There's a Light

"Pathetic," Draco muttered, watching the spectacle with growing dislike.

Harry nudged him with his shoulder, the box in his pocket weighing a ton. "Hey, quiet. They're cute."

Draco scoffed. "If by cute, you mean wasteful. They'll be off on their honeymoon now, likely to create their first child. Then the next and then before you know it, we'll have more red heads running around."

Harry sighed and left Draco to his sulking. He hugged Ron. "Congratulations, mate."

Ron beamed. "Thanks!"

There was a sudden commotion by the doors of the church and they both turned to see Hermione toss the bouquet over her head. Girls pushed and yelled, but all of them watched in amazement when the bouquet went over them and landed in Draco's surprised hands. Ron laughed. "You're next."

Harry gulped and his hand went to his pocket. "Right."

Ron and Hermione got into her parents' car--on loan since the attendees were a mix of Muggles and wizards--and drove off to yells of well-wishing and good-lucks. Harry was left standing with Draco, nervous. "It's over."

"Good." Draco pursed his lips. "All of this nonsense for what--another shining star for the Ministry to use as a symbol of the recovery."

"But they're in love," Harry protested.

"Sure, maybe," Draco said. "Doesn't matter, it's done. Let's go."

"Wait, Draco, I have something I want to ask."

Draco frowned. "Potter, you better not be..." Harry opened the box and Draco pinched his nose between his fingers. "I can't believe you."

Harry shrugged. "I love you, Draco. I'd like to make it official."

"With another wedding? You're just following in everyone's footsteps."

"So keep the damn box and we'll plan for a wedding five years from now."

"And let you be snatched up by some conniving harpy? No, you're mine." Draco took the ring from it's cushioned bed and studied it. "That must have cost you a fortune."

"Came from the family vaults," Harry admitted. "It's been checked for curses or everything. It's just a plain platinum ring with a diamond set into it."

Draco slid onto his fingers with a smile and pulled Harry close. "You've just found yourself engaged, Mr. Potter."

Harry beamed and kissed Draco. "Brilliant."

There was a rumble of thunder and they both looked up. "Bugger," Harry said. Draco frowned and took out his wand.

"Just as I thought," Draco said. "Too much electricity in the air to Apparate."

"I think there's a hotel down the road some of the Muggle guests were staying at," Harry said.

Rain started falling and Draco sighed. "If we must."

~~~
It got dark very quickly and though Harry thought they were going in the right direction, neither he nor Draco knew where they were. They were still on the road, but there were no signs of houses, never mind a hotel. Draco was cursing Harry under his breath and Harry was considering going back.
"We could just ask the Vicar there for help," Harry suggested.
"And get more lost? I think not, Potter." Draco stopped and peered into the distance. "There's a light over there."
Harry wiped his eyes and saw where Draco was pointing. A sudden bolt of lightning lit up the house. "You mean over at the Frankenstein place."
"The what place?" Draco shook his head. "Come on. They should have a room for us to use until the storm lets up."
Harry sighed as his magic tingled. He didn't like it, but they didn't have another choice. As they approached, they noticed several people appearing out of nowhere, all wearing cloaks. "Looks like it's owned by wizards at least."
"Good, maybe they'll have a Floo," Draco said fiercely.
At the door, they dried themselves and then knocked. It was answered by a man who looked rather bedraggled and on his last coin. "Yes?"
"Hi, I'm Harry--" Harry swore under his breath as Draco subtly nudged him. "Evans. This is my fiance, Dale Black. We're hoping we could use your...telephone. We got lost you see and..."
"It's a very wet night," the man said out of nowhere. "You must be soaked. Come in."
Harry gulped and Draco clung to his jacket as they entered the house. It was cluttered even though there was a large amount of space. "Nice place." There was a sudden burst of light from further inside the house. "Having a party? We just came from a wedding ourselves."
"We are having a little...get together," the man said. "You've actually arrived on a...special night. We could in fact use two extra if you'd like to come."
"Your telephone?" Draco pushed from behind Harry's shoulder.
"We don't have one," a woman said from their right, making them jump. She unfolded herself from the handrail where she had been sitting.
"Wizards then," Draco said. "Your Floo?"
"Not hooked up," the woman said.
"A room then?" Harry asked. "For the night?"
"Or at least until the storm passes," Draco said.
"You're very lucky, you know," the man said.
"We're all lucky," the woman cackled.
Harry felt a spell being cast out from the general direction of the music and the man started...singing and dancing and Harry wondered if they had better just turn around. He did, but the woman had started, too. Draco pressed himself flat against Harry's back and then they were in a ballroom where everyone else was doing the strange dance.
"Let's do the time warp again!"
When everyone had fallen down, Draco said, "We need to go."
"They might do more folk dancing," Harry said, trying to be diplomatic since they had gotten looks when Draco had spoken.
"Folk dancing?! Potter, I learned how to dance when I was eight! I know folk dancing and that is not it! Now, we are leaving and if we splinch ourselves, I don't care. We. Are. Going!"
There was a sudden clang behind them and they turned to see a man, still in a cloak, in an old fashioned elevator. "So soon? You haven't seen our main show."
Harry frowned when his magic reacted violently when the man walked closer. "Sorry, we were just looking for a telephone or a Floo. We got lost, you see."
The man raised an eyebrow. "Really? Well, I'm afraid you'll have to spend the night waiting out the storm. We don't have either and I couldn't let you leave in such bad weather."
Draco glared at Harry and Harry subtly shrugged. The man turned to the people waiting in the hall. "The time has come! You've done well, all of you." His voice dropped to a deathly whisper. "He's here."
The group tittered and swept out of the hall. The man smiled. "You may call me Frank. I'll be...conducting the ceremonies tonight. Come up and see. You will be surprised." He left the same way he came, through the elevator.
Harry and Draco were left with three people--the two from the door and another. The third was a young girl with a manic look in her eye that reminded Harry of Bellatrix. She smiled. "You're very lucky. He doesn't often allow outsiders upstairs."
"Columbia, upstairs now," the woman from the door hissed. Columbia growled and stormed off. The woman smiled at them. "Your clothes are still wet. Rather bad storm."
In short order, Harry and Draco were being undressed, losing their wands in the process. "Hey, wait!" Draco reached for his wand, but it disappeared.
The man shot off a full body bind on them both and Harry groaned inside. He just knew that when they got out of this, he was going to be sleeping on the couch for a month. The woman redressed them in simple tunics that reached their knees and nodded. "We're expected. Hang tight."
~~~

