Letter Challenge
Title of Drabble: I'm Still Here
Rating: PG
Pairings: N/A
Word count: 494
Warnings: None really...Although it's going off on a limb because it's mostly about the Black sisters, of whom we know very little.
Summary: After hearing of Lucius Malfoy's arrest at the Ministry of Magic, and that Bellatrix Lestrange evaded capture, Andromeda writes Narcissa a letter, expressing her concerns.
Dear Narcissa,
Upon hearing of your husband's imprisonment, I couldn't help but wonder how you are doing. I realize it’s a little late for sisterly concern at this point in time, but please hear me out.
You're probably expecting an "I told you so", so I'll get that part out of the way as quickly and painlessly as I can. I did warn you that marrying Lucius Malfoy meant your husband would be risking his life for whatever You-Know-Who wanted to accomplish, and now he's in Azkaban. I'm just glad that you were kept out of it for the most part. I wouldn't want you to come to harm because of their selfishness and bigotry. Okay, I realize that the "bigotry" point is where you and I fundamentally differ in opinion, but I have something to ask you that goes beyond that sort of thing.
You'll probably think I'm interfering, as I know I always hated it when someone criticized the way I raised my daughter. But I sincerely hope you are not encouraging your son to follow in his father's footsteps. Is that what you really want for his future? Torturing and killing people, breaking the law, possibly getting imprisoned or killed... and all for some megalomaniac's personal revenge upon the world! Is that what you really want for your son?
Since I know that the Lestranges' home was sold years ago, one might assume that Bellatrix, her husband and brother-in-law are staying with you, or at the very least, are in contact with you.
Her actions and convictions are indicative of an unbalanced person. I realize that she and Malfoy are both on the same "team", but the difference between them is unmistakable. At least your husband appears to have some sense about him. Bellatrix was unstable before being incarcerated, and I can only imagine what 14 years in Azkaban has done to her.
I realize that she's not about to go hopping over to St. Mungo's, and you're unlikely to even respond to this letter or acknowledge anything I've said, but please try to get her some help. She's a danger to those around her and a danger to herself, and she might listen to you.
I might disagree with your choices and opinions, but that doesn't mean I ever stopped caring. I decided I wanted something different in life, and I couldn't stick with those who wouldn't support me in that decision. But I never wanted to see my sisters come to any great harm.
So I ask you again, please do what you can to help her. And if you ever need my help, or someone to talk to, I am still here.
We are who we are, and I doubt either of us are likely to change our minds about some things, but I know you and I don’t hate each other. Please think about all that I've said.
Thank you.
Your sister,
Andromeda Tonks
