Pretty fun, once I got the hang of it and was able to make use of a torch. I did appreciate the sounds not being too annoying (given about a thousand of them would eventually occur during a night).
A minor oddity is, once I got to 2:46 but that didn't count as surviving. Is "2.5" minutes really "2:50"? :)
Good job creating an oppressive atmosphere! The only thing that didn’t quite fit in was the enemy death sound ;)
Nice visuals and atmosphere. I liked the mechanic of upgrading over the progression of the game. The torch was fun for a bit, but I feel like it encouraged standing still when the most engaging gameplay was when I was moving around.
Nice atmosphere and visuals and a funny presentation to make the scary things disappear upon inspection.
At later parts of the night the game became stuttering when spawning a lot of enemies at once, maybe pooling or staggering spawning them would help here?
I feel that the torch kinda play against the main mechanic of evading enemies, as after upgrading it you can just stand there and idle out essentially. I think it might be nicer for the gameplay if the torch you upgraded wasnt actually with you like this, rather you’d upgrade the chances of torches spawning on the level and their time until they burn out and other stats, this way you’d still have torches but you’d have to keep moving to get their benefits.
Thanks for playing! I just didn't get much of a chance to work on performance but I think there's likely some strategy that could help here.
Good thoughts about the torch! With the cooldown/duration that's already in the game it'd be easy to have it spawn in a different spot when it's off cooldown to encourage moving a bit more.
Yeah performance was an issue... But apart from that, pretty addictive game!
took me 7 days 😂 Probably bought my torch too late. Ending was fun.
Was a fun loop. The popping sound you chose was solid (it easily could've been overwhelming with the amount it played). the crackling played into the aesthetic which is a nice enough outcome from what was actually happening.
I worked hard to get the torch
Pretty satisfying gameplay loop! One bug I ran in to is that the 'play music' button in the settings never stops playing music, so I played my first round with tranquil music, only to later realise it was supposed to be sinister lol
I copied the settings page from a bevy_seedling example and forgot to remove their audio... I bet that was a funny experience hahaha
I love the game loop, its addicting! I feel like this could turn into a cool rogue-like! The upgrades are fun, and the concept of using light as your defense is satisfying. Great job!
fun! i really liked the upgrades. i liked the assets a lot, they would look really cool if there was more time to animate them! the music was creepy- it kept distorting/glitching, which i didn't know if was on purpose, but it definitely made it creepier :p
Thanks for the kind comments! The music glitching is totally a performance thing I just didn't have time to do any sort of performance pass on this- at least it added to the atmosphere lol