They Apparated into what looked like an operating theater. Still bound, he couldn't see much, but he noted that everyone they had seen so far was in the room. All of the people who had been in the ballroom were on a balcony, looking over and talking among themselves. Harry and Draco were directed to a spot only a few feet away from the operating table.

Frank was standing at the head of it, now without his cloak and smiling. "What we are doing tonight is of the utmost importance. We all--" He swept his arm around the room, at everyone present. "--have been waiting so patiently and now we are rewarded." He looked at Harry and Draco. "The spell you saw when you came in, it was designed by our Lord, to bring him back.

"Back from where you might ask? From the past! It was a time slip, you see. That spell allowed us to open a pocket in time and bring our Lord back from the instant he died."

Frank nodded at the two from the front door. "Magenta, Riff Raff." They took up positions they seemed to know, one at a wheel set into the wall and the other at something that looked like an electric generator. "Columbia." The girl moved next to Frank, at a table with instruments.

"Tonight, we bring back Lord Voldemort! May he live forever!"

Harry froze in fear. It couldn't be. No.

The sheet was lifted off the table which turned out to be a giant tank and filled with a substance that looked thick. The lights were dimmed as Magenta started turning her wheel and Riff Raff flicked some switches. A bulb near the tank lit up and Frank directed it into the tank. He held out his hand and Columbia handed him a scalpel. Frank sliced his hand and watched the blood flow into the tank. Next was a bit of hair from Columbia and skin from Magenta. Riff Raff spit into it and then Frank lifted his wand.

A purple glow filled the room and everyone was chanting. Harry felt the magic in the room being directed toward the tank. After a few moments of the chanting, a hand reached up to grip the edge of the tank.

A body rose up and a face that still occasionally haunted Harry's nightmares appeared.

Lord Voldemort had risen again.

He smiled and Columbia put a robe on Voldemort's shoulders. "Oh, my loyal followers. You have achieved what I couldn't. I will thank you when the world is ours."

A door suddenly blasted open to Harry's right and a body lumbered out of it. Voldemort hissed as he stepped out of the tank. "A failure of yours, Frank?"

Frank flushed and bowed his head. "Forgive me, my lord. I would have disposed of him, but Columbia cared deeply for him. I had hoped that in time I could...repair it."

"In time, we may have use for the project." Voldemort beckoned the creature closer and Harry frowned--he could have sworn it resembled a rocker he had seen on the telly once. Meatloaf?

