Since writing the last update on my haino/cyhaino fic (https://kaiosea.dreamwidth.org/115618.html) I wrote about 11,529 in the first 5 days of July. This is kind of crazy for me but I feel crazy about this fic. Also added around 1000-1400 from my scraps pile back in, since I had written some of the ending at the beginning of the drafting process (which began... oh god... in Sept 2024. I took a lot of really long breaks because I didn't know what to do). Then I skimmed the whole thing and noted where I had actually missing parts and started filling those in. Once I am done then I will say yes; I have an actual first draft.

Ch 1 - 5568
Ch 2 - 6548
Ch 3 - 6609
Ch 4 - 5986
Ch 5 - 8121
Ch 6 - 4592
Ch 7 - 3939
Ch8 - 5237

Because this is longer than anything I have ever written I need a different editing strategy because I know my usual one won't work. I tried looking around fic and not-fic spaces to find tips and didn't really come up with anything useful, so I'm thinking:
  1. Finish filling in the few missing parts (actually I only have one glaring missing part right now). Then the first draft is done
  2. Very light edit over the whole thing just for readability - typos, wrong names, etc., only enough so that I can...
  3. Read entire thing and make notes in a separate doc - DO NOT EDIT, DO NOT LINE EDIT - Only note big things e.g. completely dropped plot line, missing character
  4. Track arcs / check arcs. I have 11 things I want to check so use spreadsheet I think. Look chapter by chapter because arc by arc would take forever. Probably will take a long time, but my current spreadsheet is already formatted like this so it helps. Then, start making broad fixes. "Arc" is probably not the proper term but it is what I call it in my head.
  5. Characterization check - each important character - maybe in conjunction with next step (dialogue check). Not sure if better to do scene by scene or character by character (in short fic i always do this character by character, but i usually have like… 2-3 mains. Not like this fic with 9+ significant characters + others who still have canon personalities no matter how one-note they are in canon)
  6. Dialogue check
  7. Themes check
  8. Line editing, which might actually take as long as all previous steps put together
  9. Repeat any/all previous steps as many times as needed
  10. Beta if I can find one... might need to start looking soon
Anyway feel free to give thoughts/feedback, I'm on step 1 lol, this might look insane. I thought about doing themes check earlier than 6 but I think it'll be easier like this; I'll see, will probably adjust things as I go.

I wrote 18,396 in June. Unfortunately I won't be ready to publish any of it for some time (unless I successfully delude myself into thinking I can post my ORV fic serially, which may indeed happen.) At least 13,000 words of that is Alhaitham/Cyno fic. Which currently stands at:

Ch 1 - 5513
Ch 2 - 6324
Ch 3 - 6402
Ch 4 - 5941
Ch 5 - 7100 and growing, almost done D:

But this is all first draft so it will shrink and grow and change when I am finished (hopefully) and able to edit it in... 4-5 weeks? Optimistically, if I stay on this current pace. I am still following the recent outline for 8 chapters, and I think at least one of the last 3 will be a shorter chapter, under 6k. Also, this is already the longest thing I have EVER written, wooo! I had hoped it would be around 40k but it's looking like 48k is likely. Please, not more than 50k...

I'm also getting ahead of myself by worrying about a beta but I want a beta eventually and it just feels very niche. It is such a rarepair, and it is also really ensemble, so there is a loooot more going on than the ship, and it's also very dialogue-focused. But I guess finding one is a problem for later.

I maybe have a longfic process now. It was an accident and it goes like this:

cut for length and rambling )
kaiosea: image of lee sungjong from infinite (Default)
I always have too many things I want to write a post about and then I don't post any of them. I'm part of the problem. Anyway here's a list of things.

-I'm reading The Importance of Being Earnest for the first time. I have never read Oscar Wilde before now and now I think I will only read Oscar Wilde.

-Oh my god, I'm watching Link Click (the webtoon/anime, on Crunchyroll) and it is so freaking good. The best thing I've watched in a while. It's amazing the storytelling they pull off in each 24 min episode, and they jump right into the time travel quandaries that I love right off the bat. It's just extremely well-composed so far.

