1500 04082025 ATHENAMARKETBUZZ MONDAY ATHENA MARKET REPORT **Market Report** Good Morning, *Mdex opened lower and by lunchtime we were trading lower, with October at RM 4175 (-70).*CPO is once again competing with soybean oil. India traded good volumes of soybean oil for OND with only a marginal premium to CPO prices; hence, it appears that for the time being we should not see any major trading in palm oil, especially for forward months. The INR has depreciated, while the RM is mostly unchanged — this pushes MDEX lower. As mentioned before, MDEX will find resistance around RM 4350 to 4450, and longs have used these levels to exit. We had recommended that traders make longs around RM 4150 to 4000 for short-term trading, and we still suggest waiting for a dip. Sentiments are positive in soft oils, especially sunflower oil, and this could provide much-needed support to palm around the RM 4000 level. Production is up by 8%, and exports only by 3.2%, pushing stocks higher by about 10% to 2.23 MMT. End-stocks are higher than expected — probably the highest in the past 8 months. Palm would need to correct in order to regain market share. Until then, we suggest our readers hold tight and buy only when prices dip below RM 4150 or offer a handsome discount to bean oil — around USD 50 PMT. *Soybean oil settled lower on Friday, with September down 79 at 54.41*, which at the time of writing this report is trading at 54.37 (-11). Other bean oil months are marginally up but still above our target of 950. Bean oil is abundant, and this will continue to pressure the market. Indians have bought good volumes of soybean oil for OND and JFM, and it appears that the tightness in sunflower oil will push more demand towards bean oil. Tariffs and ongoing policy confusion continue to cloud the outlook. However, we still maintain that prices between USD 1050–1100 CNF India for OND/JFM are good levels to go long, while prices over USD 1150 are not worth the risk. CNF India current offers are at USD 1155, while buyers are looking to pay around USD 1130. China is exporting bean oil and buying meal from Argentina — this confirms the slowness in oil consumption and lower crush activity. Weather in the U.S. is perfect so far, which should result in more selling pressure. We maintain that oil will find support around 52.50 and resistance around 57.50. Buy below 54.50 and exit longs around 56.50–57.50. To go short, one needs to wait for prices to test the 60.00 mark. On a flat price basis in India, we see resistance for OND around USD 1200 — this is where we should see strong selling pressure. *Sunoil, as usual, remains the most bullish oil in the complex after rapeseed oil.* We are already hearing reports of damage in the rapeseed areas, and sunflower seed crop damage is reported in Romania and Bulgaria. Ukraine and Russia so far have not reported any major damage, but rumors suggest both countries may revise their crop estimates down by 1mmt