"Yes, useful," Voldemort said. He held out his hand and Frank gave him his wand. A quick spell and the body was frozen, stored back in the wall. Voldemort turned to Harry and smiled. "How fortunate you are here, Harry. You can do nothing, now. The prophecy has been fulfilled."

He turned to Magenta and Riff Raff. "Show them to a room. Keep our guests in the best suit. Tonight, we shall celebrate."

~~~
In their room, Harry was silent and Draco was fuming. "I should have known! You can't go anywhere without him tagging along, can you?"
Harry blinked. "Er, what?"
His lover crossed his arms, frowning. "Please. Wherever you go in life, he's sure to follow."
"Hey, this isn't my fault!" Harry yelled as he stood.
Draco scoffed. "Of course not."
"Do I look like the kind of idiot who thinks that Voldemort should be resurrected?"
Draco was silent as he thought that over. "I suppose not. You're the kind of idiot who would be on the front lines against him, though." He pointed a finger in Harry's face. "I won't let you! Just so we're clear on that. You are not going back to fight him."
Harry was confused, but decided it was a long day and he must not be hearing Draco right. "Okay." He looked around the room properly. "Well, this may not be the best place we've stayed in, but it is certainly nice."
"And they've given us a bed." Draco sat on it, bouncing a few times. He waggled his eyebrows. "Fancy a turn on it?"
Harry's mouth fell open in shock. "What? We're in the middle of the resurrection party for one of the darkest wizards that has walked the earth and you want to stop for a shag?"
Draco shrugged, unrepentant. "Why not? We have nothing else to do and I'm sure it would give Voldemort a bad turn to know we're not thinking of turning over his reign."
Harry thought about it and unfortunately, his hormones were ruling over his common sense. They hadn't had many moments to themselves with the wedding and his training. He joined Draco on the bed. Draco beamed and pushed Harry back, climbing on top. His kiss was bruising and his hands rough, but Harry was loving it.
~~~

Their afterglow was interrupted by the arrival of Magenta. She was smirking as their undress. "Our Lord wishes to see you. Preferably with clothes." She left, but the door was open and they knew she was waiting for them outside the door.

Harry flushed and scrabbled along the floor. Where had his tunic gone to? Draco groaned. "Will we ever get a moment of peace?"

Pausing as he pulled on his pants--how had they ended up on a lamp shade?--to think. "We could become hermits up in Scotland?"

"What? You're insane, Potter. Don't know why I'm marrying you."

Harry shrugged. "Because I'm insane?"

Draco glared at him, pulling on his own clothes. Dressed, they followed Magenta down several flights to a large dining hall. Several tables were set and everyone who had been at the resurrection was sitting already. It was loud and boisterous, obviously celebrating. Magenta led Harry and Draco up to the table where Voldemort was waiting as was... "Dumbledore?" Harry asked in surprise.

Dumbledore nodded. "Indeed. I had heard rumors of some powerful magic happening here. I decided to investigate."

Harry frowned. Voldemort hissed. "Rumors, Dumbledore? I'm sure you suspected more than that and that is why you sent Mr. Potter here. Once he saw me, he sent you a message."

"I assure you I had no idea Harry would be here," Dumbledore said with complete sincerity.

"Not that it matters," Voldemort said with a sinister smile. "The prophecy was fulfilled. Mr. Potter here is useless as a weapon to you, Dumbledore."

"He was never a weapon, Tom," Dumbledore replied.

Voldemort hissed again and waved to the servants who were waiting. Dinner was served up and conversation halted momentarily. The others continued to talk loudly and magic was flying around the room. Harry hoped they wouldn't be going out on a raid--he knew it would end badly and would spread rumors that were not needed, not with the Wizarding world only just settled again.

"So it is a full return?" Dumbledore asked eventually.

Voldemort smiled. "Of course. Frank is very good at what he does."

"I do recall hearing stories of his monster being set loose on a particular town," Dumbledore said.

Frank's eyes were narrowed. "Stories, nothing more."

Dumbledore nodded. "This is a lovely meal, but perhaps we can talk where it is less noisy?"

"What are you planning, Dumbledore? You are not here for small talk."

"I could say the same for you, Tom. Serving dinner to your enemies?"

There was a heavy silence, during which Dumbledore gazed with curiosity at Voldemort who looked back with contempt. Voldemort stood up and waved his wand. The revelers quieted at once.

"My friends, tonight is our night! Go and remind those weaklings what they should never have forgotten!"

