I am a serial fangirl. Many would call me a geek. But I'm a nice one. I have several celebrity boyfriends ranging through the three Davids (Tennant, Thewlis and Duchovny), through to James Purefoy and my most recent obsession, Kit Harrington. I've written fanfic in various guises over the years for X-Files, ER, HP, Doctor Who and ASOIAF/A Game of Thrones, but whether I'm any good at this little hobby is entirely subjective.
Other than that... what can I tell you? I teach kids how to spell, write stories and read big famous books, and they will no doubt tell you that I'm a staunch campaigner for the proper use of the English language, fond of using big words when smaller ones will do, very sarcastic, and am Firm But Fair. Other people who know me may tell you that I have expensive taste, that I have a Monty Python sense of humour, and that I'm basically quiet but quite good at acting loud. But, I will tell you that I'm short, blonde and fatter than I want to be (which is basically down to my tendency to laze around reading or writing when I should be running or doing something a little more energetic), that teaching keeps me on my toes, and that I like the word 'singularity', but have no idea why.
Other slightly interesting information about me includes the facts that I never have enough money and feel quite strongly that I could do rich with considerable more grace and finesse than, say, Paris Hilton, that I drive faster than I ought to, and that I like whisky. Given a thousand pounds, I'd spend it on handbags, which is tragic, I know. Music and books are important to me and I've read a startling range of things from Beowulf (in the original AS) and Bleak House to Catch-22 and The Diary of Bridget Jones. I can cook quite well, but won't eat chicken; as a result I've considered being vegetarian, but realised that I couldn't possibly give up bacon sandwiches. I like peace and quiet and my own company more than is probably healthy for me. I've been told I'm weird... and if you've bothered to read this, you'll probably agree!
Most of my day to day posts are f-locked (owing to my job and the necessity to keep persistent teenage noses out), but if you would like to friend me, go ahead. I don't normally bite. However, if you are just interested in my fics and do not want to be bored with my talk of teaching, my fandom geekery and general whining about the rest of the world, then you might be better friending my fic journal, which can be found at joelywrites.
