Nice little game. Very cute. I am curious to see the future upgrades of the cat cafe.

Developer

Thank you for playing, I will be posting a bug fix update either today or tomorrow.

Cats always works!

I like progression in the game, it's simple but somehow I manage to adopt all cats :D

Congratulations on your submission!

Developer

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it

Nice relaxing game!

I had a similar UI bug where the cafe was smaller in the top left and the menu items were on the bottom right.

Suggestions:

Make the Upgrade and Cafes button functional, at least to a level where it tells you the feature is not implemented so you know it's not a bug.

The customers should leave after some time.

The customers should increase the cat's comfort when interacting with them, unless it's a kid or something where it makes the cat need you to increase their comfort after interacting.

Customers should be able to adopt the cats from the cafe.  Maybe a bonus to adopt chance on receiving a cat interaction.

Periodically refresh cats available to bring in to the cafe.

Great work, I had fun!

Thank you so much for playing! I like a lot of those ideas, I'll look at implementing some of them.

Cute game! I usually don't play incremental games, but the frantic gameplay and quick progression kept me hooked until the end. I liked the art and especially the music, very relaxing. My only complaints are that font was hard to read, and the room only taking up the top-left corner looked awkward - having it fill the entire screen would've looked nicer.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I will look into fixing both of those issues in an upcoming patch. Were you playing the game on a computer or mobile? Asking to try and figure out the screen issues.

I was playing on a computer :D

Developer

Sounds good, I'll look into it, thanks you!

Hello, this is a very adorable game!! I Love It!!

Here is my feedback regarding it:

Positives:

  • Very relaxing soundtrack and sound effects! Just perfect for a cute ideal game!
  • Love the graphics, colors and everything!
  • Love this concept overall for an ideal game!

Some things which could improve in my opinion:

  • Some of the smaller text was harder to read in the UI as others are also saying, I think you could maybe either improve the contrast or/and change into a different font for small texts, the buttons and large ones could be kept the same!
  • I got a bit overwhelmed when I adopted too many cats lol, especially when going into the adoption menu as the game didn't pause (if this is intentional ignore this, but for an ideal game maybe it should not be that overwhelming, maybe there could be an upgrade to automate some of the stuff, but since it was a demo its all good and still a very nice experience)
  • I faced a bug where multiple customers got stuck near the checkout with each other and weren't able to move at all (check the image lol)

Anyway overall, very enjoyable and fun!! And adorable!! All the best with this project!!!

Thank you so much for trying it out! I appreciate all the feedback, I will be releasing a patch to actually fix most of these issues sometime in the next few days. A few people have mentioned the game not pausing while in the adoption menu. This was an intentional choice because I wanted the passive income and timers to continue while in that menu. Do you feel like automating some of the cat/customer actions would be enough to remove the stress from this? Also was 8 cats too many in the cafe in your opinion? The cat behavior right now is bugged so it might work better in future builds.

Submitted(+1)

Hello, yeah as an idle game, it makes sense. So I think leaving it unpaused is okay but later when the no of cats and customers start to become a bit more (like yeah 8 cats were a bit higher for me to handle but it could get even more difficult in later levels or when it gets even chaotic), you can add some kind of upgrade to automate some of the things, like keeping a helper person who goes to the checkout counter and accepts customers orders slowly, there can be another helper we can hire or purchase who can pet the cats periodically to help with that. And yes, doing this instead of pausing the game within adoption menu is way better in my opinion!

Developer(+1)

I will look into implementing those ideas in the future, thank you for your feedback.

This game is cute. I really enjoy cozy games, particularly when they let me play with cats. The cats meows were adorable and made me happy each time I heard one. I liked that the cats had different personalities and behaviors. The animations were cute; I particularly enjoyed watching them run and do what looked like a little jump.

A few things that stood out to me that I think could be improved.

The text is hard to read. The font itself isn't terrible, but the contrast and size makes some of it difficult to read. I feel like a darker text, instead of the white with an outline, would help make it easier to read. On a similar note, having a fullscreen option would be really nice. It would help make the text easier to read, and cats and humans easier to click on.

The cafe didn't take up the full viewport when my browser was at 100% zoom. There were grey bars at the side and bottom. The money was shown in the grey space at the right side and the cat names/level, adopt, upgrade, and cafes were in the bottom space. Adjusting my zoom adjusted how much of the viewport the cafe took up. I found playing the game at 70% zoom, which left a small grey bar on the side and the bottom grey mostly covered by the bottom panel, looked the best from a visual standpoint.

