Raging right now, you've been warned

You know, I'm a fairly nice person until you piss me off. And right now, I'm really fucking pissed. To the point where I actually saw red. I had an entire post written up about why I'm so pissed. I've chosen - for now - to save it as a draft and sleep on it. It may still see the light of day.

But for now, do me one small favor. Stop talking about me behind my back. Stop saying that I said things that I didn't. Stop implying that I'm a shit person when I reached out to you more than once and attempted to be friendly to you.

Just stop.

This was never about you until you tried to make it about you.
don't make me whack you, bitchslap

Just proof that all is right in the world, I guess

So I see there's kerfluffle and wank in the Harry Potter fandom. Again. All because JK expressed an opinion about her own characters. Um.

Really?

This falls under the heading 'fandom entitlement' and the level of outrage and vitriol I'm seeing is just...yeah, no. Not cool. I dare anyone to pull up things they wrote almost 17 years ago and tell me they still completely agree with every single decision they made regarding plot and characters during the writing process.

God knows I can't do it. I still look at Even Angels Fall and ask myself wtf I was thinking when I did this and that and why I didn't do this other thing. And you know what? That is absolutely 100% okay.

As writers, we grow and change and so does our writing. And there's nothing wrong with looking back on something and saying, "Hey, I wish I did this differently."

No one has the right to tell you any differently. No one has the right to tell you that your opinion isn't valid simply because it doesn't agree with theirs. No one has the right to tell you that you can't change your mind.

And let's face it. If we're all being honest here, her opinion isn't going to change how anyone thinks about the characters or the books. You'll go on shipping Harry/Draco or Hermione/Draco or Harry/Ron or whatever. It's why we're all in fandom and why we write fan fic. To 'correct' what we perceive to be wrong with the source material. You think the SPN people claiming over and over that Dean Winchester is heterosexual has changed a single person's mind?

Yes, there are certain things that should stay canon, regardless (names are one unless you're doing genderswap, so don't even get me started on the whole Gipsy Danger vs. Lady Danger bullshit), because to change those changes the characters into your own OCs so you may as well right them as such. But who they're paired with in the books/films/tv shows? Yeah, not so much.

So maybe just take a step back, look at the crap you're spewing, and ask yourself if your mother or grandmother would be proud of you for it.

And guess what? This is MY opinion, so I'm not going to argue it with anyone. End of story.

I'd say that escalated quickly, but...

So, I officially broke up with True Blood last night. And I can't say it hasn't been coming for a while. The first 3 seasons were pretty solid, and then season 4 started to go a little pear-shaped. (Isn't that right around the time that Anna and Stephen got married? I'm not saying that's the reason, but...) Anyway, the last two seasons have just been a huge clusterfuck of a train wreck.

There were sparks of brilliance in both, and I'm not saying there weren't.

Take, for example, the character of Warlow. And just stop now, because I liked the character, but they fucked it so hard that he might as well not even have existed. Anyway. They spent a HUGE chunk of last season building up his arc, getting viewers invested in it, and then cast Rob Kazinsky. Which, hey, +infinity on that casting choice, because yes. So. Good buildup, good casting choice, and then...wow, way to drop the freaking ball. I think all of his scenes added together might equal 1-1/2 episodes. Out of 12. And mind you, I'm being generous there. And most of those scenes were spent tied to a gravestone on the fairy plane.

Um.

Wow. WOW. Seriously, TB, WTF?

Anyway! All that buildup and that's what we got. And then last night...20 minutes of amazing character development for him (and yes, I still liked him even though I knew it was coming sooner or later, and my god, Rob pulled that off amazingly well) and...

Well, I won't say, because I don't want to spoil anyone who a) hasn't seen it yet and b) hasn't already been spoiled, but we'll just say that's when I filed the divorce papers.

They had an amazing shot at a) a great character with a truly interesting story arc, b) a chance to redeem Sookie for every single bullshit decision she's made since S3 (and there have been a LOT, let's face it, the girl's been letting her vajayjay think for her and it's not worked out at all well), and c) a hell of a set-up for S7.

But nope. Not TB. Because the writers are on some serious f'n crack and every single one of them should be fired, because there are some really great writers out there that would sell their soul for a shot to work on an HBO series, but we get the same hacks. Whatever.

Worst abuse of deus ex machina ever.

Fast forward.

