Description
The game I wrote this soundtrack for is called "Whispers in the Breeze", a puzzle game where the main character is following the spirit of their ancestor who is a family member that recently passed. That ancestor wants to show them the tales of the life they had lived, and so the player must solve puzzles throughout the game to find out what happens next. Ultimately, it is a game that is meant to help the player find peace with a loved ones passing.
All tracks were written using Cubase. The main theme track was the first I wrote, representing the story and emotional timeline of what the player is meant to feel. The shopkeeper theme is more of a cheeky nod to my grandfather. He loved to sell antiques and curios, always calling them his "High Quality Crap". Since this theoretical game is about working through his passing, I thought it was a funny and cute track to do. The puzzle theme is meant to serve as the background for when the player is completing puzzles.
Much of how I composed these tracks started with picturing the gameplay, and adapting the main theme into that kind of track. The main theme was written while sitting at my piano and just allowing the emotion in mind to do the walking on the keyboard. This was later adapted to use strings and support from the brass the bring out the emotional weight. The puzzle and shopkeeper themes were written solely in Cubase with no real noodling around the studio, a lot of what came to be for those 2 tracks was just singing the theme and picturing the gameplay, from there I could feel what would be right as far as instrumentation and articulations for getting the mood right. The shopkeeper music is just meant to be fun and lighthearted while you're looking at their inventory debating what to buy, so I went with the pizzicato strings and kalimba. The puzzle theme was funny enough, more puzzling to do. Trying to balance a sense of peace while also giving a vibe of concentration took some experimentation. I wanted a driving rhythm without feeling too adventurous, and some string pads that didn't do too much. I also flirted with the Lydian sound a bit at the beginning, letting it slip away coming back to the A section the give it less of an edge.
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
Looking at the picture, it reminded me a lot a melancholic and peaceful feeling. It resonated with me pretty heavily since a grandparent of mine passed earlier this year, so I decided that I would write music for a game that kind of surrounded around that feeling, heavily leaning more on the peaceful side.

This is very pleasant and whimsical. I'm not feeling the gloom of the theme, but I don't have to, it feel too much full of life.
Thank you all so much for all the kind words. I am over the moon that everyone has enjoyed it as much as you all did! I am looking forward to jamming with you all again 😊
Hey! this was a lot of fun!
I think a lot of people avoid entries that arent directly linked to a streaming service so it might take some extra leg work to advertise for it, but that aside:
You do great work with giving energy to the quiet parts of your music and your intuition for dynamics was very good at conveying the emotion behind what you wrote. In terms of writing a tribute or exploring your feelings, I personally think you did a great job. I dont really have many critiques for this since everything feels like an artistic decision or choice rather than a mistake.
This is wonderful work thank you a ton for submitting and taking me along on your journey!
Gorgeous orchestration!
This is a perfect example of a game soundtrack that I want to live in.
I love this so much :D
Your soundtrack sounds outstandingly comfy; it is beautiful!
I loved it when the piano came in during the puzzle theme :)
I'm super glad to have listened to this soundtrack; I wish you the best of luck in the jam :D
Very simple but beautiful tracks! Feels like the kind of music I would hear in like a Nintendo fantasy adventure game, it's very cozy sounds throughout. My favorite was probably the shopkeeper theme, but I do love me some slow and pretty songs so it was a joy to listen to all of them. Great work!
Very cute and beautiful sound track!! All I could really ask for is more haha really great vibes! I do think your last song is a bit loud in comparison to the rest, but that's not much of a deal breaker or anything. Great job!
I liked how acoustic the shopkeepers theme was. Made the shop feel like an antique shop as you described just through the instrumentation alone.
The Shopkeeper Theme was cute and the Main Theme was beautiful! Great soundtrack :)
The puzzle theme is perfect and I loved the serenity of the main theme (athough I think the viol there is a bit loud)
I love how you make it flow up and down! I wish I could play piano good to be able to just let my emotions go directly to the keys
The music is harmonious and relaxing, it really goes well with your game idea.
This was really pleasant to listen to! It would fit perfectly in the puzzle game you described; not so quiet you'd miss it but not so overbearing it would take away from the player's focus! Amazing work with this one!
Cover art looks really nice! This was a nice soundtrack, definitely would fit well into the game you described, it could be on my end, but I would love to see more of the theme come into play, otherwise nice submission!
