Everything Is an Afterthought

I recently sold my first book. In conjunction, I've established another LiveJournal to report on the project's progress, occasionally provide links about, and writings by, its subject, Paul Nelson (long-time champion of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, and famous for his Rolling Stone cover story about Warren Zevon's battle with alcoholism), and share snippets of information or parts of interviews that may or may not be covered further in the final product.

The new journal shares the book's working title, Everything Is an Afterthought: The Life and Writings of Paul Nelson. Just follow the link.

Anybody interested in learning more about this brilliant critic, whose own life proved just as mysterious and fascinating as the artists' about whom he wrote, is welcome to join. As well, tracking the process of how a book goes from sale to publication should prove interesting. I'm rather curious about that part myself...

Leonard Cohen's The Future

Nice community you've got here. I just posted a review of Leonard Cohen's The Future over at my blog Mere Words. Cohen, of course, has quite a history at the Chelsea Hotel (where, according to Cohen, Janis Joplin mistook him for Kris Kristofferson). Your comments are welcome. Enjoy.

I'll be staying a the Hotel Chelsea next week. I leave on Sunday. I'm going to be there for the anniversary of the death of Nancy Spungen. That's important to me. And I have a lot of memories there. I'm wondering if I'll be visiting any ghosts? Or...if any ghosts will be visiting me? My tarot reading last weekend said this visit would be a closure and a beginning. I don't know what that means yet. But some of the past connected with that hotel will probably be the closure. That's sadly sentimental to me. And I know it's time for a beginning of something new. But I like the comfort and safety of the past. Ahhh me.

Hey Kids!

Do any of you happen to know of any truly fabulous (or even just somewhat fabulous, or not-fabulous-at-all-yet-still-informative) books on the history of the Cheslea Hotel? Particularly Bob Dylan-era Chelsea Hotel? I would be eternally grateful...

love and bohemia to all.

my east coast trip - monday (lots of chelsea pictures) MORE TO COME!

i had to wake up far earlier than my already sleep ridden body wanted to. my bus to midway left michigan city at 8am, so mom and i hightailed it out the door by 8am our time. we just barely made it in time. i hopped on the bus and did my best not to sleep through my transfer.

we eventually made it to the lobby and sat for a bit. it was the best place to people watch. a VERY pretty young fellow was painting a picture, people who looked like their dogs were going for walks, and everyone was watching everyone else for a clue as to what they were about. it seemed everyone had a purpose, something to add to the aura of the hotel. is it something they gleaned from her walls, or is it something the hotel absorbs from the artists?

someone was shooting a film while we were in the lobby. i guess that means we're immortalized on celluloid? again, i should've asked what was going on... who knows, maybe i'll be in the theatre and see jesse and myself on the big screen? watch for us in that richard gere flick...

with heavy eyelids, we made it back to the hotel room and fell straight into bed. i didn't even have time to fret about the mealie mealie bugs. i even slept too hard to remember my dreams.
