In your own space, talk about your fannish history.

I started reading fanfic in 2002 at the very latest. I can date that year because I found a fic I printed out with the date on it; I could have started reading in 2001 for all I can't remember. I started writing fic in 2003.

A chronological list of my fic-writing fandoms: Mutant X, X-Men movies, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars Prequels and Original Trilogy, Silmarillion, Merlin, Young Wizards, Babylon 5 (a one-off), Doctor Who (Eleventh Doctor), MCU, Star Wars Rebels and Prequels.

A couple of that list are perpetual fandoms; I tend to call myself bifandom because it's always Tolkien + another fandom. Tolkien is obviously the main one of these, but Young Wizards is always there even if I don't create things for it. Star Wars I bounce in and out of, but it's also been my longest fandom love; I first saw the OT in 1994.

I participated in fic fandom on fanfiction.net and I know I was aware of some of the Tolkien-centric archives in the mid 2000s. My original home for Star Wars fic was theforce.net's fanfic forums and it still bothers me that the change in the forum software made so many of my favorite fics unreadable. When I dropped into the Silmarillion fandom, I discovered the Silmarillion Writers' Guild (which remains my fandom home) and that people used LJ for fic purposes. So Merlin and Doctor Who were largely LJ-based, though the latter also has Teaspoon (though I never posted there). Young Wizards was/is LJ -> Tumblr and AO3 -> Slack as the fandom migrated. MCU was entirely AO3-based for me, along with following a few people on Tumblr. Rebels and Prequels I read on AO3, but the fandom is so wanky that I only follow two or three SW Tumblrs and just stepped my toes into a Rebels-centric Discord.

I'm not sure what else to say here, so ask me questions if you're curious about anything.

I discovered LOTR fanfic on fanfiction.net in 2002 as well. I was *very* new to the internet, and it opened a whole new world.

I was actually doing an attempt of decluttering and found a Mutant X comic book buried deep in one of my boxes and I decided to rescue it haha. It has Mason and Adam on the front page.

I read LoTR when the movies were fresh (having done a reread in preparation) but I lost my place reading the peeps re-enactment.

This was, before 2000? A group of friends (men and women, with some unions between them) decided to play with Peeps and make a fanwork where hobbits, men, elves are all represented by Peeps. Last I checked (recently-ish) it IS still on the web.

I definitely understand your "Tolkien + another fandom" stance. :D Though I am very much multi-fandom if pinned down and made to pick just one I would pick Tolkien every time. ;)

I have written a Tolkien adjacent fic (Steve Rogers, the man under Captain America's cowl(as opposed to CE the man that has carried Steve Rogers around for a number of years) is old enough to have read The Hobbit and to have needed informed that while he was taking an ice nap, more Tolkien was published.)

Fandom is my fandom.

While my fandom is the 800lb gorilla in the room, I figured I should precis.

I fear in my story I might have mixed up some Gimli business since I didn't do another reread.
