I need to get more leafy greens in my diet. Spinach is lovely, and salads are great, but I want to branch out--chard, kale, that sort of thing.

Does anyone have recipes they like for those?

Calling all vegetarians!

Hi guys,

I'm just looking for some advice, I'm looking for a good vegetarian cook book- I'm aiming to be able to make really tasty meals for dedicated carnivores (mostly my dad, who needs to lower his red meat intake) and the cookbooks I have right now involve lots of lentils etc which my dad won't touch ( I know I know).

So really, any recommendations for good/great/awesome veggie cook books would be great. Personal testimonies get an A+!

Thankyou :)

I'm not a great cook, but I fake it with really fresh ingredients and colorful food. Dinner tonight was onions, peppers and green beans all local and bought within the week sauteed in red wine and garlic soy sauce. I used a couple fake chicken strips for texture and stuck it on a pita with spicy hummus. Simple and delicious! The sauce really makes it. Total prep time was less than ten minutes.

What's your favorite simple dish that's not straight out of a box? I'm a big fan of rice and beans too.

mmm

I just made the most amazing veggie lomein.

First I sauteed some garlic, onions and zucchini and then added finely sliced cabbage, some portobella mushroom and edamame.  I added bean sprouts and slivered almonds last (peanuts would be good but we have none).   Also, I added ginger and soy sauce to taste.

Meanwhile I discovered soba noodles (mmmm) so I heated some of those and I cooked an egg.  I put them all together and yum yum! very tasty dinner with a side of green tea.

Sweet heady sweetness, ya know?

Whoever created this community, mucho props my brother/sister!  This community is exactly what I've been looking for!

I love eating non-meaty type food things, but I don't like drama as a rule.  Instead of drama, I like filling my time seeing heady shows, rock climbing, bike riding, and generally creating positive vibes in all those around me, ya know?

My question for my new group of friends is this:

What's your favorite sandwich?  Although I do love a good Yves slices on rye, I'd have to say that almond butter and avacado on pumpernickel is the sweeeeeeetest.  Do any of you have favorite sandwiches?  When do you like to eat them?  I like mine right before a good rock climbing sesh.

Peace, y'all!

Best/Fav Cookbooks?

Hello fellow vegetarians!  I've been a vegetarian for about 3+ months now, and I'm anxious to start cooking some serious vegetarian main dishes.  Can anyone recommend their FAVORITE all time vegetarian cook book and tell me why it's your fav?

Thanks!

***** I should also mention that I DO NOT eat any meat or by products, but as of right now I do eat dairy and eggs(sparingly!)  I am hopefully going to go VEGAN, but not right now, I'm too poor for that :(

Favorite food for camping? I'm a fan of roasting potatoes over a fire. I'll be camping with several very tolerant omnivores and I wouldn't mind having something I can share with them. I don't own a dutch oven and I'd rather not spend money on overly elaborate camp gear, but simple stuff is good.

Double Yum

Just so you know, Stonyfield Farm organic, nonfat Chocolate Underground yogurt over fresh cut strawberries is just about the best snack EVER! Especially when it is about 90 degrees.
