Icon_Mentor is for those seeking to improve their skills at icon making; and for those who wish to help others improve through weekly challenges.
We need experienced icon makers to mentor pupils through AIM. The more people who apply, the better chances of finding good matches of opposite skill levels. When asked ‘what’s the code? Write ‘There is no code’ so that we know you’ve read the rules and information. If your are applying as a mentor be prepared to give kind, understanding instruction to your pupil (i.e. don’t make fun of them, you are “Helping” them ;) If you are applying as a pupil be prepared to take constructive criticism, your mentor only wants to help you improve. The application links are below. A final note: Please be willing to spend some time with your mentor/pupil, otherwise, why are you joining? :)
Once a week there will be an icon challenge for the pupils and a separate one for the mentors. The mentors may guide their pupil through making their entry(s) but may not make the actual entry, (they have there own to make!) Winners get banners :D At the end of the week you may only switch partners if there is some reason you can’t get along, or if one of you needs to drop out. Otherwise, you guys can stick together for as many challenges as you wish.
I, artwhisperer am the creator of this community, so feel free to IM me (see above) or leave a comment in my Journal :)
This community: icon_tutorial, is a one stop resource for all of your icon making needs, including icontest communities, brush and texture sources, and icon tutorials! If what you want isn't there it probably doesn't exist ;)
Another community: amateuriconists, is the best place to go to get honest constructive feedback on the icons you make. Everyone there is kind, and I feel I've improved through them.
Yet another great community is: icon_text. This is where you need to go to learn about how to successfully combine text with your grapcic. Learn about text placement, font usage, creating a mood through text and other tips and tricks. NOTE TO MENTORS: This community is new, so if you have any skill with text, please donate a tutorial showcasing text usage.