I think it would be nice if it was clearer which cat I had selected on the adoption page. Having something like a border around the selected cat would have helped.

I think it also would have been nice if there was a way you could look at info on the cats again after you had adopted them. You can see their level and name by mousing over them, but I think it would have been cool to be able to click on their name or something and see their personality and More Info, and maybe learn a little bit more about them as they level up.

The cat named Silver is called Velvet in the More Info about them. Their name is Silver when you mouse over them after you have adopted them.

The text about the customers went by faster than I could read it. It was pretty easy to figure out what I needed to do without reading it fully, but it would have been nice if it hadn't been so fast.

I had a customer at the counter, and another customer came over and looked like they were trying to push the first one out of the way. I then had two customers approach the counter at about the same time, and they got stuck pushing each other in different directions. The third customer came over and joined the pushing contest, as did the fourth when they arrived. The first time I played, they all just stayed stuck for the rest of the time I played. I played a second time, and tried timing when I would click on the customers at the counter to see if I could keep them from getting stuck on each other. I was actually having a fair bit of fun trying to keep them from getting stuck, and even when they did all get stuck together, they were able to keep inching around until one was facing the right direction to register and be clicked on.

The cafe level progression didn't fully make sense to me. Sometimes it felt like I was on one level for a while, and then I would jump several levels in a short time. Once the fourth customer arrived, the level didn't seem to be as important. Edit: As I was writing this, one of my teens committed that they thought the cafe level was based on the number of cats and their comfort levels. Doing a little bit of testing, I think they are right, but I'm not 100% sure. I think it would be good if you made the cafe level a little clearer.

I'm looking forward to seeing what all you're planning on adding to this. Upgrades and new cafe sound like fun. And of course petting all the cats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying the game out! I will try and address most of these concerns in the next patch coming soon. I have planned a stat system that will allow you to look at each cat's info again along with other stats. Cafe level is the cats comfort levels combined, I can try and make that more clear in the tutorial. Thanks so much for the feedback and trying the game out!

Game is cute!

Would try to make the cat icons go to the front, as right now, the icons go behind the customers

But yeps, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I will look into fixing the icons

Hello!
I like cats and I like cafes, so of course I had to test your game first ;)

I agree with another comment saying the game should have an easier-to-read font and a full screen option. I also think it would be nice to have a downloadable version later on.

About the game itself, I think the features currently here work fine. I couldn't do anything beside adopting new cat/collecting money but I guess it's because the game is still in development. To be noted though: for now, when we finish the demo, we can't try the game again, at least it doesn't work for me. I've reloaded the page and I am stuck on the Start/Quit menu which I can't interact with anymore.

For now the game involves mainly waiting and clicking on the cats. I suppose it is planned, but it would be nice to have more playability (aka more things to do inside the cafe) and a "twist": something that makes this game unique compared to other games of the same genre. I don't know what exactly, but maybe you already have an idea :)

Good luck for the future development!

Developer

Thank you for trying it out! I do have more features planned down the road to add more things to do in the cafe. I appreciate the feedback and will be working on adjusting the game based on that.

Hello nice game :)

The font is nice, but can be hard to read, especially in areas where the text is small. The text at the top center really stood out right away as an example of this. Adding an option to switch back to a basic font would be good for those who have trouble reading fancy ones. I'd also recommend adding a small margin to the left side of that top area so the text is not touching the border.

Another thing that can help with readability would be to allow going into fullscreen. As long as you have your Godot project settings set to enable scaling, it can handle the scaling work for you. Then you just need to check the box on Itch for it to add the button to go into fullscreen, without any extra code to handle fullscreen in the game. The project setting is under Display → Window → Stretch. For 2D pixel art games setting Mode to "canvas_items" usually works well. For checking a couple boxes you can get a nice little improvement. I tried using the browser zoom, but the UI elements and cafe scene did not scale. They stayed in their relative positions as the game viewport expanded.

Of course, if you do offer fullscreen, you need to keep in mind that the Esc key exits fullscreen in the browser. When offering browser games with fullscreen, and in general for browser games, it is good to add an alternative pause key, often "P".

