The Jersey City Times was founded on October 15, 2019, by local resident Aaron Morrill to provide reliable and informative news focused solely on Jersey City. It is dedicated to uncompromising, high-quality, in-depth coverage of Jersey City’s people, neighborhoods, politics, schools, businesses, culture, and cuisine.
Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Aaron Morrill is an attorney, writer, businessman and musician. During his legal career, Aaron worked as a prosecutor, commercial litigator and criminal defense attorney. His writing has been published in the New York Times and The Jersey Journal. @AaronMorrill
Advisory Board Member Elizabeth Morrill has worked in business, not for profit fundraising and as a freelance copy editor. She holds degrees in American studies and education from Yale and Harvard.
Advisory Board Member Bill Armbruster is a retired journalist and an active community leader. He spent most of his career with The Journal of Commerce, where he held various reporting and editing positions from 1979 to 2003, including maritime editor, world trade editor, special sections editor and senior correspondent.
Advisory Board Member Carly Berwick has worked as an editor for The Week, ARTnews, and Metropolitan Books. A former columnist for Bloomberg News and The New York Sun, she also has reported on education for TheAtlantic.com, Edutopia, and Next City and on culture for The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, New York, Travel and Leisure, and Conde Nast Traveler, among other outlets. She also teaches writing and journalism to high school and college students.
Advisory Board Member Daniel Levin was associate publisher of the Jersey City Independent. Levin is a businessman and a lifelong activist in Jersey City politics.
Advisory Board Member Theta Pavis has worked as a daily newspaper reporter, media consultant and magazine editor; she holds degrees from UCLA and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She is the Director of Student Media at NJCU and has also taught at UCLA, Kean University, Saint Peter’s University and Hudson County Community College.
Adviory Board Member Helene Stapinski is the author of three memoirs, Murder in Matera, Baby Plays Around and the bestselling Five-Finger Discount: A Crooked Family History, which was made into a documentary for Public Television, which she helped write and produce. Her latest book, The American Way: A True Story of Nazi Escape, Superman and Marilyn Monroe was released last year by Simon & Schuster, based on a story she wrote for The New York Times. She’s a regular contributor to the Times’ Op-Ed, Book Review, Dining, Weekend, Travel and Metropolitan sections, where she wrote the Works in Progress column for two years. Stapinski teaches journalism at her alma mater, New York University.
