bi

1. adjective Bisexual; romantically or sexually attracted to both males and females. I had boyfriends all throughout high school and college, but I'm finding myself really attracted to a woman at the gym. I think I might be bi. Yeah, he's married to a woman now, but I'm pretty sure he's bi. He introduced me to a boyfriend a few years ago. Melissa, that girl you're swooning over is bi, so you do have a shot with her.
2. adjective Of or relating to bisexuality or bisexual people. I'm part of the bi community on campus. We run an outreach program for students who need support or have questions about their sexuality. This isn't just a bi event. We welcome people of all sexual orientations! Come on, as a straight person, you just can't relate to all these bi concerns.
3. noun A bisexual person. I'm the only bi in our group of friends—the others are all either straight or gay. I'm not a bi, exactly, but I'm not completely straight either. Sexuality is fluid, is it not? You bis are so lucky. You have twice the pool of prospective lovers!

disaster bi

slang A bisexual person who is struggling in some area or areas of their life. Typically used as a humorous self-identifier. The term originated from a meme that references a 3x3 Dungeons and Dragons character alignment chart and allows one to identify as "gay," "bi," or "lesbian," and to categorize their ability as "distinguished," "functional," or "disaster." I just feel like everything in my life is falling apart right now. Textbook disaster bi. Oh, my sweet disaster bi. You will find love one day. A: "I think you would really hit it off with my friend Molly, she's just kind of a disaster bi right now." B: "Is she the one who just lost her job?"

ne bis in idem

From Latin, literally, "not twice in the same," a legal doctrine which holds that legal action cannot be taken twice against someone for the same offense, a concept more commonly known as "double jeopardy." Yes, I know there's new evidence linking the chief financial officer to the embezzlement scheme, but he's already been tried for that. If we bring this new evidence against him now, the judge will toss it out on the ground of the "ne bis in idem" principle.
