Dear Yuletide Writer:

I can’t wait to see what you write! I love all of these fandoms equally, and in different ways, so I'll be delighted with whatever you write. I may be traveling internationally when YT fics are posted, so if I don’t respond right away, that’s why! I’ll read it as soon as I can!

I’m available on AO3 and tumblr, though I haven’t really used tumblr much over the past few years. I love slash, femmeslash, het, threesomes, friendship fic, and gen fic. I tend to gravitate towards plotty fic. Sex is great, no sex is great.

Overall, I love anything that stays true to the tone of the canon universe or characters. I’m not huge on modern day AUs for fantasy, sci-fi, and historical fandoms, since part of why I like those fandoms is the setting. I am, however, a huge fan of mundane AUs for historical/sci-fi/fantasy fandoms that are set in the canon universe instead of modern day: so, something like a college AU set during the Revolutionary War or a coffeshop AU in a fantasy universe.

I also have a fierce love of spy AUs, Age of Sail AUs, and noir AUs, so feel free to write those AUs for any fandom. Anything from my likes list is fair game, so if something from that inspires you more than any of my prompts, go for it!

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue - Mackenzi Lee

Why I Love It: THIS BOOK STOLE MY SOUL. Honestly, I read it in two hours because I couldn’t put it down. Then reread it again because I was so in love with it, and then read it for a third time just in case I missed any details from the first two times I read it. It’s so delightful in every way imaginable. I read it because I was looking for books about bisexual characters, but everything else along the way endeared me to it. Percy is absolutely adorable and Monty is loveable even when he’s being ridiculousness. They love each other so much and their mutual pining across Europe and willingness to do anything for each other just about wrecked me.

Specific Prompts:

• Future fic: Have they settled somewhere? Are they traveling the rest of the world? Do they get into more adventures? How are they dealing with everything that happened?
• Pre-book fic: Their first meeting. The first time Percy knew he was in love with Monty. How Monty dealt with his crush for years. How their relationship progressed and how they hid their mutual pining from each other.
• Canon divergence fic: maybe they confessed their feelings in Paris, maybe they got their act together and ran away before they even left England, maybe Monty did agree to run away with Percy in Venice, maybe Percy confessed about his epilepsy earlier.
• Anything that explores queer culture of the early 1700s. I’d love to see them being able to dance together or publicly kiss in one of the secret gay pubs. Or attend one of the clubs of the time where gay men could enact weddings because can you imagine the fumbly, shy, adorable proposal and wedding they’d have? It’d be amazing.
• Maybe they have more adventures! Monty gets into another scrape and there’s more political intrigue or they meet up with the pirates again (I hear the sequel is going to be about Felicity and a female pirate/science gang, so it’s possible!)
• Percy POV fic - before the book, during the book, after the book - anything that’s about his thoughts and feelings. Whether it’s about Monty, or his worries about his epilepsy, or the issues he has to face as a biracial queer man in a society that’s not friendly to him, to his love of music. GIVE ME MORE PERCY.

Gemma Doyle Trilogy - Libba Bray

Characters: Gemma, Kartik, Felicity, Pippa

Why I Love It: I have such a soft spot for this series and, in particular, for Gemma/Kartik and Felicity/Pippa. While I wouldn’t change the end of the series for anything, part of me is dismayed that an interracial couple and a queer female couple met unhappy endings, especially since these types of pairings are rarely shown in historical fiction! I love the fantasy worldbuilding and how the book addresses female independence and uniqueness in a time period that’s right on the cusp of the suffrage movement. And I love the dilemma over being true to society’s standards or true to yourself, as well as the dilemma between fate and free choice. It’s all wrapped up in nice fantasy package that’s sometimes whimsical and sometimes very dark and grotesque, and I love it.

Specific Prompts:

• Fix-it Fic! What I’d give for fix-it fic where Kartik doesn’t sacrifice himself and he and Gemma get to have a happy ending together. Maybe Gemma figures out a way to undo his sacrifice. Maybe they return to India and get married like in Gemma’s vision. Maybe they just travel the world or maybe he goes with her to America.
• Fix-it where Pippa doesn’t stay in the Realms. Maybe she and Felicity run off to Paris together. Maybe the girls all find a way to prevent Pippa from marrying.
• Future fic! Does Felicity make it to Paris? Does she get her fabulous pantsuit and meet other lesbians or bisexual women? Do she and Gemma meet up or write to each other? How’s Gemma doing in America? Does she still visit the Realms? How’s her relationship with her family after everything that happened?
• I’d love any fic about Felicity and Gemma bonding over losing their first loves and being independent, smart women in a time when society doesn’t like women who go against the norm.
• Backstory or POV fic about Kartik, Felicity, and Pippa! I’d love to see any of their stories play out from their POV since we only get one chapter from Kartik in the entire trilogy and none from Felicity or Pippa.
• Aside from the ending, two of my biggest disappointments were that Kartik never showed up to that masquerade in the third book because I wanted to see him and Gemma dance. And that we never got to see more of Felicity and Pippa alone to see how their relationship developed. Exploring either of those would be great.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Characters: Any