-I did a much better outline for the fic I've been wanting to write since approx. Sept 2024. (Let's not mention the other fics I've been wanting to write since 2022 or earlier...) I had already written 8kish, but it didn't feel right when I'd go back to it. A lot of the pacing was off and I finally realized I couldn't fix it by adding more to the scenes. The scenes had to change and certain moments had to go later or earlier. So I made a better outline (which is 2k on its own...), developed some new ideas, started a new doc, and chopped up my first draft by bringing over chunks and pieces that still work, filling in and writing more as I go. The chopping up is what I really was fearing, but it's been fine. Actually, it's been fun, like a jigsaw puzzle, except that I keep changing the shape of the puzzle and cutting new pieces to fit. And now I have almost 12k in the new draft and 6k sitting in the old draft scraps (and cut a bunch as well) but hopefully I will still be able to use some of it... I also really wish that I could post chapters as I go. But because I know I'll want to keep moving things around, I will need to wait until the whole thing is done, and I think it'll be better if I can edit the whole fic, too. Hopefully getting to the end means adding only 20k more. Wow, I'm shocked how much I care about this fic, especially when it's mostly gen.

I was missing writing memes as an excuse to talk about writing then I realized I can do them on bsky if I want. But I can also do them here! and I want to also have my responses in a less ephemeral way too.

The meme: https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:zllekkhwrwsi7zvkzrrg4sbh/bafkreiefmwx32biucmksqnstg65ajok6lczhd7a26il5mhwudmf2zsybby
(I didn’t make this meme, just found it.)

Written out:
1. Favorite genre(s) to write
2. Preferred tense & POV
3. Tag you’ve used most
4. What inspires you to write
5. 1 line from a current WIP
6. Trope you want to write
7. Favorite character to write
8. How you choose your titles
9. Describe your writing style
10. A comment you treasure
11. Favorite scene you’ve written
12. Fic that best represents you
13. A fun fact about a fic you wrote
14. How you handle writer’s block
15. Hardest thing for you to write
16. Dialogue you loved writing
17. Your planning process
18. Your editing process
19. Your favorite writing tip
20. Your current writing goals

Respond with numbers and I'll answer more! And anyone can take this meme, I just found it somewhere myself.

Already answered:
1. favorite genre is hard. i feel like I mix a lot of genres but action/romance/drama prob?
3. Lol "Anal Sex" with 17 fics. But I have 92 works so I think this just means I don't repeat tags very often
5. “If it’s the caring that you care about, what if I resign, but I care? As opposed to staying, but without caring?” (Points if anyone guesses who this is)
6. bodyswap. I have never written this but it is one of my fave tropes ever. someday when I find the right fic for it!
10: truly every comment. I try to respond to as many as I can and I'm sometimes very late but each comment means a lot
11: hmm fave scene, I do like Ch. 6 from my blade/dan heng time travel fic. I liked writing the fights and transformation

Something about going anywhere makes me want to read Omniscient Reader, probably because Omniscient Reader is one of the best stories I've ever read and also extremely long, so I will never run out of it to read no matter how long the travel is. And it's easily downloadable with the free Webtoon app which makes it convenient on the go. Plus, the source material is finished, which is always encouraging.

With most stories that I love, I admire them from a distance and enjoy exploring other perspectives and learning new things. I usually feel like I am learning something about someone else and experiencing a story that I would never produce myself - it's just not something that would ever come out of me no matter how much I love it. But there are some stories that I feel like I believe in so strongly, and I desperately wish that I could have written them. It's not really jealousy, nor am I saying that I could write something so good - just that I feel a strong sense of recognition and connection. It's something that I would want to write if I could have, because it's something I believe in. Omniscient Reader is one of those stories. It's a story about a story about stories about stories, and it's a story about readers and authors. Everything is interconnected. But most of all, it's relentlessly kind, yet never saccharine. I think the kindness takes a little while to reveal itself, but it's incredibly recognizable after a certain point. And I think it's the defining feature that makes it so special! It's a twisty story with tons of different factions and secrets, a story where characters, when faced with life or death choices, strive to always find the third way. It's a story that believes in the essential humanity of people and their potential, even when they don't believe in their own. I never get tired of reading and re-reading it.

