i've been watching and thinking about horror movies a lot lately, so here are some of my thoughts on them. for one, i'm obsessed with may 2002. it's a beautiful depiction of what loneliness, isolation, and ostracization do to a person. may is such a sympathetic killer. she's been isolated and rejected her whole life, her seeking to create the perfect companion is so understandable. the final scene absolutely gutted me. i highly recommend this film.

house of wax 2005 is also a recent favorite of mine! there's just something about the themes of siblinghood and complex bonds that do it for me. and speaking of, i've been pondering on an incestuous reading of the film. bo and vincent are the first pair i really can see as incestuous. this would further bo's abuse of vincent, solidifying him as the one with power. but i also see nick and carly and incestuous.

a lot of people point out that nick and carly have an absurd amount of sexual tension, which is true. why not take it a step further? i can imagine both of them initiating for different reasons. mainly, their "good twin" and "bad twin" dynamic. maybe nick paints himself as the bad twin for going through the incest or being the one behind it. though i prefer nick being the abuser, because of the scene between vincent and carly during the end, where she tells him to leave bo. maybe she's saying that to herself too. i'm considering writing some fics about these dynamics, but i'm worried about harassment..
