the situation with harry potter is kind of unprecedented in some ways imo because it is maybe the largest media franchise in history to be created & owned by a single person who still has direct creative control over it. who is also a billionaire with significant cultural/political influence. like the usual “no ethical consumption under capitalism” type excuses shatter on impact when the bigoted author in question is logging onto twitter every day saying explicitly that when you buy the tim hortons ravenclaw donut she is using your donut money to fund the genocide of trans people. like with big franchises usually there’s at least a little more diffusion of responsibility than this
quick question what is mountain dew and why is it banned in europe

Literal definition of spyware:
Also From Microsoft’s own FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers. 🤡

Also here is how to turn off the awful search suggestions:incase anyone didnt know there’s some great free software to handle disabling windows bloatware without needing to mess with the command line
these are a mandatory part of every windows install for me. been using them for years and it’s such a lifesaver
Because this has mostly been talked about with Windows 11, heads-up that this installed itself on every Windows 10 computer in our house with this week’s update.
Mm, yeah, time for my periodic reblog.
If you havent turned off your “built in spyware” and “computer file search bar doesnt search the computer files first” ‘features’, now is the time to do so. It really is just a couple clicks even for people who don’t really get how it works.
it’s not that they would rather do that it’s that they are actively and openly planning to do that ☝️☺️
They aren’t just refusing to stop doing the things that are most actively causing the climate issues endangering us, they are quadrupling down on them, rushing us ever faster towards environmental catastrophe that will disproportionally affect the people that they are also simultaneously making poorer, while working their asses off to automate as much shit as they can… as if in preparation for suddenly having fewer people to do needed tasks. Which could mean nothing.
The Earth has PLENTY to support all of us, IF we stop with the mindless capitalistic consumerism mindset. Money is just something we made up, why are we 1.) letting people hoard it and 2.) letting the pursuit of hoarding it destroy everything beautiful in the world?
I don’t like the U.S. military or their recruitment tactics but I feel very uncomfortable pretending that I’m morally superior to people who join, given the privileges I’ve had. Like am I supposed to pretend that my white ass who’s had six years of higher education paid for by parents who have always made well into six figures am an anti-imperialist queen meanwhile the students who I have worked with who are first and second gen immigrants of color are the greatest evils in the United States? I guess privilege is the experience of keeping your hands clean
“privilege is the experience of keeping your hands clean”
People who join the military ≠ The Military™️, and the sooner people learn that distinction, the sooner we can get to having some real, constructive conversations about military imperialism.
Likewise, citizens of a nation ≠ that nation’s government.
Yes, the military and government are made up of people. And yes, propaganda exists and sways popular opinions. But the decisions are being made by a small few and are very, very often not indicative of the views of the majority of The People. Regardless of what the propaganda says.
And while privilege 100% exists, and we need to be aware of what privileges we benefit from, you can still not like the military and try to discourage people from joining it, AND understand that some folks see it as the best (if not only) option available to them and/or their family to simply survive.
Militarism sucks, in large part, because it purposefully sets itself up as the best option for survival specifically for poor, disadvantaged people.
