Indiana Derby Fans

For our co-ed Halloween bout, the theme is going to be Barbie vs. G.I. Joe. I'm on team Barbie. :D

So, I’ve been thinking of possible derby names for that bout. Any opinions or suggestions? (My number will remain 2020.)

• Girls’ Toy
• Plastic Boyfriend
• Polyvinyl

Watcha think? B) Have to pick something by next Friday (10/8).

For those of you who’d like to go, the bout will be at Ellenberger Park Ice Rink.

Doors @ 6 p.m., and the bout starts @ 7 p.m.
Tickets $5 for all, and children 2 & under are free.

Last night, Anne and I went to watch Roller Derby (which doesn't, by the rules of English grammar, need to be capitalized, but by the rules of capitalizing Things What Are Awesome does) live for the very first time.

I used to watch it on TV when I was a kid, and grew out of it the same time I grew out of wrestling, for pretty much the same reasons, so each time my friend Burns, who is a referee at the Doll Factory, told me to come watch a derby, I always had something else to do.

About a week ago, Burns told us that he'd get us VIP tickets if we wanted to come out. He promised us that we'd have a good time. Anne and I have been looking for excuses to get out of goddamn fucking suburbia lately, so it seemed like a perfect opportunity to see something our friend loves, experience something new, and get out of goddamn fucking suburbia all at once.

From I Like It Derby --

I was thinking about how today is the 25th birthday of Tetris, and now I’ve made myself really sad. I just was thinking about how little gaming time I’ve been getting since I started roller derby. I miss my old video games!

I love Final Fantasy, and there are two new FF titles coming out in the next couple of years (XIII and XIV)! I still have to finish XII!

Guild Wars, my favorite MMORPG, has been seriously neglected since the beginning of April. I’m pretty sure the last time I logged on was on April Fool’s Day, when everyone was turned into chibi Gwen. (So cute!)

I'm new here, so I haven't had a chance to check the archives for a similar question but...

Does anyone know where one might find knee-high rollerskates? I've always loved rollerskating, as opposed to inline skating, but I've also loved the look and support that knee-high skates give you. I can't seem to find them online even. The only thing I can think to do is to find a good pair of lace-up boots and disassemble a pair of skates to kind of... frankenstein my own.

Suggestions?

I wouldn't be using these for any sort of derby or competitive skating. They're primarily for a costume I'd be using frequently, as well as for simply checking out the benefits. I have bad knees and a bad ankle, so I'm interested in the support.

Also, it should look wicked cool.

So...I am helping a striver of ours come up with a name and I am hitting a brick wall!!! I told her to pick a name she would like to be called and we would work from that...like my name is Snide Piper and I love that people call me Piper...and we all know the perils of picking a super clever name only to have it shortened to something that is awful!

So yeah...I am working with "Narn"...or something of the likes...

Any ideas?