We get to the mid-way point of the episode and just no. Nope. Not even going there. And what pisses me off even more than what they did there (if you watched it, you know exactly what they did, but again, not spoiling it), is how HBO built it up over the last week. Really? You tease us with the fact that we MIGHT get a view of the 'gracious plenty' (if you've read the books, you know) -- because let's face it, that's ALL the female viewers of the show want, right? -- and that's how you deliver it? Again, WOW. Way to completely misread pretty much your entire fanbase. Not to mention seriously insulting our intellect.

Honestly, I could have went my entire life without seeing it if you had just shown a little intelligence in the last 60 minutes of S6. That's when I begged the judge to fast-track the divorce.

And the second half of the show? Yeah, all of that *points up* happened in the first 30 minutes, so there was even more bullshit to sit through. Anyway, second half?

Sweet baby Jesus, do NOT get me started. WTF did I watch?? I mean, the whole episode was like a poorly written fan fic of the show, but the last 30 minutes? That shit would be considered horrendous by fanfic.net standards, so that tells you something. Divorce finalized.

I spent the entire season wondering who these characters were because I didn't recognize any of them (except maybe Jason, who had some good scenes and some pretty good development in spots) and worse, I didn't care about any of them. Except Warlow. Because I still believed that they'd do something with him beyond what they did.

I just... *hands* Is this Alan Ball getting his revenge for every single time someone's called him a closet fanboy (he is, don't let him lie to you), an idiot, a hack, or someone who doesn't give a shit about his fans? Because they're all true. Is this somehow Charlaine Harris getting her revenge for the serious backlash she got on the last book where she character assassinated everyone and completely destroyed the last 7-8 books of buildup? If so, well played, Ms. Harris. I said when I found out how the book ended that I would never buy another thing you wrote. And now, I will never watch another ep of True Blood. Pretty sure I'm not the only one.

And I can tell you right now that the only things that would make me watch again are a) a public apology to the fans for the shit we've been fed the last 3 seasons and b) if the entire S6 finale was a dream. But I've seen that show. And JR Ewing doesn't live in Bon Temps.
...the fuck?, omgwtf?!?

I don't see how this can end well...

This is probably going to be of interest to about 3 of you. Maybe 4, I don't know. But, honestly, I was looking forward to a Tebow-less season. Y'all ain't EVEN know.

See, I'm from Florida. Jacksonville, to be precise. So I grew up around a LOT of Gator fans. My sister is one (even though she honestly doesn't know a quarterback from a quarter pounder). My mom's bff & her husband are ones. I work with several. They all seem to think that Tim can, no lie, literally walk on water.

My loathing for Tebow is pretty much endless at this point. I don't think he's a good QB, I've never thought he was a good QB, and I was happy I wasn't going to have to hear the collective sports journalists hang off his jock strap this year.

Well, that's all went to hell in a handbasket.

Just to put it in perspective, Tim grew up right down the beach from me. Literally. It's a 7ish mile difference. The local news ADORE him. And they talk about him. All. The. F'n. Time. Which means I not only get to hear about this shit on Sundays during the fall, but I get to hear about it every night.

They've already started, with the announcement on Monday that he was signing with the Pats. Honestly, I don't know WTF Bob Kraft & Bill Belichick were thinking. Especially considering he's officially on the roster (as of right now) as a QUARTERBACK.

Ugh.

Do not want.

And the fact that Belichick is already getting annoyed with the media obsession with Tebow is just... Put on your big girl panties and deal with it, Bill. You f'n wanted him there, so now you get the WHOLE circus.

Some people just DON'T fucking get it

Okay, so, y'know what?  I don't give a good goddamn that you've watched the leaked copy of Wolverine that is apparently floating around the internet.

I DO, however, give a serious damn about the fact that you had to go and post shit about it OUTSIDE of a fucking cut, which has effectively served to put things out there that are, y'know, SPOILERS.  Did it ever occur to your self-centered little pea brain that the rest of us might not want to KNOW any of this shit UNTIL we see it on the big screen next month?

Did it?  No, I didn't think so.

Kindly do the rest of us a favor and either put that shit BEHIND a cut and label it as spoilery (and YES, THAT'S A FUCKING SPOILER), or fuck off.

Yeah, I'm looking at YOU.  Dumbass.
spoiler free!

The world is full of f'n assholes

1) Using the title of an upcoming episode as the subject line for your post?  Not cool.

2) Posting a spoilery picture outside of a cut?  Really not cool.

3) Posting the episode synopsis outside of a cut?  Not fucking cool, at all.

4) Posting the titles for 2 other upcoming episodes in the post outside of a cut?  Not cool.

5) Posting "so and so is coming back!" outside of a cut?  Not cool.

