I joined this community just so that I could write this open letter, because I need to vent my outrage at Jack Thompson after the comments he left about that poor soul who committed suicide (see post below me). Most of his comments were deleted, but you can read
this letter that he sent to the site that Mitchell S. was a member of.
Jack Thompson, you are the Joseph McCarthy of our time, and so I must echo the words of of Joseph Welch when he asked Senator McCarthy when I say to you, Jack Thompson, "You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"
This wasn't about video games in the least bit, and in the most cowardly fashion possible, you turned a personal tragedy into a chance for you to grandstand. This has nothing to do with video games. People committed suicide before video games were invented, and there will always be people who will lose hope and try to take their lives, but this is not the time for you to push your agenda. A young man has died. Do you fathom that at all Mr. Thompson? A young man has died, and if it were your son who had taken his own life, would you want people using this as a chance to mock you? A young man suffered and died, and his loved ones did all they could to save him, and all you can do is gloat?
Have you no shame?
I hope you never have to endure the intense pain of losing someone dear to you to suicide like Mitchell's family and friends have. This boy was suffering, he was sick, and saying such heartless things only furthers the myth that people who commit suicide are somehow cowards. You call yourself a Christian Mr. Thompson, and to that I must say "Physician, heal thyself!" Correct your own egotistical ways, your complete disrespect for the lives of other people, your intolerance to human dignity before you chastise people during a time of grief. "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy". You're a Christian man Jack, so start acting like one.
I hope God has mercy on your soul Jack Thompson.
