Oberon now. Reports of the wing connectors being fragile are no joke and unless I figure out something to support the weight, I probably won't keep the wings on for display.

I ordered a brown AK paint marker solely to paint these crates, because I had absolutely no brown, apparently. No brown in the other marker sets, no brown paint. This is both baffling, because it's a pretty common color, but also not surprising because I first started painting Transformers for customs/character-swaps, and then moved on to Gundam and models and those all need brighter, shinier colors... So, finally, brown. Also grabbed a nice orange that's probably 99% for Blue Frames.
Crates were not the only thing I worked on over the weekend, but they were something I kept coming back to. I'm not sure what scale they're meant to be. Probably 1/35 or 1/48? But I can do whatever with them. All five were in a bag for $1 at SEMMEX so I feel like however they turn out and whatever I do with them, I got a good deal.
Nothing else to report. Have some plants ready to give away, and dug stuff for next weekend's nerd show out of the closet.
Back to That
May. 15th, 2026 09:03 pmThere was an official Gundam Conference earlier today, which was honestly a lot of announcements-for-announcements ahead of the franchise's 50th anniversary coming up in a couple of years. The main announcements-for-announcements were for a remaster of First Gundam, which sounds like a remaster/re-edit sort of thing, and new Gundam Wing, which might be a whole-ass multi-cour show. I have high hopes it'll be Frozen Teardrop, because that'll be a lot of fun, but I suspect it might be closer to a mashup for all of current canon, so Glory+FT.
Trying for a low-key, get some stuff cleaned up and sorted out weekend, physically and virtually and mentally. I had, uh, four different pre-orders come in at once including a huge 'mystery box' from Kotobukiya which ended up being both very interesting and kind of meh at the same time. While the ones I did from P-Bandai earlier in the year could clearly be called fukubukuro, I'm not sure if I can use the term for the Koto box even though that's clearly what it was. The main thing I ended up with was a bunch of Hexa Gear's Governors, which is a fancy name for their pilot-figure model kits. But no actual things for them to pilot. So now I'll eventually need to get them some rides, lol. (I guess that's how they get you.)
But yeah, whoops, pile of stuff to put away. Boxes are all broken down and mostly out, at least, and bubbles popped and recycled, etc. I am theoretically building my Calrea, finally, this weekend but in practice I am also working on painting up an ancient Wing-series kit that I disassembled last year and parts have been balefully floating around my desk since. It's one of the old adoptions and I am ready to stop re-litigating it, but that means clean-up, paint, and reassembly. It does not need to be perfect, just done.

May. 10th, 2026 07:37 amEarly Saturday, I took a bag of recycling down to the bins. It was impressively foggy and the air smelled of rancid beach and rot along the strandline. About halfway to the bins, I looked up at the most perfect half-moon I've ever seen, clear above the middle building. I dumped my recycling, turned, and the moon had moved about 30° in the sky. Surely an optical illusion, surely... I burned incense when I got inside, to appease whatever I might've accidentally brought back in from that liminal space and had I not had plans for later, would have just locked the door and crawled back in bed for the day.
I did end up dozing for a bit after and dreamed of at least three of the cemeteries that exist only in my dreams. I did not linger in all of them, especially not the one- (drive past drive past drive past don't look)
Took trash earlier. Everything was very normal.
I should burn more incense anyway.

HOLY SHIT NEW STARFOX
May. 6th, 2026 09:46 pmI mean we all had our suspicions but StarFox Direct from nowhere blew everything out of the water holy shit! I do have the money set aside for a Switch2 so I guess I'll be doing that sooner than later.
and maybe I'll get Elore's Bogus Journey while I'm at it?
Except I've mostly lost track of dates so I'm basically tossing out the old advent and will start over with counting down to... idk, Xmas? all over again?
Dragon Goes House Hunting 9 (Kawo Tanuki & Choco Aya) - still cute, still gonna be glad this is ending next volume.
Polite Society - this was honestly really fun even if it wasn't entirely what I was expecting and I think it'll likely end up as a frequent comfort watch just because it's so delightful and over the top.
Know Your Ships (2011 Edition) - my father picked up a bundle and this was a duplicate of what he had, so I now have a fancy, if outdated, Great Lakes Ship reference. \o/
Nobunaga Concerto - JFF film, this is a movie wrapping up a television series, and the movie does the quickest three minute recap and then just runs with the bonkers isekai premise. It was okay, but probably lost a lot without having seen the series.
Bleach S1 - I actually had expected to watch this and then put it in the sale bin but I really enjoyed it. Maybe I'll pick up the next set and see how far I get before I fall off like I always do. Bleach has a really good beginning.
Every Day A Good Day - JFF film, this one was about tea ceremony and was a nice enough culture drama. About a young woman learning tea ceremony and how she kept with it over the years.
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers 6-11 (Katsuyuki Sumizawa, Tomofumi Ogasawara) - the whole middle and getting to the end! Lots of little differences and explanations for things that felt vague in the anime. Gorgeous art and fun extras, too.
Confetti - JFF film, this one was absolutely wonderful. About the youngest member of a traveling theater troupe and how he enrolls in a new school for the duration of the troupe's stay in a town, but he doesn't tell his classmates about his life.
The Prince and the Dressmaker (Jen Wang) - reread to finally write something for
small_fandoms since I've meant to for actual ages. This is still delightful and full of yearning.
Tsukipro The Animation 2 - still idols and fun songs, but things get a lot weirder in this one and it's a lot of fun.
Let's Go Karaoke - JFF film, live-action adaptation, about a yakuza guy recruiting a teenage choir member to teach him how to sing. It's not BL but it's also not not BL, or something. I ended up watching the short anime version afterward and while it does some things different, they're both really good.
Heavy Metal L-Gaim (Box Set 1) - L-Gaim is getting a domestic release (or just has) so I wanted to watch this ancient bootleg set and see if I actually liked it enough to get the proper version. Unfortunately the translation on this is pretty poor and I'm not sure how I feel about the story. There are a lot of interesting things but also a lot that... eh. But absolute banger of an OP, if nothing else. I do have the second set but it's vanished from the pile by the TV so ???
Carole & Tuesday - since I picked up the fancy box set, I wanted to do a quick disc check and this is always so, so good. I don't think I've ever actually put this show away because I always want to watch it again. Fabulous music, fabulous everything.

