Hi, everybody!

Goodness, it's been a whirlwind around here these past few months. I started my new job the second week of October and it's been quite the learning curve for me. Since I made the move from corporate to non-profit, the hours are better, the pay is worse, and the benefits are fairly comparable. I've definitely lucked out with my team, who are all (all three of them) people I would choose to hang out with anyway, and I'm being told that I definitely have the chops for the job, which is nice. I'm not used to deadlines being no big deal or the formality of the interoffice interactions, but it is nice to know I'll be done for the day at a decent time, no matter what else is going on.

Because of that set schedule (and once again having a steady paycheck), I've been able to see a lot of shows recently, some hits and some misses. (Does anyone miss my theater reviews? I think I would need to go back a year or two to pick up where I left off.) Same goes for books - I found some fantastic stuff on the "pimp your fandom!" Yuletide posts and some less great stuff on the bestseller list. Fannishly, I've been very productive in that time: I wrote the first 13K of a medieval Kingsman AU and posted it for my birthday, shared with a friend; read a lot of long and delightful Pride and Prejudice and Jeeves and Wooster fic and toyed with ideas for each of those fandoms; won fics from three awesome authors in the Puerto Rico auction; and wrote a bunch of Yuletide stories (I just need to edit the last today in between packing and freaking out over everything). I'll be leaving for a trip with my family on Wednesday and we'll fly back to New York on the 30th and then spend the next few days packing up my mother's house - yes, it finally sold! - and then I go back to work on the 2nd and she moves to the apartment she's leasing for the year. Which means that I might not get to read my Yuletide gift until 2018, which is making me cranky already.

I hope you're all doing well as this hellish year winds down! Take care of yourselves and I'll catch you in the new year!
