A Northern Chorus.

A NORTHERN CHORUS | bio, photos, music player

For Those of you unfamiliar with A Northern Chorus, let me just say that I love this outfit. Picture yourself mid-18th century, when witch hunting and religious tyranny ran abundant in Europe. This music embodies the spirit of a truly passionate and visual soul. I think that the band has down a good job producing an intertwine of strings and orchestral techniques, while strumming on their guitars and folk-style percussion.

A song you may want to check out first is "The Shepherd & The Chauffer" off their Bitter Sounds Resign release makes for one of my favorite ANC sounds at current time. I love their melancholy melody. The song starts out with a pounding rush of despair and sadness, and abruptly turns to the story of the song. The lyrics take the listener on a journey through a crime novel. I'm happy alone with the sounds, and their style makes it equally as appealing. Fans of LOW, Sappington, Elliott Smith, The Wrens, Frogeyes... take note.

Enjoy.

CASS MCCOMBS.

CASS MCCOMBS | music, discog

I stumbled upon the lovely music of Cass McCombs while surfing through my Media Player. With that being said, I would like to announce my full devotion to this underrated talent. Cass McCombs is straight out of Northern California. Most of his songs cry a melancholy song about the trivial lifestyles surounding him. The great thing about McCombs is that his songs hit many nails of the emotional string. He has a knack for pulling the tissues with his style of lo-fi blend folk indie.

McCombs uses an array of different orchestral maneuveres, ranging from strings to organs to acoustic guitars and ultimately with vertical pianos which adds to the nostalgia of his music. Upon listening to my favorite song at the moment "I Went To The Hospital" off his A release, I could relate to a lot of McCombs's hushed bittersweetness and contemplative harmonies. I felt as tired yet hopeful and my pursuit of finding true love as this singer as he chants "I wanna be famous... for falling in love... I went to the hospital... They put me in a bed... Cuz' I always do what Momma always said." Yet, this piece stands for many weaved feelings possibly about taking someone to the hospital or simply about dying without falling in love.

Bellafea

Hey guys-

Have any of you heard of Bellafea? They're an unpredictable two-peice sadcore group, and I stumbled upon their EP. It's really amazing - easily the best new group I've heard this year - but these guys are practically off the radar. It's a shame, hopefully they'll find an audience.

I'm looking forward to posting more to this community and hopefully finding a couple of new bands.

Thanks!

Evan

hydrochloric base.

I must announce first of all, that I finally finished a full piece of music for the first time this school year. and obviously, I'm happy about that. some of you have already heard it, but I thought it was worth posting, since I used to always post songs when I finished them...and I haven't done such a thing in a while. in fact probably not for a year or so. so finally I am back again to show.

alterior - hydrochloric base

it's a very long song, around 12-13 minutes long. it has vocals on it, but they are minimal and come in more prominently later on. there are no lyrics, as I am singing gibberish (like in sigur ros' ( ) album). the vocals are countertenor and so are in falsetto. the music is otherwise entirely electronic (and done in the reason program), and although very melodic, has a particular concentration on drums. in fact the drums probably give it overall a kind of idm-ish sound, so I'd classify this under that if anything. it's a very long song though. I can say though...I am very happy with this song. I was literally ecstatic when this song was finished, I could barely contain my joy, and my heart was pumping very fast. I don't even care if people don't like this song because I'm so satisfied with it myself. people seem pretty happy about it so far though, so I'm glad for that as well.

I think that's all to say here, this post was specifically to hydrochloric base, so.

oh and don't copyright infringe this or else I'll have a lawyer after your ass, obviously.

palaxy tracks

hi, i just wrote about this in my own livejournal, but i wanted to write here too, since only about five people read my journal. palaxy tracks is a band from chicago who make really beautiful and wonderful music. their last album cedarland was amazing, and i'm listening to their new album twelve rooms for the first time right now and it's just as good as cedarland. i'm not very good at describing music so i think you should just go to their website and listen to an mp3. i guess they kind of remind me of pinback in a way, because the music is melodic and kind of dreamy, and they have a unique sound. but really you should just listen to them yourself because my words can't do the music justice. i'm pretty sure that they're not very popular, but i really think that a lot of people would like them, and i mean that in a good way. like, they have just not found the right outlet yet. but anyway their website is

http://www.palaxytracks.com
and you should go to it and listen to one of the several mp3s on the site. it might make you feel better.
