Delhi knows that it could have been Delhi. But that isnt stopping everyone here from feeling heartsick, furious, and completely, completely helpless about what is still going on in Bombay.
The problem isnt that it is still going on. The problem is as to why it was allowed to happen, and who is responsible for that. There have been no statements from the Powers That Be yet - a curious reticence, which the media is interpreting as solidarity. I think they're just waiting for someone else to shoot his mouth off and then agree/disagree/rant/rave/blame. We looked at America somewhat smugly when 9/11 happened, and said that we were old hands at this, that India's been living with terrorism since before America even heard of the term - how? For all we know, the Union Home Minister is off changing his clothes. He does that quite competently.
We have State Government elections tomorrow. I know who I'm voting for, and for what reasons. Neither political alternative has any concrete plans of making this a safer city to live in - and Delhi has far worse security and civic-sense problems when it comes to things like this. There's a hush over this city - television sets arent being switched off, and there is a growing impatience with what the news channels arent saying.
And the picture of the alleged terrorist in the Versace sweatshirt. FUCKING SCARY.
Do you think you know me? This is the problem with LJ, we all think we are so close
(I'm not sure this is always the case, but I'll roll with it), and we know nothing about each other. I'm going to rectify it. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.
Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.
While browsing the One Ring.NetI thought this was tremendously exciting, and completely unlooked for. Plus, it looks really, really good. A group of independent filmmakers are making a prequel to the Fellowship of the Ring, called The Hunt For Gollum. It is collaborative, non-profit and will be available online for free download in December 2008. As far as I can make out, it features Aragorn, another Ranger, Gollum and Arwen. The production stills look, like, WHOA.
There is another fan film in the making focusing on the story of the Dunedain, and Arathorn and Gilraen in particular called Born of Hope
I've been thinking Tolkien, and daydreaming Celeborn. I've wanted to write, except there were no words when I tried to, for a long, long time. This isnt much, by any standards. Just a brief poke of the toe into what was a very long-ago and very cherished part of my writerly life. The plot bunnies are there - this is nice to know. :)
My thanks to bejai_oakwise, who's excellent Deific Flame, read after many months, began the journey all over again.
I wonder if there is anyone there who remains to read? Featuring Galadriel, Elrond, Celebrian and Elu, in Valinor.

You are a mystery, a jack-of-all-trades. You have the king's ear, but also listen to murmurings of the common folk. You believe in the value of force and also literature. Truly you are the puzzlement of the age.
I think it has been because I havent wanted to write for the last year and a half. Or that I havent had the time to read half as much as I should have. Or that the degree, the institution, the arangetram, the internships, the fretting about future plans and general lack of willingness to move a limb when getting an hour at home to lounge without having to clean the desk, bookshelf and cupboard all contribute. I miss the flist.
