Being ace and hot is a nightmare sometimes, I met this guy in my neighborhood, we live literally 200m away from each other, he's funny and witty and a genuine delight to talk to, and YESTERDAY he makes it clear he's flirting so now I'm trying to figure out how to turn him down and also throw my single friends at him because he really is a great catch, but I don't eat fish so he's wasted on me.

So now I have to figure out how to say 'I think, based on your tastes, I have some girlfriends you might like and they'd love to take you home, doggy walking same time next week?' in human speak.

alexaloraetheris

Task failed abysmally, I'm having a threesome on Tuesday. My job is to look pretty and hand over the props.

alexaloraetheris

That was fun, amd I learned some things about myself! Namely that I would make an excellent scantly-clad servant bowing to a sadistic evil queen. 10/10 would do it again.

Please stop reblogging this, if it ends up on Tiktok some teenybopper is gonna call me bad ace representation.

this is an incredible renaissance painting

birdsareblooming

BAROQUE PAINTING YOU MEAN A BAROQUE PAINTING I AM SO FUCKING TIRED.

image

RENAISSANCE IS COMPOSED IN A TRIANGLE, IS LOW CONTRAST AND BRIGHT COLORS. EVEN BATTLE SCENES ARE SHOWN BRIGHTLY

image
image

BAROQUE HAS HIGHER CONTRAST AND DARKER TONES, THE POSES ARE IMPROVED POST-THE RENAISSANCE GREATS AND ARE MORE DRAMATIC, THE TONE IS SOMBER AND THE ACTION HEIGHTENED.

image
image

DESPITE THE COLOR OF THE PHOTOGRAPH, THE LINE COMPOSITION AND DRAMATIC POSING MUCH MORE RESEMBLES A BAROQUE PIECE, BUT IF WE'RE PARROTING A MEME IT DOESNT MATTER THIS SHIT ONLY MATTERS TO ART MAJORS RIGHT? WELL YES IT DOES. BUT NOT FOR LONG.

THE CABINETS. ONE OF THESE CONTAINS A BOMB. FIND IT, OR ELSE DASHCON 2 WILL DIE. YOU HAVE 60 SECONDS. AND EVERY TIME YOU OPEN UP A CASE, YOU GET FIVE MORE SECONDS. BUT IF YOU FIND A PUZZLE INSIDE OF EACH DIFFERENT ONE, AND SOLVE IT, YOU GET EXTRA MINUTES. HOWEVER, IF YOU CAN'T SOLVE THE PUZZLE, WELL THEN, YOU'RE JUST WASTING VALUABLE TIME, AREN'T YOU.

LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RENAISSANCE COMPOSITION VS BAROQUE OR EVEN NEOCLASSICISM COMPOSITION BEFORE SPEAKING AGAIN. GET TO STUDYING.

I want you to know that I did have the thought “this is definitely not accurate to call this a renaissance painting” however a meme is a meme my friend

the key idea of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is that "thoughts cause feelings" but upon reflecting on it, I realized that all the successful skills I developed for emotional regulation and coping assume the exact opposite: that feelings cause thoughts

My reason for my opinion is practical: "Thoughts cause feelings" made my situation worse, whereas "feelings cause thoughts" allowed me to make a huge amount of progress.

The cognitive behavioral therapy workbook says that people have "automatic thoughts" like "I am a failure" "this is awful" "this is terrifying" that cause them to feel negative emotions, but closely observing my own mind, I realized that these types of thoughts emerged when there was something wrong physiologically.

For example, when I was trying to do something difficult while hungry, I would have very angry and hateful thoughts and would be saying to myself, "This is terrible! I hate this! I fail at everything I try to do!" When I was tired and overstimulated, I would be more likely to have thoughts like "This sucks...I need to get out of here...I hate this place..."

I have found that these "negative thoughts" are shockingly reliable indicators of when my body needs something, whether a break, a snack, some quiet time, something fun to do, a shower, a walk, or something else. I got to the point where if i was doing something and I got to the point where i was thinking "I fail at everything I try to do!" I would stop and evaluate my emotional state. What feeling was the thought expressing?

I found it incredibly helpful to do the opposite of what the cognitive behavioral therapy book suggests and sink down into the pre-verbal level of the thought, exploring how it felt in my body, to learn what animal-self instinct it was coming from.

What did my animal-self want to do? Bite? Run? Hide? Burrow into a dark, enclosed den? Find something to eat? Roam? Play? I understood emotions to ultimately be instincts that promoted survival behaviors.

