FAVORITE QUOTES

I sometimes find that taking a quote from the Jumper universe and using it in a different content helps me with new plot narratives.

Here's the entry where we can share our favorite quotes from any of the Jumper universe narratives (films, video game, Griffin and David's stories, the graphic novel etc.). I'll be adding more over time, so feel free to leave yours in the comments and I'll add them!

HELPFUL PROMPTS

We're always looking for new plot bunnies as muses to inspire us to create more content. I've found that prompts and topic ideas are useful in sometimes prodding me into expanding the ways in which I write, or simply give me a suggestion for something.

Feel free to add you own under comments, and I will add them to this list!

The following includes some of the many prompts out there to get new ideas rolling!

CHARACTER CREATION SHEET

As a long time fandom writer, over the years I developed a document that helps me keep track of a character and how I envision them for a specific fic piece. Even within one fandom like Jumper, I often change how I perceive and play with characters and it's important to me to keep track of details.

This can be copied and pasted and then add in spaces to your liking. I fill out one document per character in each narrative I have in mind even before I begin writing.

**I see some disparity between the timeline in the Griffin’s Story video game, and Griffin’s story the novel, specifically about the death of the two Paladins who Griffin kills for revenge, as one is supposed to be Mary Rice. If anyone has played the game and can help out, please do so!

FAQ: MARY RICE

5'5, changing hair colour and style.

She was born in Cape Connecticut as Mary Drake, daughter of Jillian & Frederick Drake (deceased). Her birthday is October 2nd, 1965. [Jumpstart: David's Story].

Mother to David Rice and wife of William Rice. She abandons the family when David is 5. She took him to the Empire State Building as a child.

David does not see her again until he is in jail in Rome, and she suddenly arrives and helps him escape. She does not answer any questions and quickly disappears after giving instructions.

Photograph and drawings of Mary appear in Griffin’s files, and David is startled when he sees her photograph posted on Griffin’s wall and takes it.

Mary is possibly Jessica, the young woman trained by Roland at the age of 18. Across 20 years, she has tracked and killed many Jumpers, including her lover Andrew who was a secret Jumper. She is given the task of hunting David Rice who is 15, and decides she will monitor him instead of immediately killing him [Jumper: Jumpscars graphic novel]

David tracks Mary down once he has fought Roland. A young woman named Sophie answers and calls for her mother when David asks for Mary. Mary confirms she is a Paladin, and that she left David at 5 in order to protect him. When questioned, Mary states she will give David a head start before pursuing him. In the film, she is last seen at her home as David leaves.

Mary Rice is one of the two people who killed Griffin’s parents. Griffin kills them both (the other being Kemp) in Tokyo and a high ranked Paladin he later fights states that David knows the female Paladin responsible - implying it is Mary [Griffin’s Story videogame].

FAQ: MILLIE HARRIS

5’5, mahogany and chestnut streaked hair, dark brown eyes

Childhood friend of David, who had a crush on her starting at age 5 and into his teens before he moved to NYC. While as a youth she had planned to leave Ann Arbor and see the world, at 20 she is still living in the same city and works at a sports bar near the university. She has her own apartment at 260 Warton Street, and her mother still is alive.

David reappears in her life when she is 20, after he shows up at the sports bar and gets into a fight with Mark, a bully from their youth. After the fight, he invites her to leave with him for Rome. Upon arrival, they check into a top star hotel with a luxury suite. They have sex for the first time. For their first date in Rome, she is taken by David to the Colosseum where they break in. After he is arrested, she waits at the police station until he jumps free and escorts her to the airport, where he leaves her to fly home alone.

Most of the time she is in a state of confusion about what is happening with David.

In the process of saving her from Roland, David eventually reveals he is a Jumper to her, and she gets saved by David (and Griffin).

Griffin has no qualms about her dying as a result of him attacking the Paladins with a bomb while they have her hostage.

She meets David’s mother Mary when David visits her, and was last seen leaving and jumping away with David.

FAQ: ROLAND COX

6'2, strange white short hair

Roland Cox is a key veteran Paladin and a leader in the organization with his own team group.

He was raised and trained by his father who was also a Paladin. As a married father himself, he is training his son into Paladin culture.

Roland is highly intuitive about sensing Jumpers and where they might appear. He does not hesitate in killing Jumpers, regardless of their age or situation.

Even Paladins are scared of him.

Acutely paranoid about all Jumpers and believes there are none that should be left alive.

Confrontations with Roland result in death. He has no qualms about kidnapping, torturing, holding hostage and murdering family and friends of Jumpers in order to flush Jumpers. David and Griffin appear to be the only people who have survived a fight with Roland. Assumed to have killed William Rice.

As an older and experienced, he trains new recruits, including Jessica (who may be Mary).

FAQ: PALADINS

Paladins are religious zealots who believe Jumpers go again God’s plans and tear the very nature of reality. They have hunted Jumpers for thousands of years, and were trained and supported by monks from Nepal. Paladins are members of a very powerful and secret order. They are recruited in a variety of ways, then trained by more experienced Paladins on how to effectively track and hunt Jumpers.

Paladins are constantly tested to ensure they do not begin to feel empathy for Jumpers. Paladins can be trained to sense nearby locations of jumpers, but have more difficulty in fine tuning exact locations. When a jumper jumps, this allows Paladins to determine their location. Paladins have to develop through training the ability to sense jumps though Paladins vary in their sensitivity to sensing jumps. Griffin calls the ones with high sensitivity “Sensitives.”

Paladins exist in cells around the world, and typically travel in groups of three, each with an experienced leader. There is a hierarchy of Paladins - not all are equal. Seniority, experience and sensitivity to Jumpers come into play.

In their obsession, Paladins will use, threaten and kill the families and friends of Jumpers.

Paladins don’t require proof or evidence of a person being a Jumper.

They constantly change identities in order to preserve their secrets and not make any one Paladin known to Jumpers. At one Paladin location, Roland has a room of outfits and identification he uses when tracking Jumpers.

Roland is known to both David and Griffin as he has interacted with them at various points in their lives.

The CIA also have files on the Paladins.

FAQ: PALADIN TECHNOLOGY

Paladins have developed numerous new technologies over the centuries to aid them in finding Jumpers, following them through jumpscars and to immobilize them.

The cabling technology to follow Jumpers through jumpscars was stolen by the Paladins in Toyko.

Tether weapons send a huge electric charge against a Jumper, preventing them from jumping and causing acute pain. They are special anti-jumper harpoon guns designed to latch on to a target and keep them where they are.

Electrified nets also are used to restrain and take down Jumpers.

Shock sticks are held directly against the skin and electrocute.
