Threads for Blue Voters: Let Your Emotions Out, And Be There For Each Other
Please keep in mind that I am living in a different time zone and can't keep an eye on the comments during all times. I trust you to be kind to each other, and to know the difference between airing your mental anguish versus calls for self-harm or violence. (Obviously I do not want the latter in this space.) The gist of this is, I want you to have a virtual living room where you can cry and grieve as much as you can rally or help each other carry on.
Scream into the Void: For anger, dread, ranting, the "how is this possible" despair. You're not alone. Let it all out.
If you want to vent but no interactions with others, use the "I need to scream in private" link listed at the bottom.
Carry the Torch: For encouragement, resistance, and resilience. Can range from the small things you can do to keep yourself sane, to helping out in your local community, up to activist and political resources. Also suitable to shine a light on the good things that have happened/are happening, regardless of the larger battle.
Please use a helpful/descriptive subject line.
I need hugs and kittens: For the cute, the compassionate, and the fluffy. Hug each other, and make each other smile. Make a request for emotional support, if you need it.
Thread can be image-heavy. Please use a helpful/descriptive subject line.
I need distractions: Want to talk about anything NOT politics? Know some free-to-play games that you can sink into, or a great website to get lost in? Want to squee about your latest fandom obsession? Post it here.
Please use a helpful/descriptive subject line.
I need to scream in private: Maybe you don't want interaction. Maybe you don't want to air your feelings publicly for fear of falling apart. Maybe you just need someone to listen.
All comments to that post will stay screened, only I can see them, and you will not receive a reply from me unless you specifically ask for one (e.g. "I could really use a hug").

Scream into the Void
If you want to vent but no interactions with others, use the "I need to scream in private" post instead.
Re: Scream into the Void
At some point today I'll start crying and god knows when I'll stop.

HOW DID WE SCREW THIS UP

Re: Scream into the Void
But now. People do want it. They know what he is, they've heard him spew hate and selfishness and crass ignorance and a majority of them voted for it.

adorable science is a wonderful comfort.
Plush Tax.
Top row, left to right: Habeas Corpus AKA Frau Hastrup, Amra, and Totoro. Bottom row, left to right: Miso, Jeff-kun, and Snoopy.
(Image description: lying on a black blanket against a lilac butterfly-print pillowcase are a very worn pink pig puppet, a small tawny plush lion puppet, a figure of Totoro carrying a sack, a saucer-eyed gray plush loaf-shaped mouse, a tiny tan teddy bear with a red bow tie, and a tiny plush (unspecialized) Snoopy.)

Habeas Corpus AKA Frau Hastrup
... or did you mean... Habeas porkus? *ba-dumm tsshh*
(I'll see myself out)
Re: Plush Tax.
You’re actually not wrong! Habeas Corpus is the name of a pet pig belonging to Monk Mayfair, one of Doc Savage’s assistants. (Monk named the pig as a dig at his bickersome lawyer buddy “Ham” Brooks—-long story.) Frau Dagmar Hastrup is a pale pink Danish heirloom rose cultivar.
“Amra”, allegedly meaning “lion” in some African language, was the nickname given to Conan the Barbarian by the black pirates he sailed with; a friend of mine, now long dead, gave him to me as a mascot for science fiction and fantasy conventions, and I saw fit to name him accordingly.
Miso, purchased in March of 2020 specifically as a quarantine buddy, is officially named “Miko” by the Ty Beanie Babies company, but I preferred to personalize the name; Japanese food and rodents are a couple of my special interests.
Jeff-kun was given me by another friend at a moment when I needed a morale boost; he’s named after a teddy bear borne as a magical talisman by Sae Sawanoguchi in Mahou Tsukai Tai!
Totoro and Snoopy are, of course, globally beloved animated characters.
Remember Steve from Blue’s Clues? He remembers you.

Kingdom of Knuffel has little chibis you can raise, called Knuffel (the Dutch word for both, a hug, and a huggable plushie). You can give users hugs on the forums, and the art and items for avatar dressup are gorgeous.
The Most Mysterious Song On The Internet has been identified!
Patient, diligent, and hyperfixated crowdsourced research has at last cracked the case: it’s “Subways of Your Mind”(1983), by German New Wave band FEX! Turns out that at least three of the band members (vocalist/lead guitarist Ture Rückwardt, keyboardist Michael Hädrich, and bassist Norbert Ziermann; drummer Hans Sievers has not responded) are all still alive and had had no inkling of their role in an Internet mystery; two days ago, Hädrich provided a cleaned-up version…along with the other two songs on the original EP, and Rückwardt, Ziermann, and Hädrich convened on November 7th for an acoustic reunion:

I would always have dithered what people would want or need most, but - of course - now that you did it, I see that they might all want different things and providing spaces for them all is genius.
