uglystar7 asked:

How did you learn blending and color theory?

turtle-brownie answered:

for blending, it was honestly just from doing a whole lot of studies, especially from photos, and it just sort of ‘clicked’ for me. It’s also to do with the brushes you use, I like using 'softer’ brushes that blend a lot smoother (all my brushes are here).

colour theory is a tricky one, I’d argue that I don’t even fully understand it yet. My main advice about it, is to stop using the standard painter’s colour theory predominantly taught in art classes (RYB) for blending & colour mixing, and learn the colour theory relevant to digital art (CMYK)

If you try to apply colour theory rules from traditional paint to digital art, you’ll find that in digital art, mixing for example yellow and blue does not make green, but instead makes a gross grey-ish colour.

I suggest using RYB for picking colour palettes and schemes, and using CMYK when it comes to the rendering and painting process.

I hope this is helpful!!
