In the last few months, I have seen:

Black Panther: To say that I enjoyed it would be an understatement. It was more like a revelation.

It (2017): My first horror film in quite a while. I liked it but was not very frightened and not as impressed as by Conjuring 2 by far. Looking forward to the sequel anyway.

Whip It: A re-watch but I only stuck with it for the first half of the film. That's what I remembered enjoying the most anyway. Really enjoyed Ellen Page's performance and the roller skating bits.

The first episode of Star Trek: Discovery. Quite enjoyed it, want to watch the rest of it but haven't gotten around to it yet.

A short scene from The Orville and laughed my arse off. Haha. I want to watch more of it to see if I like it although it being produced by Fox makes me a bit wary. We'll see. I haven't even looked if it is available on the German Netflix yet or if I would have to resort to Other Sources.

I want to write more about the books I have read (have been reading more books recently, yay!) but IDK if I want to do it here or not.
The unfortunate fact is that I want to read more fanfic again but I just don't feel as fannish as I used to. Not even for the aforementioned films. That makes me a bit sad, actually. >:(
Currently, I would have the time.

I've also been thinking of making a fannish tumblr. Mostly so I can follow some tumblr peeps with it and potentially interact easier than always being on-anon or on my non-fannish tumblr, where I wouldn't reblog personal posts or fannish stuff etc. at all. Hm. But I hate the tumblr dashboard so much. I tried to use the tumblr app on my phone but that was an even bigger disaster. Maybe I should look into tumblr saviour and xkit and the like.

So, I went to see Dinner for Schmucks for one principal reason. To make a long story short, it was funny but I wouldn't recommend to go see it just for Bruce Greenwood, because he doesn't have many scenes in it.

the film's premise, in case you aren't familiar with it )

So in short, a screwball comedy. It is funny to watch Paul Rudd play the "straight man" to Steve Carrell's oddball. There are the usual race and women issues. Bruce is in about three substantial scenes: near the beginning, when the company has a meeting at the end of which his character Fender extends the dinner invitation. Sometime in the middle, in another shorter company scene. Then of course, at the dinner itself. He's always in suits and doesn't have that many lines. To be honest, I didn't entirely believe him in the role. There are some really funny moments at the dinner when he cracks up at the "idiots'" antics but... either I've watched too many of his interviews he really did err too much on the side of comedy in his portrayal of the boss who likes to make fun of other people. I don't know.

Additional note to the Germans/Swiss/Austrians: Aaaaah, dubbing. *facepalm* Bruce's dubbing voice is strangely high. I did not like it at all. See if you can catch an original sound screening or wait for the DVD or ahem it or whatever. Just... it is a possibility that my lack of belief in Bruce's character comes from the dubbing voice. :P

Writing: 200 words
Letters finished: 0 but did add a few paragraphs

Writing continuing at glacial pace. Am at the place where I have severe doubts about story content and everything, really. It is likely a hormonal thing and will pass shortly. *chants to self*

In other news, watched "Shutter Island" tonight and enjoyed it greatly. Liked the atmosphere and the play with reality.

LJ was down for about an hour... at least for me and the two websites I checked (www.downornot.com and www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com) confirmed that. It is funny how much I miss LJ when it's down.

Yesterday, I went to see the film version of "My Sister's Keeper". cut for vague spoilers for the book and the film )

Now a non-spoilery question for anyone who might have seen the film:
Did you think that it's implied that Jesse, the brother, was picking up clients? I'm not sure how else to interpret his being out at night in a district with prostitutes, sitting there and looking/smiling at passers-by... Or perhaps I just think that because I've finally overdone it with the slash reading. Reality check, please? XD

Here's the longer reaction post. First off, my fears about attending a Trek preview advertised as "men's night" with men getting two beers for the price of one were unfounded. The theatre was packed but the audience was about two thirds men and a good third women. There was a lot of beer being sold but no one close to me had any so I didn't have to smell it and as far as I can tell, noone was even close to getting drunk. Some fans came in uniform and one guy had a larger-than-life Spock head that he wore. Hilarious! The costumed fans made me wish I had put more effort into my Vulcan robe plans... The preview had a great atmosphere; funny scenes, good effects and the ones that paid hommage to classic Trek scenes frequently got cheers or approving comments, which made me very happy. :D some ST:XI SPOILERS AHEAD )

Yes.

Wow!

It'll be worth it.

And the questions to the answers above are: Did you like the new film? Describe your reaction to it. How do you feel about 90% of your disposable income going to cinema tickets this month? :D

I am so, so glad that this film was made and that LN was part of it. So, so glad and happy and inspired and everything else. Also dead tired. Later today, RL be willing, I'll post a more detailed and spoilery reaction post and then I'll also reply to your reaction posts. Am greatly looking forward to that!

Last weekend I had some sort of Star Trek binge.

First, I saw Mind Meld.
I saw it in German, the dubbed version, as I couldn't get hold of the English videotape. So, no real voices for me. But I loved their take on the beginnings of Star Trek, the daily work on the set... *squee*
When I came to Star Trek, it was already huge, a cultural phenomenon, something you just knew about, and had been going for over 30 years. It always amazes me to hear about how in the beginning, this was totally not the case. Star Trek was cancelled after 3 seasons and everybody thought that was that.
I'm not quite sure about WS asserting that he really, completely didn't know about the rest of the cast not getting along with him. It seems to me a bit of a The Lady Doeth Protest Too Much situation. *shrugs*

Secondly, I watched the last scenes of Is There No Truth In Beauty, the complete Immunity Syndrome and the first ENT ep about P'Jem. Loved the S&Mc banter before Spock enters the shuttle and his supposedly last log entry, when he thought he wasn't going to survive.
I wonder if he deleted it. I mean, he must have been exhausted. Wouldn't it be too cute for some crew member to find the log entry during shuttle maintenance and go all Awwww?
*feels warm and fuzzy inside*

ETA: Since Thursday, the Preview function is not working for me. At all. I wonder why? None of my settings changed.
Bwahaaa. I just tried it again and Preview is now working flawlessly.
I swear, computers have a soul. And their aim is to drive you crazy.
