iChat AV

is anyone else using os x on a powerbook g4 having problems with iChat &AIM?
AIM will show the "checking username &password" screen for a while, then sign me in &show me no buddy list.
as for iChat, it says "connecting" for a while, then tells me i'm available, but alas, shows me no buddy list.
i've been talking to a few of my friends with macs and they seem to be having the same or a similar problem.
i've been checking the AIM and iChat support stuff but have seen no sign of an answer.
any ideas?

Do you all have a tutorial for using iChat AV, including how to get your Windows XP people connected?

I'm ready to purchase an iSight, yet need to recommend a good, yet basic, webcam for my sister.

We want to use both audio and video features.

Any suggestions for 'cams that have had successful AV chats?


If our test works, we will bring in the rest of our family.

ok, im very new to the iSight, and just mac in general.
what i want to know is, how can i take pictures with the iSight. haha, it might sound stupid, but i have no clue how to.

I'm getting an Ibook in a few weeks (wooo!) and as I'm off to university this year I was considering getting an Isight. All my friends have Windows, so would they be able to see/hear me through the Isight or is it Mac-only? If it is Mac-only, then if I bought a different Mac-compatible webcam would they be able to see me through Ichat/AIM? And I know this isn't related to Ichat, but do Isights work in MSN? (Sorry I couldn't find an Isight specific community to ask this!)

i'll be honest, i don't have iChat AV or any of that fancy crap. i just got plain ol' iChat instant messenger service. i'm not looking for any fancy friends, i'm just looking for witty people who can have entire conversations using only iChat smiley emoticons. game?

On iChatAV when someone has an isight or other camera hooked up shouldnt other ichat users see the camera icon instead of the audio (phone) icon? That is how it is shown on apples site.

But, I have an isight plugged in and people still just see the phone icon. Any ideas why?

Green Day - Insomniac - Panic Song

I just got an isight today. I love it. The quality is great. My question is, does anyone know how to set up a camera site? I just want to be able to add video to a personal site. I'd like to be able to do it on my own, without the use of an outside program. But, suggestions involving outside programs are also welcome. Any help is appreciated.


Also, I am having trouble connecting to my boyfriend. He is on Windows XP with the newest version of AIM downloaded and also the extra patch that is recommended. He gets my request for the video chat and accepts it and then it just doesn't do anything. On my end it says 'starting video chat' and never actually starts it. Any suggestions? He's already made sure the ports are available and firewalls are all off.
