I Am A Gamer II
So, there I am, running a nice little D&D campaign. I begin to become perplexed when I realize that the topic of conversation, whenever we are not directly in the thick of things, veers off to a particular online role-playing-game. This causes a certain amount of dismay because I have seen many people in my hobby of "pen & paper" gaming disappear from that scene once they begin playing online RPGs, and I don't want my group to fizzle out.
But this game, "World of Warcraft" is from a publisher that has made some of my favorite games. My friends are very enthusiastic about it. And, from what they tell me, there is more to this game than being mistreated by jerks who have been in the game longer or waiting for hours on end for a particular "boss" to "spawn" so you can kill it with a group of strangers, which is what this kind of game was about the last time I tried one. So eventually I gave it a shot.
I found that "WoW" is a tremendously fun game. Like any video game, it has spots where it drags a little, and there are particular aspects I could live without. Some things are still missing: I have a sharply limited ability to improvise and there's really no chance to do dialogue in character or talk my way out of scrapes. But the "quests" and "dungeons"- the stuff you do in the game- are enjoyable because of a lot of little factors it would be tedious to explain in detail.
