Kadajah's EasyRoute - Native Map Integration & Move Route Builder

Abandon clunky, blind event command lists. Choreograph your RPG Maker MZ world in real-time.

For years, building complex cutscenes and intricate NPC patrol routes in RPG Maker has been a tedious game of trial and error, counting tiles, guessing coordinates, and blindly stacking command lists. Kadajah's EasyRoute completely overhauls how you animate movement in your RPG Maker MZ project. Inspired by modern visual timeline editors and level design tools, this system allows you to load your native project maps directly into a 60FPS visual simulator.

Give your events life with true 8-directional movement, intelligent A* pathfinding, and instant visual feedback. With interactive map pins, drag-and-drop timeline reordering, and native passability overlays, designing cutscenes transforms from a chore into a creative playground.

  • v1.2 Update: Now features a "Round Trip" generator that instantly reverses your entire movement sequence and appends it to safely return events to their origin point.
  • v1.5 Update: Added native A* Pathfinding. Click the pathfind tool and select any destination on the map canvas; the engine automatically calculates the shortest walkable path while avoiding obstacle tiles.
  • v1.8 Update: Added the "Group Folders" feature to organize long, multi-stage cutscene commands. Collapse and expand sections to keep your movement timeline clean and manageable.
  • v2.0 Update: Added the interactive "Pin Jump Target" tool. Click the target icon on any Jump command to visually drag and drop a landing marker directly onto your map grid.
  • v2.2 Update: Added the "Auto-Move Player" injection system. When editing the Player preview route, exporting will automatically generate a clean, self-deleting parallel event that executes the choreography seamlessly upon entering the map.

Technical Note regarding Auto-Move Player Exports: When exporting modified map data with a custom Player route, the tool automatically injects a self-switching Event (AutoMovePlayer) directly into your map's JSON. This uses standard RPG Maker MZ Event Commands (Set Movement Route -> Player, followed by Self Switch A). This ensures 100% native stability without requiring external runtime plugins or overwriting core engine scripts.

Key Features

  • True 8-Directional Movement: Break free from the standard 4-way grid. Seamlessly insert diagonal move commands (Down-Left, Up-Right, etc.) and custom turning logic directly into your native event pages.
  • Native A* Pathfinding: Stop manually counting tiles around tables and walls. Click anywhere on your map, and the algorithm calculates the exact sequence of step commands based on your Tileset's real passability data.
  • Collision & Passability Overlay: Toggle the "Collisions" view to instantly render your native Tileset flags (O, X, and Canopy blocking) over the map canvas, ensuring your events never get stuck.
  • Real-Time 60FPS Simulation: Test your choreography before opening the game. Play, pause, and stop your movement sequences in real-time, complete with custom walking/stepping animations and sprite rendering.
  • Non-Destructive ZIP Exporting: Click "Export (ZIP)" to bundle your updated Map00X.json and System.json files. Simply extract them over your project's data/ folder to apply your changes instantly.

The Tool: The EasyRoute Visual Workspace

Stop writing movement routes blindly. Design with precision.

At the heart of the system is the EasyRoute Visual Workspace, a powerful browser-based HTML5 interface that runs securely offline. Configuring complex movement coordinates and memorizing command codes can be a nightmare, but this workspace makes it effortless.

  • Project Directory Loading: Simply select your RPG Maker MZ root folder. The tool securely reads your Maps, Tilesets, Events, and Character sprites locally inside your browser, nothing is uploaded to the web.
  • Drag & Drop Timeline: Reorder movement, audio (Play SE), and logic blocks on the fly. Group them into draggable folders or use full Undo/Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y) support to experiment freely.
  • Quick Palette & Command Config: Customize your command dock. Hide commands you don't use and keep essentials like Speed changes, Opacity toggles, and Switch triggers just a single click away.

Creative Gameplay Mechanics

  • Smart Guard Patrols: Create complex stealth sequences effortlessly. Select an enemy guard, draw a multi-room patrol path, and click "Round Trip." Check the "Repeat" box in the Route Options, and your guard will patrol back and forth flawlessly forever.
  • Elaborate Cutscene Choreography: Use Group Folders to stage multi-actor cinematic sequences. Create a folder named "Player Approaches" using Pathfinding, followed by a "Boss Appears" group with opacity fades, door sound effects, and balcony jumps—all visually synced.
  • Dynamic Obstacle Navigation: Use the collision grid to design intricate puzzle rooms where sliding ice blocks or pushing boulders must follow exact passability rules without clipping through terrain.

Compatibility & Requirements

  • Engine: RPG Maker MZ.
  • Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Web Browsers (runs locally/offline).
  • Inputs: Supports Mouse, Touch, and Keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y).

Technical Specs & Plugin Compatibility

Built for native performance. Zero runtime bloat.

Unlike traditional movement suites that force heavy runtime plugins into your game's memory, Kadajah EasyRoute works by directly editing and optimizing your project's native JSON database files (MapXXXX.json). This means it relies on 100% native engine capabilities, ensuring zero framerate drops and unmatched compatibility.

  • Modified Data: The tool cleanly updates moveRoute, moveType, moveSpeed, and event coordinates inside your map files while preserving all your existing event commands, dialogue, and conditional branches.
  • Plugin Suite Compatibility:
    • VisuStella MZ: Fully compatible. Because the generated routes use native engine command structures, VisuStella's Events & Movement Core and Events Core will read and execute the exported paths without any friction.
    • Pixel Movement Plugins: Compatible with most grid-based pixel movement scripts, as the generated coordinates and diagonal commands map cleanly to standard engine directions (1, 3, 7, 9).
  • Save Files: Because changes are saved directly to the map data files, updates to event pages will apply seamlessly. For custom injected Player entrance routes, starting a New Game or re-entering the map is recommended to trigger the new choreography.