Doing my signup for Fandom Trumps Hate (https://www.tumblr.com/fandomtrumpshate) in the last 3 hours before it closes, I think?? Unless I change my mind mid-signup.

Either way I really want to know who are the two other World Trigger creators who signed up lol

PSA: AO3 deletes fics with author's notes that have ANY mention of donations, bidding, or specific donation platforms. If you have ever done a charity event like Fandom Trumps Hate, check your fics. It's very strict, apparently.

I was alerted because I saw this tumblr post: https://letteredlettered.tumblr.com/post/803854003559710720/a-few-people-have-said-that-they-didnt-know-that

AO3 TOS on charity works: https://archiveofourown.org/tos_faq#charity_drives

You CAN say something was written for a specific event, but be careful about the wording and links. The TOS above has more details.

I was pretty surprised when I read the TOS because I could have sworn that this was not always the wording of the policy around charity drives. And it did change! Earlier versions as late as 2024 didn't mention all the things you couldn't and couldn't say. So the policy has become a lot more specific and strict since last year.

(I guess this is a note that when a website says they've updated the TOS, read the TOS. But honestly, who is going to do that...)

I was surprised when I checked my own fics that I actually did have to go back and edit an A/N that wasn't previously prohibited, at least not specifically. I had to remove the word 'bidding'.

Also the fact that some people spend their time reporting fics to AO3 instead of commenting and telling the author makes me sad, it literally takes less time to comment.

Anyway, I suggest checking your own works but also checking any gifts that you've received - if there is any language in the latter, please comment and let the author know.

For low effort, you can use or modify the text below. You don't need to mention or credit me, and feel free to repost it on your own blog too.

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that AO3's updated TOS bans any mentions of "donating, bidding, or any specific contribution amounts or donation platforms." I really like this fic and wouldn't want to see it deleted by AO3 because of the notes! Here is the FAQ for more: https://archiveofourown.org/tos_faq#charity_drives

I made a bsky (or really I made the decision to "do" bsky, even though I do not know how), a site that seems to be going down the same path as twitter just exponentially faster, but that's what they all do (except Dreamwidth, my #1), and I'm desperately in need. Anyway I'm the same username on there, feel free to follow!

I also logged into Tumblr for the first time in like 8 years but it was so dead D: Literally 98% of my mutuals have left as well, but I also did, so... Not only that, I searched a few of my current ship tags and the tags are also pretty dead. These are ships for active fandoms that have like 1000-6000+ fics on AO3. Basically I'm very confused by fandom these days, namely where it is.
kaiosea: (aventurine)
Something I wrote up for my friend who kindly read my current Blade/Dan Heng fic fandom-blind (so that they could do so), and I find it funny so here it is:

Under a cut )
kaiosea: (kuga yuuma)
Hi! I'm Kaiosea on AO3 as well.

Always happy to receive treats!
Additionally, feel free to treat for any ship that I requested in the last year (Aug 2024-now) even if I didn't specifically request it or its fandom in this exchange.

I’m not picky so if you already matched me on a fandom, I’ll definitely be happy with what you write and I am equally excited about all of the requests. If you have questions, I’m happy to clarify anything or to give more prompts. Letter information below the cut.

DNWs (things I don't want)- (click to expand)
DNWs (things I don't want):

setting change AUs (like coffeeshop, high school), A/B/O, crossovers, fics that focus extensively on sexism/racism/homophobia/etc, fics that focus extensively on identity topics or issues (sexuality crisis, gender, etc), references to Covid or contemporary politics, non-canonical permanent death of requested characters, pregnancy, non-con* (*I'm ok with Fuck or Die trope)

Smut likes (optional):

More smut things I like (also optional):
Basically any configuration of D/S and/or S/M. so submissive tops, dominant bottoms, dominant tops, submissive bottoms, masochist tops, sadistic bottoms, and so on, all are good, you get the idea.