If the Animal-self feels angry and wants to lash out and bitebitebitebite, that means Animal-self is in a state where aggressive behavior is more likely. The survival purpose of aggressive behavior in an animal could be to defend territory, to protect resources, or to assert oneself against dominance behaviors by conspecifics.

Therefore, to cope with the angry emotion, I ensure that my survival needs are met and engage in an appropriate survival behavior: eat (so Animal-self feels more secure in terms of resources) go for a walk (so Animal-self has plenty of space and feels less trapped) take some alone time (so Animal-self feels that she can defend her own territory) complain to a friend (so the tension of intraspecific aggression and dominance displays is defused)

This has helped me SO much more than the cognitive behavioral stuff ever did.

I think Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has a really good application when you are trying to overcome negative messages that other people or the world have told you, for example if you have a habit of thinking to yourself "i am so ugly" it would help to change your thinking and tell yourself things like "I don't have to be beautiful to have value."

I think it would also work if you got in the habit of using negative thoughts to punish yourself? Like if you were afraid of failure so you started telling yourself things like "I am so lazy, I will never succeed at anything" because you felt that you needed punishment in order to motivate yourself to try harder, or if you felt you needed to rationalize why you don't try so you don't get exposed to failure.

And definitely there are some manifestations of anxiety that it would be helpful for?

But I think it is not good to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as the basic generic therapy

CBT was incredibly helpful for me dealing with PTSD from abuse. It did fuck all for my depression. A wonderful therapy that absolutely has a specific use case and is not helpful outside of that use case.

the really crazy thing about cooking is that once you practice it enough (for all the gamers reading this: "grind enough exp") your threshold for wuat counts as a low effort / depression / I Dont Really Want To Cook meal rises steadily and you can feel yourself becoming the kind of person whose "chill dinner" takes 1h45 and involves three pans

ok but how do I get there from "assembling a sandwich is too much work"

silverjirachi

As someone who went through this and struggles with chronic pain and fatigue, add 1 thing semi regularly. And I do mean just 1 thing.

When I first moved out most my meals were instant ramen. Then I started adding 1 egg to that ramen to get a little protein in. In a couple months, 1 egg became two. Then it was 2 eggs and 1 chopped green onion. Then a couple months later I was adding carrots and other vegetables. In about two years I was able to skip the instant ramen part altogether and now use chicken broth and noodles and I’m basically making a ramenesque soup from scratch when I’m craving ramen. It took 2+ years total of just gradually, one at a time, adding one ingredient. Over a period of months/weeks.

Start with where you’re able. If a sandwich is too much, maybe try just a piece of bread and some meat or cheese. Focus on where you can be gradually introducing more nutrients into your body. 1 slice of deli meat. A couple weeks later, that plus 1 slice of cheese. Then 1 vegetable. Maybe they don’t all make it into sandwich form and that’s ok. But if you keep what’s the most basic and simple for yourself and slowly add 1 thing that’s not too much of a hassle, over a couple months you might start toasting the bread before putting cheese and meat on it. Then one day there’s more vegetables. Years down the line you might find yourself owning a panini press or slicing your own bread.

Most of us will never be gourmet chefs and that shouldn’t be the goal. You might not ever get to the point where you own a panini press. But the more important thing is that you’re finding ways that work, for you, gradually, in order to make your meals more nutritious. The expectation to cook a full, unique meal every night for dinner is a relatively new phenomenon and completely unrealistic for most people. Having the same 3 things you can make consistently and keep on rotation is plenty fine, especially if you get to the point where you can mix it up a little bit by adding ingredients in the method stated above. Feeding yourself should be the #1 goal, getting more nutrients in #2, and stepping it up to the next level #3 when you have the capacity to. Like with a lot of things, it’s really just about consistency. Start with where you can be consistent. If that’s 1 meal a week you cook yourself and the rest is hot pockets, but you can do that 1 meal consistently, then that’s where you start. Then when you have that down, maybe try two (of the same) meals a week, or ask what you can add to your hot pocket to make it a little better for you. (Some vegetables on the side for instance).

Don’t try to jump in from 0 to full course meal all at once or you’ll overwhelm yourself. Building a meal outward from bread and butter over a period of weeks is incredibly possible. No two peoples’ timelines will be the same, but it is entirely possible and that success will look different for everyone, and that’s also ok. As long as you’re feeding yourself, that’s what’s most important.

this is so helpful. too many times when I ask how to do something, people tell me to "just do it" like I'm supposed to already know what steps to take. and I almost never know what steps to take. someone actually telling me is so refreshing

I love the duality in the way you draw yourself mr teaboot. it's like, something something internal self-image vs external self-image?? I dunno, I'm just enamored by the :3 little cartoonboot and then the ABSOLUTELY SICKAWESOME SEMI-REALISTIC TEABOOT THAT APPEARS SOMETIMES LIKE???!? HELLO??

