Hi, Gorgeous!
This is my letter for Chocolate Box 2021. I hope it's helpful.
Let me say first off - thanks! I think you're nifty to write me a fic in a fandom we share! Above all, if you have a good time writing the story, that will shine through, and I guarantee that I'll enjoy it too.
General stuff:
*Write what pleases you best!
*I don't have a rating in mind, so anything up to and including NC-17/Explicit is completely fine. (If you'd like to know what I like in terms of smut, have a gander at my Smut 4 Smut letter.)
*For this challenge, I'd prefer to have the characters as they are in canon and for the canons themselves to be stable - no AUs that rejigger existing canon or crossovers this time around, please.
*I've requested pairings for each canon, but I am always happy to see other characters pop up - I really enjoy having the main characters' other relationships be acknowledged as part of what they bring to the romantic pairing.
*I don't really enjoy unremittingly dark fic, and I don't want anything with a terribly unhappy ending.
*I swoon for humor. I'm impressed by world-building, and I love seeing those little details that tell me you've thought about the realities of the place you're depicting. I adore quietly sorrowful stories. I quite enjoy romance and smut.
*I think of myself as easy to please and have requested only characters and canons that I absolutely love, which I'm hoping makes your job a little easier.
*I'm so excited to read your fic!
Do Not Wants:
I do not want fic with any kind of consent issues (rape, non-con, dub-con, altered mental states), polyamory [except for Much Ado], infidelity (even fucking A while wishing to be with B), A/B/O, bestiality or animal play, death, loss of bodily control, body modification, loss of mental soundness, BDSM, permanent power imbalances, soulmates/soul-bonding, larger destinies that erase choice and free will, pain/pain-play, humiliation, or a very unhappy ending, please. Also, please no Reader/You insert-fic, and please don't treat any canon or character as a joke.
(I tend to do a lot of clickety-clicking once I have my assignment, but in case you'd rather just have a couple of straightforward links to figure me out, here is my master fic list (stories are listed in the order in which I wrote them within each fandom) and here I am on AO3 under the name innie. I don't have a tumblr or twitter or a current lj - I'm just on dw and AO3.)
Now on to the details, since I think I'm more likely to get a story that hits all of my buttons if I tell you what my buttons are for these fandoms. I would be deliriously happy with a fic for any of these requests (listed alphabetically and not in desired order)!
Daddy-Long-Legs - Jean Webster [one short novel]
Jervis Pendleton/Judy Abbott
Prompt: REALIZATION
I just reread this book - so charming and hilarious! - and realized that what I want to see is Jervis's understanding that Judy's teaching him through her letters. There's a power imbalance in their relationship from the get-go, but he is capable of being surprised by her and taught by her. I also want to see what happens after that first love letter, of course, when they're on more of an even footing.
Graves [20 episodes, 30 minutes each]
Isaiah Miller/Sammy Vega
Prompt: REALITY
Honestly, I could take or leave most of this show - any time spent on the senior Graveses was time lost, as far as I was concerned - but I did like the younger generation, particularly the extraordinary Isaiah. It's clear to me that getting shot was as much of a wake-up call for him as he said it was, and given that he confesses his virginity and then gives Sammy the "we could never be together" speech in season one and then spends season two unhappily entangled and brightening whenever he sees her, I think it makes sense that he's going after her. So show me what happens when Isaiah catches up with Sammy, whose career he's enabled? Can they/do they want to settle down?
Lucifer (TV) [75 episodes so far, 45 minutes each]
Candy Morningstar/Lucifer Morningstar
Dan Espinoza/Lucifer Morningstar
Ella Lopez/Lucifer Morningstar
Linda Martin/Lucifer Morningstar
Prompt: RECIPROCITY
So many people told me I'd enjoy this show and boy howdy they were not wrong. It threads the needle for me in a number of ways, and Lucifer himself, as played by Tom Ellis, is a wholly remarkable character. I bought into the grand romance with Chloe for the first few seasons, but the bloom was off the rose for me by the time Pierce and Kinley became factors. All of which is to say, please don't tie yourself in knots trying to explain why Lucifer is not with Chloe in your story - you can set it at a different time or handwave it entirely, and I'll assume his partner in the story is satisfied with however Lucifer has explained not being with Chloe. I'm fascinated by Lucifer as a character who craves reciprocity (how saddened he was at hearing he'd not made a single emotional connection in two weeks of taking dozens of lovers to bed!) and who is also capable of both astounding generosity and astounding selfishness. I'll admit I'd be particularly interested in his romantic/sexual relationships with Candy and Linda, but I think that's because I haven't yet read any fics that foreground those relationships the way that I have for the rest of my requests. Show me what the Lord of Consent gets up to!
Much Ado About Nothing - William Shakespeare [one play]
Beatrice/Benedick/Don Pedro
Prompt: CONTENTMENT
I never request poly romances, but seeing this relationship in the tagset reminded me of how hard I pinged at Beatrice's lines proposing a triad. Because, at the end of the day, I just want Beatrice to be happy. She deserves better than what she's gotten, and if she's already given Benedick one chance and is prepared to give him a second, she should be allowed to think about what would make her truly happy. Being Don Pedro's Donna and Benedick's wife? Being married to neither but enjoying them both? Whatever works for her - VIVA BEATRICE.
Nine Coaches Waiting - Mary Stewart [one short novel, some in French]
Linda Martin/Raoul de Valmy
Prompt: DESIRE
I read this for the first time several weeks ago, and was instantly enchanted by this book, which I described to a friend as "if Josephine Tey gave birth to a baby that was a little Jane Eyre and a little Rebecca, in other words, completely up my alley." The romance is done really well, of course, but so is Linda's own interiority and the affection she feels for Philippe. William Blake (that poor little lamb!) is nicely drawn as well, and I enjoyed the full cast of characters. But oh, that spark between Linda and Raoul is really something.
So that's it! Thank you again for working on something for me, and happy writing!
All the best,
kunju
