it's informative talking to Ninja
I was talking to Greg from Kageyama on Monday after showing up a week early for the resuming of jitsu classes.
Taking advantage of a dojo with no one to see what I was doing, I decided to finally give rolling with a bokken a try. It presents one with difficulties that are not expected. I'm sure I looked extremely awkward :P
anyway, I was training with the bokken doing various strikes etc and I also tried to look at my positioning when entering for a throw (shadow jitsu beats shadow boxing any day) and I couldn't help but feel that a lot of my positioning when entering for various throws felt a lot like my positioning when I was doing bokken exercises.
So I asked Greg about that. After a long and extremely illuminating conversation, he directed me to search the term "namba-aruki". Check it out, there's too many links to post here, but a simple google search will yield some very interesting articles about the foundation of why we move the way we move in jitsu.