Sketch on lined paper. A semi-realistic depiction of Teaboot as a man in a baseball cap and face mask sits casually next to Doodleboot, who is drinking a juice box. They exchange a cool fist bumpALT

We appreciate your kindness and support! :D Doodleboot has become sort of an entity in and of himself at this point tbh, but I DO love how he’s helped me journal and reframe my view of my life n stuff.

+sometimes it’s easier to be nicer to yourself if you imagine you’re being nice to a little guy in your brain instead :3

personally the lattice method of multiplication is the reason i hate math

snowylynxx

youre telling me that i can make some boxes with lines through them

image

solve the multiplication equation for each pair of individual digits and arrange them in the boxes just so

image

AND THEN ADD UP ALL THE NUMBERS IN EACH COLUMN AND GET THE RIGHT ANSWER????

image
image
snowylynxx

this post taught me that not everyone learned the lattice method in elementary school

wall-maria-around-ba-sing-se

In grade school we learned the normal way to do multiplication one day and then the lattice way the next, except I was sick the day we learned the normal way and they never went back and reviewed it and neither did I and so to this day I only know how to use the lattice method

....What the ever loving fuck, this is really cool???? I have NEVER heard of this???

I swear the jump from the first to the second image is basically that "draw the owl" meme.

ruffboi-mags

Yeah it took me a while to figure it out, but I DID! So for me and you and everyone else going “wait wtf just happened????” I present a more step by step breakdown!

image

So you start with a grid with as many squares as needed to write one number across the top and one number down the side. And draw these diagonal lines through them. Yes you should extend them out the side.

THEN you basically multiply the numbers that match with each square, put the tens digit in the top triangle and the ones digit in the bottom triangle. Like so:

image
image
image

so once you’ve done that, you start adding up the numbers in the DIAGONAL column/row thingies from the bottom right up to the top left, like so:

image
image
image

You only want one digit (tho I assume if the very top/last row somehow gets 2 digits that’s ok, but ONLY in that position) and you’ll carry over to the next column, like if you were adding normally.

Then you start at the top left and just take all the numbers going down and around and put them together!

image
image

It does take up a lot more space and has a few more steps than the more traditional long multiplication, I think, but for people who struggle with that I think this would be a handy tool!

Here’s a screenshot of the more traditional style to compare:

image

I hope this helps! I had to figure it out on my own bc I was never taught this either. :)

Huh. I'll be damned. Reblogging so I'll hopefully remember how to do it.

I learned this way in school and switched to a school that taught the traditional way the next year and all the kids thought I was a witch

“That’s why it’s hard to make friends when you’re older,” she said. “Friendship is rude.”

Her friend’s eyes widened. “What?”

“Think about it! When we’re kids we decide who we like and stick by them no matter what. As adults, we’re taught to be polite.

But, friendship is an imposition— at least, I want it to be. Call me after nine o’clock. Don’t think you’ll ever wear out your welcome. Overshare, show up at my door, go to the grocery store with me so we can waste another hour chatting.

We’ll never be friends if we spend all of our energy trying not to bother each other.”

islamophobia must be rejected and fought against as soon as you see it. start seeing muslims as people.

"oh i don't agree with muslims and they are kinda backwards dirty savages but i still support-" no. try again.

day by day it's getting real dire for us and actual support is needed.

rhubarbspring

because politicians in almost every continent are inciting violence against muslims or touting hatred against us, spreading anti-islam propaganda. resulting in lynching, beaten in the streets, fired from jobs, seen as pariahs, excluded from society

like what are we even doing. what must be done for this to be treated as an urgent matter

What's the word for the fallacy or cognitive blindspot of just kind of forgetting that a cameraman exists? Like, you see a video online and you take it as an unmediated representation of reality and forget that there's someone there recording it? E.g., seeing a video of an ill-tempered child pitching a tantrum over a Christmas present and you leap to thinking that they're just very naughty without remembering that their parent is literally there publicly humiliating them for clicks.

I think that a lot of of our media is just kind of structured around this elision of "the cameraman", broadly defined. Like how many hundreds of hours of footage do they take for reality TV and what makes it into the final cut and why? The editor's not neutral; they're making decisions. What stories make it onto the news? What posts does the algorithm deign to show you? Our lives have never been as mediated as they are now, and yet this mediation is largely invisible.