World Trigger (click to expand)

World Trigger

I love everything about World Trigger. I love the large cast of characters and the ways that their paths interact; it feels very realistic and richly drawn to me. I like the complicated battles and strategy. I like how each character has their own objectives, and they team up based on many factors, which might be any of: trying to get home, trying to impress a crush, wanting to earn money, trying not to die, trying to prevent others' deaths- the list goes on. The battles and battle mechanics fascinate me, too, and competency kink applies to every character I can think of! I will stay up to date with the manga. And there are so many in-universe mediums that I requested - battle plans, field reports, heraldic crests (which they canonically have!), interactive fiction, I'm down for anything I requested.

Inukai Sumiharu/Kageura Masato

-I'm very into Kageura's Side Effect (and side effects in general) and how Inukai feels to him
-I love the dynamic where Kageura hates Inukai, but Inukai doesn't hate Kageura. Though Inukai does love to provoke Kageura at every turn, but that's just Inukai's personality :D
-I adored the moment when Kageura stabbed Inukai through the chest in the snow battle. That seemed personal. Also they're in the same-age group and share mutual friends, so are they ever forced to hang out in a group together? Or does Kageura's hate prevent him from even associating with Inukai? Maybe their friends play a prank on them and they're forced onto a pseudo-date together
-Body swap would mean that Inukai suddenly is faced with Kageura's painful Side Effect. How does he deal with this? Better or worse than Kageura does? How might Kageura reluctantly, eventually help Inukai cope? Also, do they teach each other how to be an Attacker/Gunner, or do they let the other fail miserably?
-Their away test mission team dynamic is hilarious and also interesting. What happens when they're sharing a room or a bed together? When they're on dinner duty? What about combat? They bicker during the day, but what do they do at night?

Hyuse/Jin Yuuichi

-Hyuse will accept help from Karasuma "but not Jin," according to his own words, which is really funny to me
-Jin went to a lot of efforts to keep Hyuse around. What has he foreseen? What has he not been able to see?
-What if Hyuse becomes obsessed with analyzing Jin to figure out his motives (Why did Jin really try so hard to get Hyuse onto Tamakoma-2?); accidentally ends up developing a crush or falling in love with Jin through getting to know him so well
-What if Hyuse didn't receive any sex education on Aftokrator and Jin has to explain/show some things to him
-Anything set during the away mission to Aftokrator, or on Aftokrator. How do they get there, and what happens once they're there?

Jin Yuuichi/Miwa Shuuji

-They've both lost people that they loved to Neighbors, but their outlooks are totally different, which I find interesting
-Miwa strongly dislikes Jin, but at the same time, Jin sent Miwa into an existential crisis after Miwa found out that Jin's mother was killed by Neighbors, yet Jin doesn't hate Neighbors. I think that Yoneya said something like this about Miwa: 'people used to always hate and kill Neighbors, but now they're saying the opposite, so Miwa's confused' and I wanted to know so much more
-Not friends with benefits, because they're not friends--but agents with benefits? Who would develop feelings first? Who already had feelings for the other before it even started?
-It was mentioned that Jin would train the other Fuujin candidates. How did Miwa react to this? How might they grow closer throughout the training?
-They keep being forced to work together, whether it's in the Galopoula invasion or the Large-Scale invasion, and Miwa's attitude seems to be softening towards Jin. How did that happen over time? Or is that just an illusion?

Inukai/Tsuji

-I can see Inukai bringing Tsuji out of his shell over time
-Comforting each other after Hatohara disappears
-Origin story of Ninomiya Unit - the dynamics of the squad when they first became one, up until now

Inukai & Wakamura
Hyuse & Wakamura
-The recent chapters with Wakamura have been very interesting. Inukai & Wakamura - why did Inukai take him on as a mentee? Wakamura can't remember, but what was Inukai talking to Wakamura about during those training sessions? Hyuse & Wakamura - how will they surprise each other, or fulfill expectations?
-Include all three in a scene if you like - though I can't imagine how that interaction would go, I am sure it would be fun to see.

