How did you feel about the backrooms movie? Speak on it, I’m very curious

I thought it was fantastic visuals trapped in a deeply subpar script; the therapy storyline was written by someone who has never been to therapy (she brings up heavy work five minutes before the session is supposed to end??), which is a funny dynamic, and used like an exposition dump in a way I found clunky; I also believe that almost 99% of voice-overs in movies could be cut and make the movies so, so much better

Chiwetel Ejiofor, the main actor, did a fantastic job but the turn in the middle of the movie felt a little abrupt and the general writing had the sense of what teenagers think adult problems are like—the man drinks! the woman does random baggy-pills!; the message felt weird at points: you can’t fix people can be a conservative point in many spaces; then, to me, it felt like the movie just kind of ends, like that’s all folks

that being said, even if I felt like the sheer number of chase scenes became overwrought, the visuals rocked and the SENSE of the backrooms well done—the greetings in different languages was haunting

Finally, I thought the shaky-cam footage with the worker and her boyfriend were like ten perfect minutes of movie, genuinely a great combination of humor and suspense and again, cool ass visuals and vibes

So, like, really cool aesthetic, poor writing

the backrooms really a testament to how far you can go by looking cool as hell but the writing felt incomplete and clunky to me plus I thought it'd be having a little more fun like in the shaky-cam portion :')