I opened the Adopt screen, and again the font really feels harder to read than I think is good. The pink text on white background doesn't help. The larger size helps make the font more readable than if it was smaller, but it feels really big for the space it is in. The single line details are fine, but the "More Info" spanning multiple lines feels like there is so little text on a line that it impacts comprehension. Sure, this is flavor text and not vital details, but it lessens the feel when you have to do extra thinking to process it in an uncommon format. There is a decent amount of space around the whole "Cat Adoption Board" that you can work with, so I would increase its width and give more width to the "Cat Info" area. I'd also suggest adding bolding to the title of each stat/detail in the "Cat Info", or do something else to help the brain quickly process the title separate from the detail it is pointing to. This area could also benefit from more left margin.

For the more info of Bandit, should "Love to explore" be "Loves"?

I adopted a cat and clicked on them to get their comfort up. The final message about customers did not wait for me to do anything and went away before I could read all of it.

I don't yet know how important time passing is. You call it an idle game, so I'm assuming that there is no time pressure, and making the customers and cats wait won't matter. If it does matter, I noticed that opening up the Adopt screen again does not pause things. I don't do many idle games, so the lack of pause had me closing it right away to check on everything, and see if I was missing an interaction I needed to deal with. Playing some more I would say time does not matter, so there is no need to pause when showing the adoption screen. If you do add elements where the player needs to react in a limited time, then you'll want to be sure the adoption screen doesn't cause them to miss it.

I do appreciate that you included a pause screen, as that allows me to not miss things while I am typing these notes.

I adopted a second cat. A new customer showed up as soon as I closed the screen. I also saw the original customer get stuck for a short time on one of the cats. They sorted it out, so it is not a big deal, but as the number of characters on screen grows, you may need to work on the navigation/path finding to reduce the chances of this.

I played a bit more and then started adoption more cats. I adopted 5, and had 3 customers when 2 customers decided to go to the counter at the same time, and got stuck on each other. Then the third customer joined in. One of the cats got stuck on the pileup for a while, but freed themselves.

I'm still making money, and there don't seem to be any significant negatives at the moment, other than not being able to interact with the customers. I went ahead and adopted the remaining cats, and got the You Win message. The game was continuing in the background. It would be nice if you added an "OK" or "Keep playing with the cats" button, for those who want to just enjoy having all the cats.

I tried clicking on the Upgrade and Cafes buttons, but they did not seem to do anything. If they are not yet implemented, I would suggest disabling them so they don't look active to players. You could also have them show a message about what they will be and that they are not ready yet, but I think the simple disable conveys that well enough.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for all the feedback, I was worried about the font and I will change it to something more readable for main text. The fullscreen option seems really easy to implement, I will get that added with the next update. There should be no time pressure with the game. I'm going for a more laid back feel where you make progress over time adopting more cats, buying more upgrades and eventually even other cafes to have multiple going at once.

The adoption menu not pausing was intentionally, I want the game to keep running while you are in menus so the passive income and time based features (like being able to play with cats again) keeps moving. If you have ever played Cookie Clicker that is kind of what I picture for the long term playability of the game. I want the amount of money and things going on to scale and get to a insane level. It is supposed to just keep scaling up into bigger and bigger purchases. It is constantly going passively, the reward for playing and upgrading things is that it scales up faster. Kind of just infinite growth.

There was a typo on Birdie's info, customers and cat movement will be adjusted as time goes on, just rushed to get a prototype out. The upgrade and Cafe's menu will also be expanded on later, I can add coming soon boxes to them in the next patch along with a keep playing/quit option on game over.

Submitted(+1)

I love that customers are now going to the counters! One of my gripes with the older version was how static they were.

I would like the staff guy to do an interaction of collecting the money or being happy or something as well.

Also, the fact that you are adding personalities to the cats makes this game 10x better. Before the cats were just a collectible because it progressed the game, now there is actual reason to get a new cat.

I noticed you took down the cafe upgrades system. I am assuming you are revamping it?

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked the customers moving, I feel like it adds a lot. I will see what I can do to make the server move as well.

I have tons of plans for the personality stuff and ideally it will determine a lot about the cats such as where they go in the cafe, how likely they are to interact with customers and even how/when you can interact with them.

I just didn't have time to get the upgrades added this time. That along with better customer/cat movement are the next things I will be focusing on. Just ran out of time for the jam.