Ninomiya Masataka/Yuba Takuma (World Trigger)
-I could watch their final showdown on repeat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk3DK36ANIo
-Two unit leaders, both serious but with very different approaches to leading their squads!
-I also feel there could be some latent sexual tension there

Alice in Borderland (click to expand)
Alice in Borderland
I've watched all of the TV show and read all of the manga - either canon is fine. You can assume that I will watch the 3rd season, which is coming out before this exchange ends. (But also if you diverge from canon or don't watch s3 that's fine.) My favorite character is Chishiya. I love how sneaky and intelligent Chishiya is. I also love the games in Alice in Borderland, so more games are welcome. Mediums - Combining game mechanics with fic is welcome.

Chishiya/Kuzuryu

-I like these two characters together because they are brilliant, and they both are searching for something that they can't find an answer to, and they have a drastic effect on each other's minds during the King of Diamonds game
-AU where Kuzuryuu doesn't die in their shared game, and they enter another game together (Queen of Diamonds? We never saw that one in the manga)
-The Beach executives don't trust Chishiya when he first finds them, so they imprison him. Kuzuryu is assigned (or volunteers?) to be his jailor.
-Kuzuryuu and Chishiya participating in a face card game (somehow, Kuzuryuu can still compete), or a tricky game while at the Beach
-Maybe they're in a game pretending to be on opposite sides, but they're actually working together the whole time. Or vice versa.
-Trapped together, either in a game or not
-Games, in general

Banda/Yaba

-I'm interested in both of them being evil together as citizens! Gleeful torture and sadism
-What roles do they assume as citizens? What sick games do they create together? Or separately?
-Each of them trying to outdo the other in creating twisted games
-Yaba being an investor/company VP and Banda being a literal serial killer amuses me when they're shown on a similar level of amorality
-Heavy dubcon between the two of them, in a power struggle type of way (but not in a "realistic noncon" way)
-Whatever happens in season 3, building on that

Aguni/Heiya
-I thought they were cute in the show and I liked that they slowly trusted each other (and even more in the manga)
-I enjoy Heiya's directness
-More of their wilderness times? Opening up to each other? Having brief moments of fun together?
-Post Borderland recovery together. How have they changed/changing as people?
-I'm not not interested in smut...

Dr. Stone (Anime) (click to expand)
Dr. Stone (Anime)
No spoilers for the manga please :) I will stay up to date with the currently airing anime. I don't think it will quite finish covering the manga by the time FIAB reveals.
Senkuu is my favorite character!

Senkuu/Tsukasa
-Did Tsukasa really change his mind? Why or why not?
-Their conversations after Tsukasa is unfrozen. What are they like?
-Moral or ethical dilemmas
-Royalty AU where Senkuu and Tsukasa are actual warring kings (Fine to ignore my "no setting AUs" for this prompt)
-Smut ideas: first times, Senkuu experimenting (so to speak), anything where they experience discovery (D/s, light masochism?)

Senkuu/Dr. Xeno
-Competing scientists who can match each other's brilliance!

White Christmas (K-drama) (click to expand)
White Christmas (K-drama)
One of my favorite shows ever please watch this. I am very interested in post-canon fic!
Also very interested in: What if Yohan was allowed to finish the sessions with their parents? Especially those we didn't meet - Jaekyu, Chihoon, and a long session with Youngjae (who was so terrified he tried to lock himself in) and/or Youngjae's parents. I've also wondered if Chihoon's parents decided not to come to the school when called.

Lots of spoilers below.

Chihoon/Jaekyu
-Chihoon protected Jaekyu, though Chihoon almost certainly didn't think of it that way. And Jaekyu protected Chihoon, by not turning himself in. But also... Jaekyu starts the series hating Chihoon, perhaps more than anyone. How does their relationship develop post-canon?

Chihoon/Muyeol
-Their enterprising trek where Chihoon's leg gets broken (thanks to Muyeol) and he is saved (also thanks to Muyeol) was so interesting! Muyeol had stored up so much resentment toward Chihoon, probably over hears
-Post-canon, Muyeol's obsession with Chihoon develops into something darker. Chihoon is indifferent, or amused?

