HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE!

I'm writing a monologue for a Christmas Showcase. The basis of the monologue is "Why Santa Is a Woman."

I've come up with some pretty good reasons, such as "Men are more interested in peeling stockings off than filling them up."

Can anyone come up with any other suggestions? Although that one is about as sexual as I can go, this is a High School performance, lol.

I’m in charge of my dressing rooms at my high school. Recently I have decided to section the girl's dresses by period. The only problem is most of the people who use the room have no idea what section is dedicated to which decade, since they often can’t tell from looking at the clothes themselves. I would love for me not to have to be there for every single time someone needs a costume.

Basically I am looking for two things.

One, does anyone know where I could find those little hanger things that don’t actually hold cloths but attached to the top of the hook is a small section where you could write something like “20’s, 30’s, 40’s” I think a lot of time they are used in stores (I know American Eagle has them on their sales racks) to section off sizes, usually on a circular rack.

If you don’t know where I could find those, does anyone have any other ideas about how I could label the sections without just taking a label maker and sticking a label on the edge of the wooden shelf above the racks.

Alrighty, so, our theatre group is in major need of some cash, blah blah blah....same old story, i know.

Everyone is sick and tired of selling old granny jewelry and candles, so we're trying to come up with fun fundraising ideas that will work. One girl brought up the idea of doing a type of fine arts camp/workshop on Saturdays in the afternoon for junior high and freshmen students (in our town the freshmen are at their own school).

But, here's the deal, since we are trying to raise money, we have very limited funds. But we do have a lot of man power to run different classes. I think it is a great idea, if we can get it organized and such. I'm putting myself in charge, so I need help!

Any ideas for classes, suggestions for organzing, maybe even a different fundraising idea....I NEED YOUR HELP!

Okay, so I'm auditioning for the play, The Man Who Came To Dinner, which is a wickedly awesome show about a famous radio broadcaster who is invited to a house of the socialites of a small suburb in Ohio.  Whiteside (the broadcaster) is a big town guy, and HATES the family.  He ends up breaking his ankle in the beginning of the show and he has to stay at the family's house until he is recovered.  While there he gets a couple outlandish packages delivered to him, as well as a plethora of visitors, all of which drives the family CRAZY.  Anyways so he finds out that one of the family members was an axe murderer, so he blackmails the family into letting him stay longer.  And a bunch of other things happen as well.



The monologue for the audition is about a wife, speaking to her husband, about his dead ex-wife who is in for a visit as a ghost.  The wife is screaming at the husband, and refers to a photograph of his ex.

my question is- For my audition would it be okay if I brought in a picture frame to use as a prop, because when I've been practicing, it's a lot more convincing when I am actually holding a picture frame in my hands, than when I am pantomiming it.

Alrighty, so I need some advice. After auditions for Paganini, my director came up to me and said "I'm considering you for two different parts. I can't decide. Since you are the senior and this is your last show, I'll let you pick which one you want"

I thought, hey, this is sweet, I get to pick my part! But alas, no, it is not so sweet....

Now I don't know which part I want. I can either choose the female semi-lead. She falls in love with the main guy at the beginning, but then cheats on him with a solider and the main guy kills her. Well, then she comes back to haunt him for the rest of the show (along with girls he kills throughout the rest of the show). I would love this part because it is the female lead and I would get to die onstage, which I have never done before.

I could be a supporting role where I would get to play 4 different parts throughout the show. However, they are fairly small parts (since this is a one act, 40 minutes) so 3 of the characters are in only 1 scene, and the other character is in 3 scenes. This part would be fun to play with because it's 4 totally different characters, but they are smaller roles. I also realize that this is my senior year, my last chance to be in UIL One Act, so I want to go out with a bang.

I'm in a pickle. I know it's all up to me, but I would just like some advice, if you have any!

Alrighty, so found out our UIL One Act this year: Paganini. I'm a little disappointed because it's my last one, and the girl parts aren't as big, but I'm hoping it will all work out. Anyways....

What tips would you give for the show. I know what it's about because I've read my director's cutting of the script (I helped him cut it); however, I have never EVER seen a (I'm butchering the spelling I know) commedia del arte type play. He wants it over the top, vaudevilletype acting, and I've never done or seen a show like that. What tips could you give for that?

Also, I'm shooting for the part of Angelina, and hopefully since I'm a senior I can get it, but does anybody know about her?

Hey, new person here! *waves* My name's Suzy, i'm 15, i live in Wombourne (randomly huge village in the Black Country) and I LOVE drama, theatre and anything to do with it. Since coming into High School I've been in Joseph (like everyone else on the planet) and I'm currently in "Oh what a lovely war". I suppose that doesn't sound like much but i'm a founding member in Ounsdale's own theatre group "Shakes 'n' Speares" which whom I'm helped devise this TIE thing called "They had it coming". 

With another group i've done two pantomimes *cringe* Robin Hood - an amazing success, had the time of my life! And Aladdin: I half produced/directed with the help of the wonderful Sarah Smith we put it together in 5 weeks! It was an amazing night - we did crap but neither the audience or us cared! They loved it and so did we! Hopefully this year (if it ever goes ahead) it'll go better, me and a load of mates have put a fairy tale themed... thing and I hope it goes well! 

And I must apoligize for my generally amateurness but there's always been sucess and my productions have been the best times of my life. I'm so glad to have found this community and also if any of you happen to be around Ounsdale High School in Wombourne nr Wolverhampton from the 29th Nov. to 1st Dec. then come and see "oh what a lovely war" - I'll give you further details when I get them.

I am at the International Thespian Festival in Nebraska right now, and it is amazing!! Is anyone else there, or have been there? I have seen some amazing monologues performed and I was wondering if you guys could help me. The monologue was a guy talking about how his roommate or someone ate the last can of the Chunky Turkey Soup and was freaking out about it saying how he has all sorts of kinds of soups but the tukey is his favorite and whatnot.....

Hey all,
  I have just been cast as Whitney in the play A Piece of My Heart. We haven't recieved scripts yet so I don't know much about my character and I'm very curious. All that I do know is that she is a Vassar graduate who has to tell her parents about her plans to help out with the war and they don't approve because she was supposed to be a headmaster. She also turns into an alcoholic and joins AA after awhile. Thats about all I know about this character so if anyone has read the script or has been a part of it, ANY information regarding Whitney's character is greatly appreciated (info like role size, who she interacts with the most out of the characters, her personality, all that good stuff)