Availability: S1 & S2 on Netflix US, S3 airing in October 2017

Why I Love It:  THIS SHOW. This is one of those shows where I love every single character, even the supporting ones like Father Brah, Hector (and his mom), Maya, etc., so when I say I’d be happy to receive fic about anyone, I mean it! It’s such a clever, creative show and I fell in love with it immediately. All the characters are delightful, even when their flaws are on full display. What I love the most is that it’s really diverse and no one’s a stereotype, which I think is very rare on TV. I adore that it subverts traditional tropes and also has no problem calling out its characters for bad behavior. I’ll always love it for showing a queer coming out story that takes place later in life and treating it with respect, because that’s so rare! It’s such a smart show in so many ways and I can’t even think of one aspect or character I dislike. Honestly, this is one of those rare shows where you can write about just one character, all of them, some of them, and make it romantic, gen fic, or friendship fic and I’d love it.

• Rebecca/Greg is my favorite pairing, but I do think Rebecca/Nathaniel has potential (okay as of the episodes that have currently aired in S3, they clearly have more than potential and I'm loving them a lot) and I think Rebecca/Josh is super entertaining and has created some of the best moments in the show. I am, however, on Team Rebecca Needs To Take Care of Herself, so futurefic would probably work best for any romance.
• For other pairings, I have a huge soft spot for Darryl/White Josh because they’re so different, but they work amazingly well together. I think they have such a sweet dynamic and it’s a nice change to have the healthiest relationship on a show be the queer relationship. Anything that focuses on them would be great, too!
• I also really would love some femmeslash. I think Valencia/Heather has so much potential for femmeslash. They would work surprisingly well together and Heather’s calm demeanor balances out Valencia’s high maintenance behavior.
• For non-romantic, I would LOVE friendship fic, especially ore girl squad moments. I adored that storyline in season two and would love to see what Rebecca and her girl squad get up to, whether it’s plotting revenge on Josh or getting into a crazy shenanigan (idk maybe it involves a case at the law firm or it’s some tropey vacation escapade).
• My takeaway from the season two finale was that it would be amazing is Valencia started a wedding planning business and roped Heather in as her assistant.
• Also omg or something about Josh’s sudden decision to go to seminary school. Does that last? He has the most hilarious and scene stealing songs in the show and there’s so much potential for ridiculousness with him in this plot.
• Backstory or POV fic from other characters is great. Future fic is also great! How’s Nathaniel doing at the firm and in his relationship with everyone? How’s Greg doing at school and does he ever go back to West Covina or see his friends again? What else does Heather have hidden in her seemingly always cool past? What if Rebecca did move back to NY?

Turn (2014)

Characters: Ben, Caleb, Anna, Mary

Availability: Seasons 1 - 3 on Netflix US, Season 4 aired Summer 2017

Why I Love It: Stories about spies and secret agents are one of my favorite things. What I like about Turn is that there are characters on the American and British sides who are sympathetic or awful, and I like that we get a complicated look at the Revolution. So many portrayals just focus on everyone who wanted independence, and not those who were against it or who just wanted to go on with their lives and avoid being dragged into a war. My favorite thing about season four was that Ben, Caleb, Anna, and Mary were all in camp doing spy stuff together! That’s my dream team! I could have watched an entire season focused around the four of them doing spy stuff together.

Specific Prompts:

• Gen fic or friendship fic is great, and if you want to write pairings, I prefer Ben/Caleb and Anna/Mary. I’m all about slow burn, struggling with feelings, and in the case of Ben/Caleb, some good mutual pining. Hurt/comfort that turns into physical or emotional intimacy works for both pairings.
• For Ben/Caleb, I really love how they’re willing to do anything for each other, as we’ve seen over the course of the show. Did this develop when they were younger or over time? For romance, were the feelings always there or did they develop over the years, and how do they deal with them in the midst of everything that’s happening? What happens with their relationship after the war?
• For Anna/Mary, I think they could have had an amazing friendship and bond if the issues with Abe hadn’t impacted them. What if Abe was never an issue? Or what if they had sorted things out and worked together from the beginning - something where they were both recruited or had a united front for everything happening in Setauket.
• Friendship fic is also great because the scenes in S4 where Caleb teases Ben about the rumors of Ben/Anna or where Anna teases Ben about writing fake love letters is one of my favorite scenes from the entire series. Just happy moments teasing each other or reminiscing about life before the war or meeting up again after the war (they’re so spread out, so I’d love to see how their lives intertwine, whether it’s through meetings or letters).
• I’d prefer something set in the era, but I could really get behind a modern spy AU. Maybe Ben and Caleb are lying to each other about being a spy and have to deal with finding out the other is also putting his life on the line. Maybe they work together and one gets kidnapped and there’s a rescue mission and “i thought you were dead” reunions! Maybe Anna and Mary get teamed up and don’t work well together at first and then bond and become amazing partners. Maybe Anna and Mary have to do undercover as a couple work. Or all four have to go on an intense undercover op.