Chihoon/Mireu
-Mireu's reaction to hearing that Chihoon had died - what happened in the past that made him think this way? Why did he have that reaction?
-Opposites attract: Mireu wants to understand Chihoon, but his methods of understanding are unorthodox.

Honkai Star Rail (click to expand)

Aventurine/Sunday
Aventurine is my favorite character, and I love his interactions with Sunday, another favorite of mine. They're very well-matched, each trying to manipulate each other (and those around them). They both seem like they're restraining themselves most of the time. Aventurine's tragic past, his passive death wish, combined with Sunday's controlling altruism, his reformed philosophy after Penacony - I just think they're so interesting, and I'd love to see their dynamic explored. Maybe Sunday, on his journey of repentance, decides he needs to make amends with Aventurine, but Aventurine disagrees - or has an interesting idea of what those amends should be. I also think they would have really great sex... whether it's before, during, or after the time period where Sunday sentenced Aventurine to death. Or in a canon divergence AU! Or what if Aventurine/the IPC decides to sue Sunday for personal damages, mostly out of spite, but it brings them closer together?

Other stuff
Prefer top Sunday/bottom Aventurine if it applies, but no preference on any other kinks or dynamics like D/s or other.
Aventurine's story is pretty dark, so references to past noncon during Aventurine's past when he was enslaved are fine but by no means required.
I also like Aventurine's friendship with Ratio and Sunday's bond with Robin + Astral Express in general. References to past Ratio/Aventurine or FWB Ratio/Aventurine are fine.

Genshin Impact(click to expand)

I really like this as a V with Alhaitham/Cyno and Alhaitham/Kaveh, and him having different and distinct relationships with both of them. I'm open to interpretations of what this would look like! I think it's clear that Alhaitham /does/ care about Kaveh in canon, despite how fond I am of their petty arguments. And I think despite their initial antagonism, Alhaitham and Cyno work very smoothly together, like in Alhaitham's story quest.
I haven't progressed the main story since ~5.4 but I don't think this will matter because there hasn't been any Sumeru content since then.

Optional prompts
-I'm interested in seeing established relationship or pre-relationship and how one or both develop - but I'd rather that the fic not spend a lot of time on relationship negotiations or definitions.
-Curious about Alhaitham/Cyno leaning more or entirely romantic and Alhaitham/Kaveh leaning more or entirely sexual.
-Also prefer top Alhaitham if it applies.

I wish I had a good place to put early drafts of fic, but where there was also the possibility of natural discovery and maybe comments (aka probably not Dreamwidth). I know I could put a draft on AO3, but that feels like too much pressure. Idk why because it's certainly possible but I feel like AO3 is where I'd want to put finished things, not first drafts. It feels harder to edit something once it's on there.

I re-read one of the funniest quests in Genshin - I can't believe this was time-limited! I didn't realize it was, or I forgot. I really love the relationships in Sumeru.

Okay I wrote my last post before I had even encountered the huge Aventurine storyline and

WHAT WAS THAT

He has shot to the top of my favorite characters in HSR. I really love how in-depth they went with the character writing, definitely the most deep in the game so far (maybe in Genshin too). And that they weren't afraid to go dark. I also love the switching POV storytelling mode throughout Penacony - I like being able to play full stories from other characters' perspectives.

I'm glad I stuck with EN voicing just for his VA, I definitely think it's worth it to play the Penacony arc in English for that alone. I really like his range and his delivery (and that Aventurine sounds very gay). Ugh I love this character, how did this happen.

Also I came prepared to ship him with Dr. Ratio and while I do like them, Sunday has also really grown on me...

Even though I'm maybe 1/3 through the Penacony story? It's my favorite arc so far. I love the setting of the dreamworld, the puzzles are fun, and I really like how numerous and varied the character interactions are (once I got past the longest fake date ever). And I love how obnoxious the characters are to each other (Aventurine included). I've also enjoyed the side stories. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest goes!
