i got in
i got a phone call today from art institute of boston that i was accepted to the mfa program.
i go to the first intensive in june. i have to get a listing of mentors. they prefer i commute to chicago 4 times a semester to speak with a mentor there, rather than someone from this area?
so i have emailed a teacher from the art institute that i had some critic from in ireland and she remembers me and said she would like to if we can work it out. i asked a teacher i had from here in my bfa program and another teacher who is parttime at the art institute chicago and lives in peoria (i havent heard from him yet).
so i will see who they decide should teach me...
im excited, but it is really expensive there... hotels are outrageous. im looking for a short term rented apartment or hoping someone else coming will want to share an apartment with me.
and hopefully my new part time job will cooperate with giving me time off.

d.c.
d.c. was good. my flag was on the stage with a light behind it. so all the speakers and poets had it behind them when they talked...it will be in alot of pics.
cnn news was outside interviewing people all night...but i havent watched so i dont know if they ran anything.
it was an intense night.
speakers...the head of ips(institute of policy studies), andy shallal(owner of the venue, an artist and iraqi immigrant), iraq war vets, and more...code pink and lots of groups, you could hardly moved, it was so packed all night. standing room only.
poets...really intense...included the vets poetry. tough because it confirmed the things i am worried about my son seeing and seeing them and how they were effected, confirmed how i am worried my son will be effected...but it is good to know there is support and outlets for what he will be feeling...when he is home...
code pink may call me to commission a piece.
there are aritst i met i would like to work with..collaborate, but i am in stupid central illinois so that may not work out.
it was a good show, a great night and a long drive.
this pic is dark....it was during the poetry dissent

Progressing, but still not finished
I made some progress on the Red Horse painting last night and plan to work on it some more tonight:

I just couldn't wait any longer. I want to enter it into the Chicago Art Open and can't submit a half finished piece!

Red Truck
I was able to come home early from work today, so I set to work on a new painting. Here it is in its half finished state. Hopefully I actually will finish this one - I have too many unfinished pieces laying around as it is.

I think I have discovered why it takes my paintings so long to dry - in a discussion I had this afternoon with a clerk at the art supply store I go to, the man mentioned that linseed oil will lengthen drying time. So in this piece I am using less oil than I typically would, and so far so good. Hopefully it will be dry enough for me to make further progress on it in the morning.
Last month I shelled out a huge chunk of change to upgrade from student oils to artist quality oils and painting mediums (rembrandt, old holland) and the difference is pretty remarkable. I would highly recommend to anyone who has been avoiding artist quality paints because of the price to just give it a shot with the one or two colors you tend to use most. I swear you'll never be cheap again.

I THOUGHT IT WAS APPROPRITE TO TITLE IT THIS WAY, AS THE EXHIBIT IS CALLED "FOUR WAR YEARS" MARKING THE END OF THE FOURTH YEAR OF WAR.
IT WILL ARRIVE THURSDAY NITE AND MEET THE FRIDAY DEADLINE...RELIEF!
