Called on a posiible entomology job lead, but contact is gone for vacation for a bit. Hopefully he'll respond to the message I left. Also, Discovery, which manages Yellowstone CLub, has a property in North Carolina that might provide a summer job closer to Heather and Mom, if I can handle another move, which maybe I cannot.
I love my iPod now, and listen to it all the time. So far I have about 300 albums, and more to upload. So many of the songs I haven't paid attention to in the past are a pleasant surprise nowadays, and I still push the repeat button for my old favorites. Sad songs, or very dramatic or romantic songs fire me up, and the nice collection of neutral and fun music balances my mood so I don't get too excited, or fall into fits of rage or dispair.
At work, we'ew about to enter the Christmas break surge, the bread and butter of teh season. So far I am booked all days and many nights 17 December - 3 January. No days off, no days off, no days off now for lots of days off later.
Finished another Matt Ridley book and now on to other evolutionary explorations, including nature via nurture, niches, politics based on genetic predisposition and innate talent, policies based on upbringing and financial advantage or disadvantage, memes and parasites. I love to read.
Ziplining today after horseback riding, ropes course and fishing yesterday, whitewater rafting tomorrow and next an overnight camp! Such a fun week with the kids at work this week. Really happy for this addition to the summer offerings.
Van is suffering some mysterious battery draining. Alternator and battery have tested "good" twice, so I am not sure what the deal is....a ghost in the machine. Not ready for car troubles, especially since I am being laid off so soon. But it must be fixed - not sure carlessness is an option = maybe...
Went kiting once, not enough wind. Now no days off for 7 days.
Like the white-coated ermine I saw below the ski lift.
Six days of skiing the soft sparkle of powder snowflakes. Life finds me in my cloud footsie pajamas, nappish, fresh from a baking soda soak, fed on goat-cheese and garlic stuffed orange bell peppers atop a bed of limp chard.
Enjoying the cool weather. It's in the mid to high 70's the last few days, while I hear yesterday Seattle reached 103 degrees as an alltime highest temp ever recorded for the city.
Seneca is really happy lately since we got backj from Billings. No more trips for him. He did not eat and would not leave the van for the entire weekend except once. Panting axiety the entire time...
The weather has turned to the sixties for highs and mid thirties for lows. Today is rainy. Waking up in the van today was cold, and Seneca wanted out right away, so we went to the Hot Springs. Now a member of the hot springs, I spent the last few days soaking in the natural hot tubs and weightlifting.
But work starts tomorrow in Big Sky, and I can't car camp in town now that I have Seneca full time. I have to move to the forest, which hopefully won't freeze this week or even this month, but I won't hold my breath - last year's mountaintop snow still had not completely menlted, and now the mountains are covered with a fresh coat. I packed my sweaters, boots and raingear in my van, which I have not yet winterized. The water needs to be drained and antifreeze needs to be run through all the lines, ie, no more sink and toilet. So, I'm waiting to winterize, because I like having water. But maybe I should just do it!!!
After September, I am going to help Laurie in Idaho for a few days, and then head to Hood River for kiting, hopefully the rest of October. I'll come back in November and prepare to go to North Carolina for a few weeks, then back here and a few weeks later the winter season starts.
I'm reading Daniel Dennett's Unweaving the Rainbow after finishing Human Smoke, a book on pre-war II political frameworks.