Cheers rose up louder than before and in moments, they could all hear the cracks of Apparations and some even flew off on their brooms. Soon, the only ones who remained were those who had been at Voldemort's table. Voldemort bared his teeth in a flash. "It's quiet now, Dumbledore. Say what you want."

"You don't want to hear what I have to say," Dumbledore said quietly.

A sense of urgency was rising in Harry and he wished he had his wand. He knew this wasn't going to end well and it didn't; Voldemort turned his wand on Harry and Draco and they were both stunned.

~~~
When he came to, he was bound and outdoors. He looked around in a daze and noted now without the storm--of course, now it had passed a voice sounding like Draco said in Harry's head--it was a full moon. As his head cleared fully, he found Draco, a foot away from him, bound upright to a pillar. Which explained why his back and shoulders were screaming in protest--Harry must be bound in a similar way.
He couldn't see Dumbledore and that worried Harry. What happened to his former headmaster? Had Voldemort finally killed him?
A sudden cacophony came over the hills and a rush of people were settling on the ground before Harry. Or rather before the platform he was on. They must have been the wizards and witches who had been at the castle, but hadn't they gone out to disturb the wizarding world? Or had he been out longer than he thought?
"Awake, Mr. Potter?" Voldemort asked as he walked forward.
Harry decided to not answer that, but unfortunately, Draco groaned as he, too, woke up. Voldemort turned his attentions to him. "You traitor."
Draco scoffed. "Traitor? Me? I rather think that was you, destroying so many of our children--our hope! You could have taken them and used them if you had had any brains left in your head!"
"Crucio!"
Draco was screaming and it burned into Harry's soul. It was a sound he didn't want to ever hear again. Voldemort turned to his waiting audience. "Tonight, we shall complete my rebirth with a proper sacrifice. A blood sacrifice!"
The crowd cheered and Voldemort chuckled. He turned to Harry. "You, Harry Potter, will be the first. You have been the cause of so much failure in my life, but no more."
"I rather think your sick obsession with him did that," Draco coughed weakly. Harry's heart thudded in his chest--what was Draco doing? Draco smirked at Voldemort. "You're just a weak wizard."
"Silence!" Voldemort yelled. "You know nothing, child! You were not there to witness the beginning of the crumbling of our society! You didn't see pureblood traditions fall away in favor of Muggle holidays!"
"Nor will you see it return."
As one, they turned to see Riff Raff and Magenta, wands out, defying Voldemort. "What?" Voldemort yelled. "You turn on me?"
"We've never been on your side," Magenta said.
"Spies!" Voldemort hissed. "Traitors!"
Riff Raff scoffed. "We can't be when we never betrayed our cause." He waved his wand and a ribbon of fire shot out, surrounding Voldemort. Voldemort yelled as his robes caught on fire and cast an Augamenti, but the fire instead latched onto his hand. "What is this?" he yelled.
"A spell a villager had created to stop a monster brought back from the dead," Riff Raff said with a smile.
Voldemort's eyes flashed. "Frank! What have you done?"
Frank, however, was nowhere to be seen. As Riff Raff continued to cast fire at Voldemort, Magenta freed Harry and Draco. She pressed a battered pair of glasses in their hands and their wands. "Go, this will take you to the Ministry. They know what's going on." She winked and the port key was activated.
~~~

After a long interrogation session at the Ministry, Harry and Draco were allowed to go home. They had found out what had happened--Frank had promised to bring Voldemort back, but used the same means that his great-grandfather had. Instead of bringing Voldemort's soul back into a living body, it was put into a dead one, essentially creating an Inferi. Inferi were vulnerable to flame and so the spell.

The Aurors had been on stand by and those who had been there to support Voldemort had been arrested, their senses dulled by alcohol and the night's events.

"I am never letting you leave the house again," Draco swore as they got ready for bed.

Harry frowned. "What do you mean?"

Draco raised an eyebrow. "You are a magnet for Voldemort's crazy followers, that's what. They always seem to find you."

"You can't just lock me up for the rest of my life, Draco," Harry said. He pulled back the bed sheets and slid in. He patted the spot next to him.

"There's a ring in the Malfoy vaults that we can give our spouses," Draco said. "It allows us to find our spouse within moments and prevents kidnapping."

"Were many of the Malfoy spouses kidnapped then?" Harry asked, curious. "If so, well, then maybe I am destined to marry you. After all, I do get kidnapped quite a lot."

Draco growled and pounced on Harry. "The only one who will be kidnapping you is me, Potter. You best remember that."

Harry grinned. "And then?"

"Why don't I show you?"
