be yourself is the worst advice

Mommies in Clear Lake

Playgroups are a great way for kids to learn to socialize, share with others and be exposed to new ways of play. It’s great for Mom too! You'll meet other moms in the area and share advice and stories. We are a small playgroup so members and their children can get to know each other better and see the same faces at Playdates. This helps kids build confidence so they can build friendships. We meet every mom in person before allowing them to access the group. This ensures the privacy of our members and group information.

We offer:

~Free membership
~3-4 playdates a week
~Opportunities to build friendships for your child(ren) AND yourself
~A forum to chat about everyday life or parenting questions.
~ Coupon Train
~ Book Club

Fun things we do include:

~Potluck parties (for the entire family, not just mom & kids)
~Mom’s Night Out
~Coffee dates
~Beach/Park dates
~Venues such as The Space Center, Zoo, Libraries
~Lunch dates @ kid friendly areas
~Gathering at members homes for crafts, snacks & play time

Email us at MommiesinClearLake@gmail.com or visit https://www.bigtent.com/groups/micl and we will get back to you with information about upcoming playdates!

A moment to introduce myself..

I'm new to the community and looking to make some new friends with the same interest's as me. In this case, the most important interest in the world, OUR KIDS! I am the proud Mommy of two girls, 10 and 8, and a little boy who's 2, although he's more the size of a 4 year old. lol..

I work a lot, unfortunately, but when Im not working Im with my babies. We are always looking for some fun to get in to.

Anyway, I'd like to meet some other parents in the area. Talking about our kids or not, I think that parents have a different thought process and can understand each other easier.

FRIEND ME?? ;)

Question for everyone...

If you were to take your kids to a Gymboree or Kindermusik class, how would you feel if the teacher had their own children there in class? Would it be more acceptable if the teacher's child was in the correct age group for the class?

Of those of you who have participated in a music and movement program, have any of you taken a class where this was the case? How was it different from classes where the teacher did not have his or her own children in the class?

Houston Sitter Swap

I just started a new group to help busy parents (like most of us) work together to provide affordable babysitting.  $10-20/hour is highway robbery!  I used to charge less than half of minimum wage per hour per kid, and now teens are charging more than I currently earn in an hour?!?

In generations past, families had a support system for most of their sitting needs -- other family members, neighbors with kids, etc.  It's harder to make connections these days.  Maybe this group will help:

Toddler Magazine recommendations

My 3.5 yr old daughter needs a magazine subscription (or two) to keep her on the potty so she'll be patient enough to go poop.

Five years ago, I'd have NEVER imagined myself saying that!

So, I'm about to look up "Highlights" and "Ranger Rick" and see if they're still around. Anyone have any other suggestions? She doesn't really read, yet, but she's on the cusp.

I need some suggestions...

My 2 year old refuses to go to sleep.  Now I understand some resistance, but we are talking a battle spanning half the night and he often cries himself sick.  I've tried music, nightlights, bottles, pacifiers, stuffed animals, etc.  He doesn't have  a wubbie or lovlie he's attached to...My husband and I are extremely frustrated and no one in the house is getting sleep.

The past year has been a hard one.  Four family members have died in the past 5 months.  Since 2 of them were home hospice care, he was around for some of it.  This last week there was an accident at the daycare that landed him in the emergency room.  The doctor told me to expect setbacks due to all this stress...but he needs sleep if he is gonna heal...

Any ideas?  I need help!

(This is cross posted to some other parenting lists - I need all the help I can get!)

Cute Father's Day Idea for kids

I have to do a Father's Day craft with my Sunday School class and came across this. I thought it was a cute simple thing. If anyone has other ideas, I'd love to hear them!

It is called a "Priceless Gift". It can be used for any holiday, even Christmas, and can be given to aunts, uncles, grandparents, or anyone who needs a smile.

A PRICELESS GIFT

Take an empty box (toothpaste, jewelry, hair color, etc.) and wrap in wrapping paper then tie with a ribbon. Attach the following to the box:

I took an ordinary box
As empty as can be
I filled it with a special gift
And wrapped it carefully.

But please don't ever open it
Just leave the ribbon tied
And hold it tightly near your heart
Because my love for you's inside!

If you prefer to use bows over ribbon, simply adjust the poem to read:

I took an ordinary box
As empty as can be
I filled it with a special gift
And wrapped it carefully.

But please don't ever open it
Just leave the bow applied
And hold it tightly near your heart
Because my love for you's inside!