Spiral Bound
Apr. 20th, 2026 09:27 pmI am currently not allowed to purchase any further emotional support notebooks until I use up a substantial amount of the emotional support notebooks that I have. This is actually fine, because for the first time in ages I can get to most of my notebooks. At the very furthest reaches of my bedroom shelves are a bunch of old and battered spiral notebooks, quite a few of which suggest they're leftover from my first stabs at college and university. Any remaining pages in these can be used for things like Accidental Advent, rough logging possessions before sorting properly, and general notes. Use once and destroy. (well, recycle)
I have, multiple times over the years, found absolute notebooks upon notebooks filled with my old fantasy novel. The last plan was to stuff it all into the back of my file cabinet, which I apparently then never did because I just found it all again. This time, it'll get filed for reals. (hopefully)
But I have also found some blank or blank-enough notebooks for projects, which is good. Also found the beginnings of a Serpent Tail timeline, probably from the big timeline that came with the serialized version of Frame Astrays, pre-smartphone... I remember working painstakingly with my kanji dictionary on my lap and now I can just point, poke, and probably have the whole thing translated and corrected in an hour. ;_; (this is mildly untrue because the amount of cross-referencing I'd start doing would turn it into a weekend project and then I'd start adding in information and whoops)
((I wonder if a newer whole-series timeline exists in any form.))

(Probably Enough)
Apr. 19th, 2026 07:23 pmNow that it's time to go back to work for the week, the brainweasels of "you didn't get enough done this weekend" have come to circle. Could I have done more? Probably. But did I do an absolute lot? Sure did! (Just ask my back!)
While digging through stacks of books that I didn't realize I had, I came to two conclusions. First, swapping out the short, long bookcase in degrading condition would be a good plan. There have been two tall, thin bookcases at the 'rents that were 'given' to me years ago that I just didn't think I had space for. If those will fit in the same spot, it'll be perfect. And second, I completely fell off with Accidental Advent, which is fine and not terribly surprising. I'll see about re-starting in the near future because I did enjoy the nudge. (The old bookcase can probably go to the garage if I can get it up on cinderblocks. It's still fine to hold non-book things but if the bottom shelf has started a chemical reaction, I don't assume it'll magically stop.)
I suppose plans for the rest of spring/summer are going to involve clearing every shelf, cleaning it, and checking conditions of things. I also need to get fresh air into the place more often. I'd wanted to get things opened up already but it's also rained every day for like two weeks now. Except right now, because it's snowing heavily. (WTF)
Also got a good percentage of my gunpla logged. I want to eventually have a good list of what I have both unbuilt and built. While just my backlog sounds like a slightly better time, I definitely know that I've built things and then forgotten about them as time passed. (In my defense, I mean built in like ~2010.)
I stirred up a lot of dust, which mostly means that I have a lot of dust and need to do some work tetris-ing things around so I can do a more thorough vacuum and whatnot.
I know I declare every year as the year I finally sort through everything but I'm feeling the motivation and am going to try to run with it.