6) To do so in a community that has 50,000 members and is watched by almost 48,000 of those? Completely, utterly, and unforgivably NOT FUCKING COOL.

Overall?  Your post is made entirely of fucking fail, asshole, and I hope you die in a fire.
Bitch please

Once more 'round the buoy

Okay, for those who keep MISTAKENLY using the phrase...and for the idiots in the cheap seats...

The Dark Knight is NOT the "2nd highest grossing movie of all time."

That honor STILL belongs to The Return of the King, with $1.1 BILLION.  And if you adjust for inflation, TDK isn't even in the top 10.

It's the 2nd highest grossing US release of all time.  But, again, adjust for inflation and it isn't.  Again, not even in the top 10.

Now.  For those of you saying it's going to "beat" Titanic at the box office.  Think again.  In order to take over the #2 highest of all time (thus beating ROTK), it will have to do another $162+ million.  That's just to beat ROTK.  To beat Titantic?

Another $868,617,337.00 to beat it by $1.  That's almost another $900 MILLION, people.  Which is almost as much as it's already made world-wide.  And with the DVD rumored to be out in very early December, that just ISN'T going to happen.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed TDK (more than I thought I would, to be honest).  But it just is NOT going to dethrone Titanic.  And I think all the extremely scary "OMG TDK IS THE BEST MOVIE EVAR!!!!!1!!!!111!!" fanatics out there are going to have to be happy with it unseating POTC2 as the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time, because I'm not sure it'll do another $162+ million at the box office to beat out ROTK.

ETA: Oh, and my non-J2 challenge fic? Gonna be late. I just don't have the energy to do the edits tonight.

Mini-rant #846532

Repeat after me: weary and wary are not the same word. They do not mean the same thing. Ever.

If you are weary, you are tired, exhausted, worn out, so go get some fucking rest.

If you are wary, you're very cautious, so pay close attention that nothing bad happens or blows up in your face.

Get it? Got it? Good. Learn them. Make them your best fucking friend, because I (and I'm sure a LOT of others) are so far beyond sick of you using the wrong fucking word that I'm ready to do physical violence to you if you do it again.
fuck off, my fandom...

Could you BE any more blatant?

This is a rewrite of a romance novel.

Um, yeah, no shit. Actually, it's more of a full lift with just names changed. Oh, and gender, since the original book was M/F. And yes, I know you mention that you 'stole' it, but how about disabling comments instead of having everyone praise you and request more of a story that isn't even yours?

Face it. No matter what spin you put on it, you are now a plagiarist. Do everyone a favor and stop 'rewriting' published works and come up with your own ideas.

P.S. - If you're a 'fan' or minion of the 'writer' in question, don't bother trying to flame me here. You'll only provide hours of amusement for me and the actual writers on my flist, kthxbye.
fuck off, my fandom...

Warning: Unpopular opinion ahead!

Okay, so this WGA strike?

...

I just want to go on record as saying that no, I don't support it.

Yes, I support them getting paid fairly for their work. Yes, I support them working out a new contract so that happens. No, I do not support any outrageous demands they have for jacking that pay up exponentially. No, I do NOT support this strike at all.

The below-the-line workers - the PAs, camera men, riggers, lighting & sound techs, grips, catering & craft services, secrataries, and so forth - are the ones suffering for it. They are being laid off all over the city, severely damaging an already soft job market, and many of them may not have jobs to return to when the strike is finally over. Many of them may not even have homes or cars by then. These people have families to support and don't make nearly the money that the writers do. Yet they had no say in a decision that has impacted their lives so severely.

Agree with me, don't agree with me, I don't really care. This is my opinion and I stand by it.

For all you non-L.A. people who are all in support of this? You come sit in my office, fronting Hollywood Blvd, and listen to the GODDAMN HORNS OF THE IDIOTS IN THEIR CARS AS THEY DRIVE BY THE BUILDING BECAUSE YES, WE ARE BEING PICKETED BECAUSE MAD TV IS FILMING HERE TODAY.

Assholes.

I want to shove a spork in ALL their eyes.

ETA: Just so we're all on the same page, I don't support strikes in general. If they only affected the people striking and the people they were striking against, sure. But I have problems when a small (in relation) group can impact so many lives in a very negative fashion, especially when so many people in this country already live at or below the poverty level. I feel that unions have outlived their usefulness in this country, and this ETA is not up for debate, guys.

ETA2: Soap Writers Cross the Picket Line - While I'm surprised it's happened this early, I figured it was only a matter of time. And, honestly, it's just a matter of time before other writers starting going fi-core.
