So, I read the spoilers for the season premiere of 9-1-1 Lone Star first thing Wednesday morning after waking up and... all I could think about was WTF. And all the plotholes and questions that thing opened up. I'm less than impressed. Honestly, it felt as if it could be the one thing that would destroy my ability to suspend my disbelief entirely when it comes to the show.

I ended up watching the episode last night and - I've needed the whole day to really process it.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Carlos explanation about how and why he got married and never got a divorce? That's actually a quite plausible story. TK's reaction to it? It shows that's he's grown a whole lot in the past three seasons and managed to overcome a whole lot of issues he's developed throughout his life. Instead of blowing up or running away which probably wouldn't have been as easy considering he was at work he talked through it relatively calmly with Carlos. Of course, we didn't get his initial reaction or Carlos first telling TK about being married already. We got the second reaction after TK probably had a moment or two to let it sink in.

I want to say that Carlos really should have told TK before. He really, really should have. Buying that loft for TK and him? That should have been the point he told TK. Well, the break up did delay that. However, getting back together and (hopefully) talking through what went wrong there? That would have been an extremely good moment to tell TK about being married. Because buying that loft was kind of a marriage proposal. Without the proposal. Still, I don't really blame Carlos for being hesitant considering TK's previous track record with running from them. That does leave scars that aren't miraculously healed. Just like TK's scars (Alex, his parents, his addiction and who knows what else) from before he met Carlos didn't miraculously heal upon meeting Carlos.

Still, that scene did impress me. It also explains why Andrea knew about it. However, that plot line? It throws up a whole lot of other issues for me. If Carlos came out as gay to his parents at 17, why wasn't Carlos getting married to a woman something that triggered them to raise the topic? Why wouldn't something like that make them talk?

Also, how did that factor into the investigation of Iris' disappearance? I doubt they could have kept that a secret from the investigation. Did Dustin know that Iris was married? In all of those scenes where Carlos supported Michelle, especially after the truck was recovered, I always had the feeling that Carlos was there to support Michelle. It never felt as if he really had a vested interest in the outcome.

It was already weird that, unless I missed it, neither Michelle nor Iris were mentioned at all in the past two seasons. Granted, a lot happened in Carlos' life, but still. Would a throwaway comment have been too much? So much for them being friends. I guess that was reflected in Iris slapping Carlos and being upset about it. However, why was Carlos the one that had to reach out? Couldn't Iris or Michelle have reached out to Carlos? I mean, I doubt that things had been stress free for Iris or Michelle during the pandemic and while Iris worked on getting better. However, they made it sound as if the sole person responsible for keeping in contact was Carlos - but friendship is a two way street. It's both sides that need to make an effort and I didn't get the impression that Iris or Michelle tried to reach out to Carlos and he simply ignored them. That makes Iris refusing to get divorced unless she approves of TK sound very condescending.

Considering that there have been previews with Carlos and TK in suits and Owen and Andrea discussing the lack of *drama* in what I assume might be the planned seating, I don't believe that this really will be that much of an issue.

Speaking of Owen though, I have absolutely no idea what to think about that. I mean, it's very obvious that TK's his father's son with the amount of trouble they manage to find. With the difference that Owen appears to be actively searching it out while TK is just too hardwired to help at the risk of his own life. The other difference appears that while they both get out of that trouble alive, Owen hardly ever has to fight for his life or face serious injury for his daring adventures. I really, really want him to face consequences that actually make him rethink his attitude to life and actively work on adjusting it.

TK's clearly far too used to his dad's antiques. However, I think with the help of his relationship with Carlos and the growth that's given him, is starting to divorce himself from being too emotionally impacted by his dad's action and words. And by divorce I don't mean that he isn't as close to his dad or doesn't care about him, I just mean that he's less emotionally impacted by the things his dad does or says carelessly that have majorly hurt him in previous seasons.

I loved Nancy's observation how everyone's cranky when Judd fought with the coffee machine due to being super stressed about the potty training going on. Also, I really loved Marjan's comment about the method sounding like an HR violation. That scene was extremely fun.

Finally, Tommy's story line. I loved how she flirted with the pastor and I loved her reaction to finding out that the guy she hit on was a new pastor at her church. I'm really curious to see where that leads to.

Oh, and speaking of that pastor - let's take in the calls at the county fair. I really, really loved them. They were extremely amusing. As was everyone's reaction to the weather report mentioning how rare that second weather phenomenon was. They've got their own number when it comes to disasters :D

Now it's time to wait for the next episode and to see in which direction things develop.

I hope that the post isn't too scatterbrained. I ended up going back once or twice to add things to topics I already wrote about and there tend to be points when I lose the plot on what I was writing when doing that...

I totally agree about TK's growth!! I thought it showed a lot of maturity that he didn't get angry. I am annoyed with Carlos for never saying anything... I definitely got the impression he'd been avoiding Iris and Michelle and avoiding talking about them while his relationship with TK got more serious over the past two years.

I just mean that he's less emotionally impacted by the things his dad does or says carelessly that have majorly hurt him in previous seasons.
Oh good point! I didn't like how TK was out of the loop on Owen's shenanigans, but then again this shows that TK can have a separate life from his Dad and not be so wrapped up in his drama.

Yeah that's an interesting point because it seems like the show is not supposed to be from Carlos' point of view, if that makes sense. We only find out about bad things that have happened or decisions he made after the fact, and it's hard to gauge what he was thinking about the time, or how much guilt he carries.
