Came across this art installation, Liza Lou’s Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It’s a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.
My favorite part is the sink.

Idk who needs to hear this— stop playing safe characters.
If your characters always say the right thing, react the right way, or avoid conflict all together, you’re setting them up to be incredibly boring and one-dimensional. People are fucking messy. We try our hardest where we can, but we often misread things, say/do the wrong things, act in our own best interests, and make selfish choices. That being said, none of those things necessarily make them a bad person— just flawed and above all else, human. Your characters do not need to be a personal reflection of your morals and values. It is not a moral failing to play a character who is a bad person who does bad things; regardless of what others may say. It is, in fact, a good thing to play characters who challenge your convictions. If anything, you’ll learn more about where you stand/fall playing a piece of shit than always playing the character that best represents your ideal ‘person.’ Character growth requires conflict. Character growth requires failure. I promise you, playing a deeply flawed character will do more for you personally than playing the same character archetypes over and over again.
Waaay back in the 90s when I used to larp around in parks with my mates and the Mind’s Eye Theatre book I started out playing as a beautiful, charming Toreador and it was… ok. Nice, but not an engaging character.
Next character was a Malkavian who used to talk to cockroaches (I had a different big plastic roach in every pocket, they all had names) like they were the divine messengers of great and terrible beings.
Every time the other Kindred needed my oracle powers I’d nod grimly and say, “I shall consult the creatures of darkness.”
Then go stand near the park bin, pull a couple of roaches out of my pockets and be like, “Heyy guys so uh, we need some advice here? Yeah. Yeah just a hint would be great. I’ll take you to McDonald’s after this, sure. Ok thanks.”
And it was a BLAST. My character was terrible in combat, was barely able to carry a conversation and creeped the hell out of everyone but she was so much fun.
“I shall consult the creatures of darkness,” has been added to my vocabulary, thank you— 😭
This is what it’s all about. I wanna see more of this. Someone draw a Malkavian consulting their pocket-roach PLEASE.
I LOVE SUPERGIRL!!
