Really good gameplay idea, very minimalist but interesting strategically. IMO it has potential for a full game. That's the kind of game that sells on steam (simple roguelite strategy game).

The art is great, I love the small characters walking between the towns. Music is very good too.

The only major downside is balancing. On my third run I stopped playing not because I lost but because I was producing thousands of resources each turn and had 20 times the required resources when a new "quest" begin.

Minor problems:

  • The UI for combos is a bit confusing, the white circle should be on the boosted locations, not on the location that was just bought
  • The camera moves very slowly vertically
  • wasd/arrows to control the camera would have been nice

Glad you like the level design! I used this jam to practice it.

The artstyle is very unique and cool. The musics is nice. The game could have been a bit more juicy, though. For example there is no landing feedback, and the character has no animation. But the game looks great nevertheless.

With this artstyle and music I expected a cozy gameplay, but it was pretty much the opposite. It felt very hard and frustrating. IMO it's due to a combination of having to move the character and the mask at the same time, the slippery character controller, the glitchy physics and the fact that the camera moving makes the mask move too. All of this at the same time is overwhelming. Maybe try the same mechanics with a fixed camera and a character with no (or less) inertia.

Here is my entry: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-15/rate/4312385

IMO the gameplay idea have potential, but the fact that the player can switch shape at will makes most obstacles pointless (doors, buttons, breakable walls etc.) as the player just has to switch to the right shape. No thinking required.

Easiest way to fix the gameplay would have been to switch shape when walking on something. With this and your already existing mechanics it would have been possible to design interesting puzzles.

Otherwise, visuals and audio are simple but work well together. And the flatland-inspired world fits the theme perfectly.

The animations are fully procedural. They are all mostly based on 2 scripts: a "tail" animator and a legs animator (based on unity's two bones IK), then the creature are moved using unity's SplineAnimator. There are also a few very simple rotations and translation tweening scripts.

Good visuals, audio, writing and "mood". The puzzles were a bit too easy to be interesting. Loosing from bad luck on the blackjack and having to restart the game was rough.

Well polished game, smooth gameplay. But it becomes repetitive quick. I expected a twist or story of some sort but it never came.

Sorry, a web version is not possible for this game. And no one in the team can test a linux build.

Great gameplay concept. Tooltips with the stats of the units would have helped to understand what's going on.

Yesterday when I clicked "start" nothing happened. Today the game is working.

Here is my entry (short walking simulator/photo) https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-15/rate/4312385

I like the strange visuals. The game fits the theme very well.

The minigames are quite fun but they have low replayability due to how basic they are, the game becomes repetitive fast. I played a similar entry with random minigames with a timer, and random variations, it helped make the game more fun because even if the minigames were very easy, solving them fast enough was not.

A bit short but fun. Good "mood".

Not sure what I am supposed to do. I drag and drop 3 units on their slots, then click start, and nothing happen.

I completed the game.

The mecanics and leveldesign are well made, the difficulty balanced. The minimalist art style and audio fit the game perfectly. Good polish.

Not a lot to critics to do, beside maybe that the main mechanic is not 100% intuitive. On the first levels I got confused several times about which color of the orb replace which (its exterior being replaced by interior but the shape of the "orb" doesn't really conveys it).

The gameplay is classic but the items and abilities are well designed and a bit different than what we are used to. There are several different possible strategies, which is great for a jam.

The balance of the game is ok too, not too hard not too easy. Although the boots that grants 2 switness are a must have, idk if it's possible to win without them.

The graphics are ok but the creatures, ui and background doesn't really fit together.

Also the dog main character doesn't really fits with the swords and armor it can equip.

I managed to reach the end of the game.

Great entry, especially for a first gam jam. The graphics and sounds are nice, and the puzzle well designed (although as always, a lot of people will get stuck on this kind of puzzle)

Congrats!

Interesting concept. It was a bit hard to understand how I was supposed to interact with the items but I eventually won.

This game is pure madness!

Great take on the theme.

The polish of the game is very good too on all aspects (graphics, gameplay, sound design, ambiance etc.).

Sorry that you got stuck (you are not supposed to go in the jellyfishes pond), there are invisible walls to prevent falling but I guess I missed a few spots. It's a shame because it's just before the best 2 scenes. (you can always restart and come back here in 2 minutes, though).

To get the objects in the frame each I check if every target's collider is inside the camera frustrum, then I use a raycast to check if nothing is blocking the view. (but this system is a bit glitchy and sometimes detects objects incorrectly)

Slay the spire clone in a one week jam is sick.

The game was fun to play although the bosses were a bit too hard. And their special power (skill cost +1, max 3 cards etc.) should be displayed the whole time they are active, not just for 1.5 second.

Hello,

We were very proud of our atmospheric walking simulator with photo mechanics, but we are getting very few ratings.

I will rate the games of the first 20 peoples who rates and comment mine.

The game:https://olivierguillaume.itch.io/mycelara (windows/mac)

The switch from 2D to 3D could have been fun if it was somehow connected in the gameplay or the story but here it felt a bit unnecessary, especially as the 3D levels needed more work (camera, controls, graphics...).

The 2D gameplay was fine, maybe a bit too easy.

If you lacked time it would have been better to focus on only one gameplay IMO.

The art of the game is REALLY good, it would have been perfect with a background and maybe some parallax.

Very good ambiance too.

The mechanic idea was good but the gameplay was a bit confusing, and during the platforming sections it was hard to know what was ground and what was not (with the snake especially).

The visuals are neat but the gameplay is confusing and possibly bugged.

After reading the instructions I was able to go to space and approach another planet.

But then I ended in an empty map next to a glichy blue rectangle, with a floating platform in the sky (maybe I was under the level IDK) and no ship.  I didn't understant what was happening and what I was supposed to do.

Thanks!

Your game was amazing!

I would appreciate if you rate mine as well, we have very few ratings right now.

It's a 5 to 10 minutes walking simulator (if you don't get stuck because there are a few glitchy parts at the beginning).

One of the best jam entries I played ever. It could be a paid game if it wasn't as short.

(spoilers incoming)

Only drawback is that the puzzles were not super intuitive. The QR code was too small to scan, I had to try several times, I started to think that it was fake. And the command lines error messages should have been "permission denied" and "unknown user" or somethething like that, so the player could understand that they were in the right track.

The end was a bit unsettling. Or maybe I missed an alternative ending and just got the bad one.

The mecanic has a lot of potential. The gameplay is well done considering how minimalist it is. A bit hard though.

I didn't understood the game at first, I had to read the game page to understand it.

I managed to finish the game but it was a bit frustrating/long as when I lost I didn't know why I (because otherwise I wouldn't have lost). Some of the anomalies were a bit too subtle.

The clock counter was a good idea, fitting both the gameplay and lore.

Great ambiance, nice endgame cutscene. Graphics could have been a bit more polished as there is only one scene (glitchy shadows etc.), but overall it looked ok.

Sorry that you got stuck. The game is not super intuitive and a bit glitchy.

(SPOILER)

For the crab you have to take a photo from very close, it will open a new path.

Another place where some people get stuck is just after the crab, when you are stuck you should turn back and you'll see a vine to climb.

Really good as a first game. The illustrations are great.

The visuals are super original and cool looking (although there are readability issues). Great take on the theme too. Extremely original.

On the bad side, the audio destroyed my ears, I had to put the volume to a minimum...

Nice idea! (we had pretty much the same one)

It becomes repetitive quick but otherwise it's enjoyable and decently polished, congrats!
