1. verb, informal To be afflicted by intense or stifling heat. The air conditioner broke right in the middle of the heat wave, so we've just been stewing in the house all week long.
2. verb, informal To be in a state of intense worry, anxiety, or agitation. He's been in his room stewing all evening. Whatever happened has really gotten to him, huh? Look, stewing about the problem isn't going to solve it. Let's start being a bit more proactive!
3. noun, informal A state of intense worry, anxiety, or agitation. Mom is in a stew because all our relatives suddenly decided to come visit us three days from now. Try not to get into a stew about the trip, all right? Everything will be fine.