Went on an entire road trip today- Michael's first, which is down near where I used to work but feels like the other end of the universe. I have, for months, kept thinking I should make a chunky list for when I finally got down there, because I need many things... Did I ever make this list? No. Did I get the one thing I really needed? Yes. (smallish ziploc bags, generally sold for beads and whatnot but I use them for gunpla accessories)
Then on to HobbyTown to pick up a belated prize from that contest a month ago. It is a ballcap, and I am not a ballcap-wearer, so it'll just chill on a wig head or something. Also picked up a couple of 30MM kits, RG Wing (all the Wings!), and a couple stands because I am direly low on stands and keep building critters that don't balance well.
After that, back across to a free "anime convention" also near where I used to work. I can't even say I managed to walk around once because it was the biggest shitfire I've ever seen of a convention and I have been to a lot of dire nerd shows. No parking (I parked at a drugstore nearby and hoofed it), no lighting, a rock band playing loudly over a wrestling show, and a bunch of randomly laid-out artist tables and some random woo and a poor guy selling fudge. The layout was so bad that it was impossible to walk down aisles normally, even without cosplayers in large costumes blocking things (possibly the only actual "anime convention" hallmark). Maybe stayed ten minutes.
Doing a lot of cleaning tonight, both in my bedroom and online. First is a quick journal cleanup, removing inactive accounts and a bunch of communities that I'm not doing anything with and probably won't any time soon. As always, it's not anything personal. I should do my fediverse accounts next, and discord servers that I haven't looked at in ages.
(Bedroom cleaning is cataloguing models and became a dedicated shelf clean of a bookcase where I think the old paperbacks and the old clearcoat are interacting badly. But I think I can replace that bookcase easily so *waves hands* I also gave the discolored/spotty book bottoms a quick sand and they look a lot better. Also also these are mass market pocket paperbacks from the ~80's so they are not in great shape to begin with and there's some book repair in my future.)

Longer Weekend
Apr. 13th, 2026 12:26 amSaturday, we went to a little card/nerd show up in town. It was very small and badly lit, not helped by my new glasses, which are also transitions, transitioning very slowly. ^^;; I did buy some dice and a used set of Dragonball GT, which I've never seen past about the first episode.
Sunday, we drove over to Flint in the cold rain and... nobody had arrived to open the hall. I was worried we'd be late to set-up but it was another hour before we got in. Everything after that went smoothly, after the fastest set-up in history.
Stopped at Rider's Hobby after, and got a couple of kits, a bunch of DSPIAE markers I didn't have, and an AK marker set since I haven't tried those yet. Also a gift for my aunt so I have something for her birthday in a few weeks.
And now, a day off to recover. Aside from the usual housework I guess I'm just going to try to catch up on a few things?

Apr. 10th, 2026 08:12 pmA long weekend, since I will be helping my father with things on Sunday.
Through no fault of its own, Lord of Heroes will be shutting down in the near future. The developers put all their money and LoH's money into developing a game that went straight into development hell and then tanked upon release, bankrupting the entire company. It's the kind of ultra-grindy Korean gacha that has a really good story, but I never got more than halfway because the grindwalls are real. OG Shadowverse is also shutting down but at this point that'll mostly be reclaimed space on my phone. I just cannot brain card games.
Probably going to bounce in and out of both Ever Crisis and Dissidia. That'll put me down to ~7 phone games. I guess Eternal, Last Cloudia, and Seven Knights will be my mains. Still need to get back to playing FFVII on Switch; I'm right before Wutai, which I've never actually played through, and feel like I need to put a little more effort into it. ^^;;
Picked up my new glasses, which are baby's first progressives and so far they're okay? I haven't quite figured out the proper angle to look at some things but I'll get there.
Should have the blue Estailev finished up tonight. Then, jokingly, I'm going to build like 10 HGs. But maybe. Definitely time for a few smaller things.

Apr. 6th, 2026 09:35 amI am mildly behind partly because I spent half the weekend with a minor-enough case of food poisoning. More annoying than anything, because I did have things I wanted to do. The other half was the hobby market, which was kinda slow and while I at least made table, I wish I could sell a few of the larger things. Ah well.
Other than that, I am making decent progress with the Blue Estailev. I have the upper body/head/arms together, and am working on a leg. (I'll try to add a decent picture later; the one I have has a half-built arm and looks a little macabre.)

Going to try to post a little more often, as proof of life as much as anything. ^^;;
Not too much April Fools stuff today, though I'm not surprised. Only a couple of my mobile games did anything, and only a couple of discords, etc.
For the record, the Blue Estailev won the build poll from back in February. Actually, it and the Oberon were tied so I just flipped a coin. I have the Estailev all de-bagged/runner-checked and waiting, but I probably won't get to it til the weekend. I did end up building the NG X-Divider that I'd found and detailed it up more than intended... Looks pretty good, just needs to go on a shelf.
Working on some other things... April is busy! So far, I have Hobby Market this weekend, Semmex at the end of the month, my father's hobby club next weekend, it's Advance of Zeta April (so I need to find a kit to build for that), one discord is doing a kind of unofficial Wing kit group build, I personally have
spring_renewal to run, and (not mine)
vampiremedia is doing a drabblethon that I want to write a few things for. Whew! I'm sure there's more.
Eye exam in the morning. I can never quite get over the dread of being told my eyes have gotten worse even though I am going literally because I am very aware of my eyes being worse. *sigh*
